What to do
Water activities: Tuttle Creek Cove offers multiple water recreation options within 15-20 minutes of Westmoreland. "Last 4th of July my family and friends went tent camping here. There is a nice beach area to swim, we rented kayaks and canoes for a leisurely paddle around the lake," notes David H. from Tuttle Creek Cove.
Hiking trails: The Milford State Park area contains several hiking paths suitable for day hikes. Michelle S. reports, "This was a beautiful clean campground with a nice lake. Only complaint is that several of the restrooms were still closed due to a flood in 2019. We were able to find a lovely primitive camp site for hammock camping!!!" at Cedar Point — Milford State Park.
Wildlife observation: Fall and spring migrations bring various bird species to the region. "This park has wildlife to view like the large flock of turkey vultures who live in the dead trees of cedar point," writes Shannon G. about Cedar Point campground.
What campers like
Scenic lake views: Campers frequently mention the quality of water views as a standout feature. "Covered pavilion with a view of the lake. We happened on it thru Dyrt on our way out to Yellowstone and it fit our needs exactly. Close to I-70, but you felt away from everything," notes BLURDVSN about Sunset Ridge — Milford State Park.
Peaceful atmosphere: Despite proximity to larger towns, many sites provide quiet settings. "Such a beautiful campground just a short drive (15 min) off the 70. Stopped for one night driving across the country wished we had more time. Clean, convenient, and beautiful views," says Elizabeth B. about Tuttle Creek Cove.
Well-maintained facilities: Multiple reviewers note the cleanliness of camping areas. "The facilities were clean, showers and bathrooms were well maintained. Folks were friendly," writes Wally C. about his stay at COE Milford Lake Curtis Creek Park.
What you should know
Seasonal closures: Most non-luxury glamping sites near Westmoreland operate from mid-April through October. Curtis Creek Milford Lake Park specifies an operating season of "April 15 to September 30."
Blue-green algae concerns: Lake swimming may be restricted during summer months. "Only downside is the blue-green algae made it unsafe to swim but that is not a fault of the campground," notes Kaylyn B. about Curtis Creek campground.
Reservation system: Many sites require online booking. "The check in process was severely frustrating. They only do online. So when we got there with little sun left it took 30 minutes to actually reserve the spot," reports Carter W. about Farnum Creek.
