Sunset Ridge — Milford State Park
Clean with beautiful view of the lake.
Has equestrian amenities, but sites are not limited to horse enthusiasts. Any campers welcome.
Rockin' K Horse Campground at Kanopolis State Park provides multiple spots specifically for campers with horses. The campground includes numerous horse pens along with dispersed camping areas for both tent and RV accommodations. Campers report the shower facilities are clean with hot water and easily accessible by a short walk from the campsites. Well-spaced and organized sites offer water and electric hookups at some locations, while others provide electric only. The campground connects directly to horse riding trails, making it convenient for riders to access routes without trailering their horses. Sites are typically uncrowded during weekdays, with more visitors on holiday weekends.
Kanopolis State Park maintains a system for checking in after hours without a reservation, though spots fill quickly during peak seasons. Horse owners need to bring their own feed and water containers, as natural water sources along trails can be seasonal. The equestrian trails wind through varied terrain with limestone formations, offering both short loops and longer routes for day rides. Camping areas accommodate various sizes of horse trailers with ample parking space. While primitive campgrounds like Mulberry are well-maintained and largely unoccupied due to lack of hookups, they provide a quieter alternative for tent campers with horses. Water access points for horses are available, though campers should verify seasonal availability before arrival. Proper tick prevention is advisable when using the trails during warmer months.

"The fire pit in our spot was up next to the shoreline where we didn’t want it so we built one with a hole and rocks. It did get a bit windy but we put the Jeep behind us so that blocked some wind."

"This was a beautiful clean campground with a nice lake. Only complaint is that several of the restrooms were still closed due to a flood in 2019."
"There is also a swim beach and a hiking trail. It’s a very pretty area and this park has wildlife to view like the large flock of turkey vultures who live in the dead trees of cedar point."

I camped there in early October and this campground appeared to have multiple spots for campers with horses. There were numerous horse pens along with some dispersed camping area. There looked to be a trail for horse riding nearby. It was a short walk to the showers, which were nice and warm. There was only one other camper at the campground when we went.
Great activities to do in lake and a fun splash pad for the kids. Lots of trails and equestrian trails to hike. Fishing was fun and I believe the lake is regularly stocked. Will stay here again.
Really nice campground. Big RV spots with great views. The beach area was small but nice. There is a medium sized playground near the swimming area. There are horse pens located at the Eagle Ridge site. Eagle Ridge has full hook-ups. The only negative is that there were very few bathrooms and showers.
We stayed at Eagle Point as we don not have horses but this campground had the shower house that we used which was very clean and the water was actually hot! Very well maintained!
Nice clean campgrounds. We stayed lakeside at one of the primitive sites. Nice lake view, and quite. It was late July so pretty buggy outside the tent. Reservations were easy and the scenic drives around the lake are beautiful. Junction City is 10 minutes away for all your needs.

The cabins to have large shelters with tables and grill. There are 5 cabins all with horse breed names and there is one that is ADA.
We went for the weekend, mostly to do some hiking. Then realized we had found one of the nest places in Kansas! We got a perfect camp spot all to ourselves. It was not necessarily private or in the woods. But we were right up against the lake. There was sand like a beach the water was alright. I mean it's a lake. We loved the hiking through limestone. We found couple caves and climbed some rock. Would be good for mntn biking
