      Farr Park RV Camground

      Close to Downtown

County equestrian and RV park close to downtown. Stayed here recently while attending an LSU football game. They have a shuttle that provides round trips to the stadium. Nothing fancy about Farr Park, just convenient if you love horses and football.

      Farr Park RV Camground

      Great for horse people

Not bad. It's connected to an equestrian center. If horses are your thing it's perfect. 2 miles from LSU, 3 miles from Baton Rouge, biking trails along Mississippi River levee. Water and electric, dump station, and a bathhouse. The bad... not many trees or wildlife other than horses. The bathhouse could use some work.

      Farr Park RV Camground

One of the better RV parks in BR Area

One of the better RV parks in the BR area (there's not many close to town).  Has electric and water hookups, but no sewer hookup.  The Mississippi River is nearby. There is a paved bike path on top of the river levee that you can ride all the way to downtown Baton Rouge.  It is only 3 miles from LSU campus.  Some people stay here to tailgate for LSU football games.

Farr Park is part of the Baton Rouge Parks and Recreation system.  It is also an equestrian (horse) center.  There are stables and riding arenas near the campground.

There is a dump station available.  The dump station connection for your sewer hose is at a 45 degree angle and a bit above ground level.  This creates sags in your hose.  Also, there is no way to secure or screw in your connection to the sump station.  The station does have a concrete pad and non-potable water.  You can use the dump station for free if you are a camper.  Non-campers can pay a $10 fee to dump.

      Close to LSU

I would suggest BREC Farr Equestrian RV Park if you are interested in being close Baton Rouge or LSU. A typical fairgrounds type camping area. Sites have electric and water. Remote dump site available. Bike path trailhead is there, with extensive pathways on the levee.

      Farr Park RV Camground

      Spacious with Horse Views

This campground is so romantic with coral sunsets and country vibes. Spots are spacious and not crowded so you can spread out. Great paths for walking. Its hot but the bugs are not overwhelming. Close to the college and downtown. Perfect views of the horses I could watch them all day. 30/50 amp electric, water, pull through sites. No sewage but there is a dump station to empty on way out.  Bathrooms have restrooms and showers available. 8/10.

      Farr Park RV Camground

      Don’t come here

We called asking for late check in and they said no problem, just pay in the morning at the office. We spend 2 nights here with no one in the office, checking both the equestrian building, the stables and the office multiple times. Left several phone calls and emails with no answer. Got a short text from someone saying there’s an employee in the equestrian building. The young girl who finally helped us was rude and short. Zero communication or organization whatsoever around the campground. They clearly don’t care about their customers. Nice for a cheap place to stay but don’t expect to be helped at all. Couldn’t get the WiFi password.

      Land-O-Pines Family Campground

      Pleasant campground

Land-O-Pines is a nice private RV park near Folsom and Covington. We stayed two nights because my daughter was in a horse competition at a nearby horse farm. The sites are mostly shady. The streets and sites are gravel and can get a little muddy in spots after a rain. The park was clean and quiet, and the staff was friendly. About half the sites are for permanent users.

Stayed in pull-through campsite C69 which was shady and level. It was a gravel site. There was enough parking for my 34 ft TT and truck. Neighbors are nearby by not on top of you. The site included: picnic table on gravel, no fire ring. Utilities: 20/50A electric near the middle. The 20A receptacle looked like it had some minor burn marks. Water next to power pole, good pressure. Sewer near power pole with 4 non screw-on fitting.

AT&T had 2 bars of LTE and Verizon full bars of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 30.8 Mbps down, 3.6 Mbps up. Verizon Speedtest: 4.5 Mbps down, 11.8 Mbps up. WiFi available, but did not use. Required a login.

Would stay here again. We camped at Land-O-Pines Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

    Guide to Ponchatoula

Equestrian camping opportunities near Ponchatoula, Louisiana feature varying terrain across several state parks and private facilities. The region's subtropical climate creates year-round riding conditions with moderate winter temperatures and humid summers. Natural water features including rivers, lakes, and ponds enhance the camping experience while presenting seasonal considerations for riders planning overnight trips.

    What to do

Trail riding access: At Bogue Chitto State Park Campground, extensive horse trails provide diverse riding opportunities. "Great bike riding, good family park. River tubing available," notes Connie M., highlighting additional recreation options beyond equestrian activities.

Wildlife viewing: Observe local fauna while maintaining appropriate distance. "This place is crawling with gators in the lower portion on the lakes. Hey this is south Louisiana," warns Larry, emphasizing the need for wildlife awareness at Bogue Chitto State Park Campground.

Water recreation: Combining horse camping with water activities creates multi-activity options. "The river offers a nice swimming hole during the summer. WiFi worked good enough. Verizon cell service worked well in most areas of the park," explains Tiffany M., detailing connectivity alongside natural recreation at Bogue Chitto.

Seasonal celebrations: Land-O-Pines Family Campground offers special event weekends. "Great site..we went for Halloween weekend and there were alot of activities and trick or treating for the kids..great campsite great memories," shares David D., describing seasonal programming.

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Well-maintained sites rank high among visitor preferences. "Very clean, well kept state park. Hiking trails, equestrian trails, tubing, camping... they've got it all. Campsites are neat, well maintained," reports James L. of Bogue Chitto State Park Campground.

Animal encounters: Sweetwater Campground RV Ranch offers diverse animal interactions beyond horses. "Peaceful setting with a pool! Wagon ride for kids, pond, ducks, mule was cute!" shares Charmon K., highlighting family-friendly animal attractions.

Budget considerations: Evaluate cost against amenities when selecting sites. "I would give it a better review except it's 50$ a night for a tent. We've averaged 20-30 bucks for the same," explains Robert H. regarding Land-O-Pines Family Campground.

    What you should know

Wildlife safety: Exercise caution in waterfront areas. "Literally, don't feed the gators. There were signs everywhere. Apparently many people don't heed the signs. When my hubby rustled a bag, several alligators swam right up to our site!" warns Cat R. at Bogue Chitto State Park.

Site selection strategies: Choose locations based on your specific needs and weather conditions. "We were in the lower area campsites, which were prone to flash flooding. We actually left a day early due to prediction of rain," shares Cat R., providing practical flood risk information.

Seasonal variations: Campgrounds operate year-round with varying conditions. "We saw plenty of wildlife such as turkey, deer, rabbits, turtles, alligators and birds. Plenty of trails for hiking and biking," reports Tiffany M., describing the natural environment at Farr Park RV Camground.

Area navigation: Some equestrian facilities have access challenges. "Quiet, great host, just not real happy with the tree limbs hanging low everywhere," notes Charmon K. about Sweetwater Campground RV Ranch, highlighting potential trailer navigation issues.

    Tips for camping with families

Water activities: Incorporate swimming into equestrian camping trips. "The creek offers a great swimming spot for children. The older waterslide provides additional entertainment despite the facility's age," describes Nicole R. about Land-O-Pines Family Campground.

Recreation diversity: New Orleans RV Resort & Marina offers family amenities with city access. "Great RV resort and Marina. Right on the canal waterway and only 10 minutes in good traffic to the French Quarter, 20 to the Garden District and zoo," explains Jeff M.

Safety considerations: Monitor children closely near water features. "Stayed in waterfront campsite#21, but view was partially blocked by houseboats. Site was pretty level," notes David B. about New Orleans RV Resort & Marina.

    Tips from RVers

Site specifications: Horse-friendly campgrounds provide varied hookup options. "Site 126 relaxing stream front site nice wooden patio firepit and bbq. Full hookup in uperlanls just water and electric in bottomland," details Reagan S. about Bogue Chitto State Park.
