Peaceful and beautiful

We stayed as a larger group on a non-electric site. The sites were sort of close together but the trees still helped provide a sense of privacy. There were clean bathrooms with running water a short walk away, didn’t attempt to use the showers. We could easily walk to the trails and we went fishing…

No signal? No problem!!!

I love coming to the Shawnee forest to camp and hike. We have absolutely no signal there with MetroPCS and it is very refreshing. We took three separate cars and they have a two car per site rule, but they have a lot at the front to park extra cars in so it was no problem. The springs have fun and…

Unimpressive and crowded

The campsite is considered to be primitive, which is fine, but it is right along the trail without any cover. All the campsites are one on top of the other without any cover in between or from the trail. They were all taken and incredibly packed during the Memorial Day weekend and honestly seemed…

Giant City State Park

We came down for a spontaneous camping trip to explore SNF and found Giant City to be a great place to stay. We stayed in the primitive camp site, while there were others there, everyone was dispersed far enough that it felt private. Camp grounds were clean, quiet, and the camp host and park ranger…

Great stay

Sites and bathrooms super well maintained. Sites were big and tucked away into pretty nooks. Close to some awesome hikes, Jackson falls was a fav. Fsho will return

zero maintenance run down smelly

Overwhelming smell of dead fish that are laying aplenty on the shores of Ohio Rv. as there is no staff to clean up. Add to this general malaise of zero maintenance mowing or repairing decrepid sites and you get the picture. Did have 30 amp to drive my AC that covered the sound of the work crew…

Nice campground

The biggest thing about this campground is first come first serve..and one loop is closed for renovations (as of 2021 camping season, May). Most you can spend here is 14 days, which lots of locals do. Very quiet family friendly with large mostly level spots. Our go to when visiting the local…

Spring camping

Easy check in, camped in the tent sight. Unfortunately there was a lot of glitter pieces, plastic kid’s pieces and my self along picked up 34 cigarette butts. Besides the the people that don’t care about using a garbage can. Everything else was wonderful. Trail around lake just beautiful, bathroom…

Good, wooded sites

We stayed 2 nights at site 6 in May. It was a roomy, wooded site with water and electric for $22/night. Unfortunately, there was SO MUCH poison ivy that we couldn't play in the woods. But we enjoyed our stay on the beautiful lake! Decent bathrooms and playground but not great. The shower never did…

So close to hiking but close to each other in the sites

This campground is a small loop with sites on both sides. You pass a public picnic area on the way in. This was packed when we went. The sites were a bit too close to each other for us. Our dog needs more vegetation to mask other camper distractions. The campground is beautiful though. The main…

Backpacking camping along Indian Point Trail

Many different experiences available so decide what you are looking for. The parking lot is marked as backpacking parking. We headed down Indian Point Trail and within 50 yards or so we came upon the first site. An offshoot trail headed off to the right and ended at a nice campsite with a set fire…

Lovely gem in Southern IL

We spent part of spring break there this year. Sites are beautifully wooded with many excellent lake views, even with full hookups. Easy access to great bike trails.

Nice location and sites, rough road, first come first served

This small campground is nice once you get there!  Just know it is remote and the road to get there is rough, so, if you are not comfortable with that, I would go elsewhere.  There are no hookups, although water is available.  Also there are pit toilets which are not the worst I have seen!  No cell…

Great backcountry backpacking. The huge rock formation area is packed but the backpack loop is amazing. Great views.
