Twin Pines Campground & Canoe Livery accommodates pets at both electric and rural campsites with friendly owners attentive to camper needs. Swain's Lake, located in Concord, allows pets in its campground where sites are somewhat close together but provide easy access to fishing and playgrounds. Both campgrounds feature clean bathroom facilities with Twin Pines offering newly renovated showers. Rockeys Campground, situated on a chain of five lakes, maintains pet-friendly policies throughout its well-maintained grounds with full hookup sites. Most campgrounds in the area maintain standard leash requirements while offering trash disposal for pet waste. The bathhouse at Swain's Lake provides individual showers with locking doors for complete privacy.

Hiking with dogs is popular at nearby recreation areas including Waterloo Recreation Area, which permits leashed pets on designated trails year-round. Many campgrounds provide direct lake access where pets can enjoy water activities, though Twin Pines campers should note the river water remains cold regardless of season. Gateway Park Campground offers clean sites with ample space, shade trees, and grassy areas ideal for exercising pets. The campground landscape features paved sites that accommodate RVs with pets, while providing picnic tables and fire pits. Local seasonal weather considerations include planning for summer heat when camping with pets, as shaded sites become premium options. The nearby farm with goats adjacent to Moscow Maples RV Park provides interesting animal watching opportunities for both campers and their pets.

      Angola/Hogback Lake KOA Holiday

      Nice campground

I stayed at this place when it was B&B and it is now a KOA. Several new sites were added and the park appears to be much cleaner. The restrooms are nice and the camp personnel are friendly. There is a dog park for walking the dog but with so much driveway I just walk the dog around the park. They have several dog bag stations around the park to make clean up easy. There are 3 playgrounds and boat area on the lake. I believe you can rent boats to fish even though I never have. I will definitely stay here again.

      Holiday RV Campground

      Large RV Park

Nice Park Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot(22u, 20d, 38ms and AT&T cell(27d, 20u, 27ms). Playgrounds everywhere for the kids. Giant dog park and ponds. Pool was closed. Just needs more grass. Our spot was really patchy and resulted in a lot of mud. Great campground with polite and helpful staff. Don’t pass this one up.

      Harrison Lake State Park Campground

      Quiet place to get away

We have been here a few times. Really enjoy the secluded sites and the lake. It’s a small campground but it’s clean and quiet. Most sites don’t have water hookups but they do have electric. There isn’t much to do outside of the campground but there is a nice lake with canoe and kayak rentals. Very pet friendly and even has a dog beach.

      Cold Brook County Park

      Nice little county park!

29 campsites pretty close together with old growth trees interspersed around the campground. Fishing pier and boating, playground area, and beach. No longer has primitive camping. Some hiking trails...short. is next to a busy road, so traffic all night. Staff was great! Showers and bathrooms cleaned multiple times a day. Pet friendly. Would stay here again!

    Guide to Concord

Campgrounds surrounding Concord, Michigan offer diverse options for visitors seeking pet-friendly accommodations within the region's rolling hills and diverse waterways. The area sits at approximately 1,000 feet above sea level and features several connected lake chains, creating opportunities for water recreation throughout the camping season. Summer temperatures typically range from 75-85°F during the day, dropping to the 50s at night.

    What to do

Hiking and trail exploration: Waterloo Recreation Area maintains extensive trail systems ideal for dog walking beyond the campground. "The vista walkway was across from us, it led right to the beach concessions. The beach walkway is handicap accessible. The fishing pier is new, has two benches and tables for your stuff," notes Shelly.

Water activities: The chain of lakes near Rockeys Campground provides excellent fishing opportunities. "Rockey's is on a chain of 5 lakes and has some of the best fishing! Rob and Vicki do so much for the kid campers too!" reports Keely B., highlighting options beyond basic camping.

Mountain biking: Fort Custer Recreation Area features dedicated mountain bike trails separate from hiking paths. "There are plenty of spots to rest and enjoy the time. We passed other hikers and bikers and even some people trying their luck at fishing. There are quite a few mountain bike trails on the other side of the recreation area," explains Art S.

    What campers like

Privacy between sites: Many campers appreciate the natural separation at some Concord-area pet-friendly campgrounds. "This is a smaller campground, but very woodsy (just how I like it)!" notes Kyla T. about Twin Pines Campground & Canoe Livery, mentioning they also have "kayak/canoeing, a playground area for the kids, and good site sizes."

Clean facilities: Bathrooms and shower buildings get consistently positive reviews across dog-friendly campgrounds near Concord. "We've stayed at both sites listed. 161 you do have neighbors pretty close, but we just stayed at 51 and it is extremely secluded! We had an amazing time tent camping it was so quiet!" reports Hannah about Fort Custer Recreation Area.

Lake access: Water recreation features prominently in camper satisfaction. "The park at Swain's Lake is really nice. There is lake access to fish, playgrounds for the kids, and a nice pavilion," notes Suzy E., reflecting priorities for families camping with pets.

    What you should know

Site spacing varies significantly: Proximity to neighbors differs widely across campgrounds. "The sites are all paved with plenty of space and with grass and shade. The owners are friendly and helpful," explains Joey H. about Gateway Park Campground, contrasting with tighter sites elsewhere.

Water temperatures: River water at canoe-friendly campgrounds remains colder than expected. "We went for a 2 night get away in August 8th of 2020. And we wound up staying a week... And if you go in the Kalamazoo River which is a little chilly fyi no matter what time of year. Its your own fault," advises Helen C.

Leash enforcement: Rules exist but compliance varies. "The 6-foot leash rules are very clearly stated. There are many campers whose dogs remain the exception and don't abide by the rules. My leashed dog has been threatened by vicious larger unleashed dogs as I walk my dog more than once this month," warns Gary G.

    Tips for camping with families

Look for kid-specific amenities: Moscow Maples RV Park offers features beyond pet accommodation. "There was a pool and a playground but we didn't utilize either. There was a farm with goats next door and I loved watching the animals," notes Brenda L., highlighting entertainment options.

Consider site location carefully: Distance from facilities matters with children. "It was a larger campground, but very woodsy. They have kayak/canoeing, a playground area for the kids, and good site sizes," reports Kyla T., emphasizing the balance of privacy and access.

Check playground conditions: Equipment varies in quality and maintenance. "Playground is outdated and overgrown with weeds," notes Lisa D. about one facility, indicating families should verify recreational options before booking.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Lighthouse Village RV Resort offers different site options with varying benefits. "My only 'con' is that full hookups are scarce and don't have the perfect angle and view of the W/E sites. If you want the best sites, forego the 'full hookup', pay less for the best and closest view of Lake Huron," advises Lisa D.

Dump station timing: Plan accordingly at campgrounds with limited sanitation facilities. "Sites have electrical service only. Must use the dump station," notes VB S. about Fort Custer Recreation Area, warning about potential wait times.

Site surface types: Camping pad materials affect setup and comfort. "We stayed one night in a non-electrical spot. The park is beautifully maintained. The bathroom and shower facilities were clean and updated," shares Mary H., emphasizing the quality of facilities despite basic sites.
