    Union Grove State Park

    Loved it!

Loved this campground! We just stayed for one night, but wish it had been two. Small and quiet. A few trails to hike and a horse camp that I didn’t have time to explore. Nice lending library as well. Bathroom/shower combos are nice (1 is ADA). Not far off the interstate. Some sites are off with level & weird (ie stairs/door open on an incline and away from the table), and our picnic table was sloped. So pick your site carefully. 19E was ok - table not level and high stairs required from TT but good for Starlink connection and close water spigot (elec only at these sites)

    Nice Park/Clean Bathrooms

This is a quiet and nice park. Lots of pull through lots. I am missing a swimming pool but they do have a beach by a pond if that interests you. Bathrooms are cleaned daily but at times are quite nasty. Not their fault people are just nasty.

Waterloo - Lost Island Waterpark KOA

    Great place to stay

We stayed at started at the Lost Island water park KOA for just one night while passing through the area. We were in our class C while slowly making our way across the country. We had no problems getting a spot here. Sites are gravel for the RV, reasonably level, and very well maintained. Most sites are pull through. Hookups are in very good condition. Each site had a grassy area with a picnic table. Staff was very friendly and helpful. There was a playground, beach and fenced dog area. Cost was very good for the amenities provided.

The campground had a store, gas station and propane available.

We had 4 bar LTE with Verizon. Our hotspot was usable and performed very well. We enjoyed our brief stay at this campground. We will stay again when traveling this way.

    Wilder City Park

    Beautiful city park

Wilder Park is a beautiful city park. Very much a gem, quiet and peaceful . 50 + sites with about half of them full hook up. Costs for a full hook up in 2022 was under $25 a night. The park has two fishing areas, a dog park, pickle ball, volleyball mini golf, basketball and two playgrounds. A beautiful walking and bike path connects the parks to the neighboring cities. A free dump is also available. We highly recommend this park. 1

    Pine Lake State Park

    Great view, trail and fishing

Site 70 is not level, the driveway was just long enough for us and the view was great! The sites are spacious enough; cell signal was the same. The dumpsters we full when we got there on Sunday the same on Tuesday. Recycling was not offered! The bathrooms are very nice-a room with 3 stalls and 4 individual showers. The trail is superb, we rode our bikes both days we were there. It’s an easy (ebike) ride to Eldora.

    Briggs Woods Park

Decent County Park, and the price is right!

This is a county park that is was well wooded and quite busy on a June Friday night.  Lots of local folks.  Stayed at the front-end of the part where apparently the sites are a little closer together than the rear sites.  Was passing through on a cross country trip so only stayed on one night.  Site with full hook-ups was only $30.  Partial or no hook-up even less.  You can reserve a spot by going online, though they do keep some as FCFS.

A few negatives about the park is that, with the local flavor, there were a lot of extended families there, and they all seemed to bring there dogs.  Lots of barking going on.  Our space was out of level but manageable, and the bath house and outhouse were on the rustic side.  Decent enough place when passing through, and a great price!

    Beautiful campground

We stayed Sun-Wed in May. Closest other campers were about a football field away. Very quiet park, we stayed in the back. We had water/power but no sewer hookup. Only downside to this park is there are no garbage cans. Weird?

    Little Wall Lake County Park

Beautiful county park in rural Iowa near Story City

This little gem is a great place to stay.  Small lake.  Some sites are reserveable online and some are first come first serve.  We had water and electric on site.  Showers were not open yet in April.  The frogs in the nearby swamp were fun to hear.   Lots of birds too.  This looks like it is a popular park for local people in the summer.  There are 3 cabins also.

    Enjoyable

For $12/night on a 30AMP hookup, I really can't complain. This is my first of many stops in the new RV, needed a place to camp out before getting it serviced the next day. Enjoyable scenery, especially at sunset

    L. Brandt's Crazy Acres Campground & Cabin Rental

    Awesome Campground

    L. Brandt’s Crazy Acres Campground is a quiet and peaceful campground. The kids had fun playing mini golf, swimming at the beach and playing at the playgrounds. The people that run the campground are so nice. The weekend we camped there was their Halloween trick or treating and all the campers were very nice. It was a very relaxing weekend!

    Union Grove State Park

Campsite at a beautiful little Iowa lake

Union Grove is known for having good lake fishing. The lake is also a great place for kayaking or canoeing.

The campground has mostly RV sites, but there are a handful of smaller tent sites at the back, which are my favorite. The campground is quiet.

    Amenities:

    Showers and toilets

    Dump station

    Water

    2 cabins

    Things to do nearby:

    Enjoy the lake

    Matchstick Marvels in nearby Gladbrook

    Tower Rock

Modern cabins and a beautiful park

The two cabins are fairly new and have all of the amenities. My mother-in-law stayed here while visiting recently and we enjoyed spending time at her cabin.

While camping is no longer allowed in Tower Rock park, you can still enjoy a walk down to the river or bicycling on the paved bicycle trail. Tube rentals are available nearby for the Iowa River, and a local outfitter will rent a boat for the day to fish Pine Lake or the small lake northwest of Steamboat Rock.

Pine lake is not that far away either and offers many fun activities.

    Pine Lake State Park

Pine Lake is an awesome state park

This campground is near home so I know it well.

The campground itself is nice, with some decent sized campsites, many having a great view of upper Pine Lake. There are flush toilets and showers. Campsites have electric hookups. It can get busy during peak season!

Some of the campsites are near the lake, some are near the road. Noise is usually not a problem as the road has a 35mph speed limit by the campground.

Things to do: (so much to list!)

    • Paddle on upper or lower Pine Lake
    • Fishing, shore or boat (lake, stream, or river)
    • Bicycle trails
    • Hiking trails (all around lower Pine Lake)
    • Beach swimming (lower only)
    • Float or paddle nearby Iowa River (tube and boat rentals nearby)
    • Eat, replenish supplies in nearby Eldora

    Our favorite

This is our favorite place to camp. Never overcrowded, they have activities put in by Friends of Pilot Knob such as movie nights. Lots to do like hiking, biking, and fishing. Very clean bathhouse and bathrooms, park. Family friendly and quiet place to camp.

Great Campground for Kids, Lots of Amenities

Decent sites with full hook ups. Little shade with small trees next to about each site. Gas, propane, laundry room, beach area, small boat rentals, good sized convenience store with ice, beer, snacks, milkshake machine, etc. Enough to do for a day or two without going to the water park. Overall felt pretty exposed but the amenities made up for it.

    Pine Lake State Park

    Gem of a campground

We loved this campground (stayed here many times in the past few years) and they've recently updated the bathroom/shower houses to be shared bathroom spaces with individual shower 'closets' on the opposite side of the building.  Excellent upgrade!

Fishing is good here, as are the hiking trails.  Can get busy on the weekends but if you camp mid-week you may be the only folks around.  Very peaceful.

    Briggs Woods Park

    Nice campground, lots of options

Brigs Woods is close to Webster City, IA.  There are several campsites, cabins, golf course, access to canoeing or kayaking on the Boone River, along with hiking trails, swimming and fishing.  This is one of the many county parks spread across Iowa.  They have reasonable rates and many do not take reservations.  One area is good for a group of campers as the sites are in a circle.  A walking bridge links the back loop to the other loop that has the bathhouse making it a shorter walk.

There are sites with full hookups, H2O and Elec, or Elec only.  Here is the website: https://www.mycountyparks.com/County/Hamilton/Park/Briggs-Woods-Park-and-Golf-Course.aspx

The wonderful thing about the park is the magnificent trees.
