Best RV Parks & Resorts near Liberty, IL

Several RV campgrounds provide full-service options near Liberty, Illinois. Driftwood Campground & RV Park in Quincy offers 51 concrete pad sites with water, sewer, and both 30- and 50-amp electrical hookups from March 15 to November 1. Mark Twain Lake Jellystone Park in Monroe City, Missouri, approximately 30 miles west, features pull-through sites with full hookups for larger motorhomes and operates from March through September. Wakonda State Park campgrounds provide RV sites with concrete pads and hookups near fishing access points. "The sites are very large and our RV site has a cement pad. It makes for an easy setup," noted one camper about Wakonda Lake Campground.

Advance reservations are strongly recommended, especially during summer weekends when parks reach capacity. Most RV sites throughout the region offer water and electrical connections, though sewer hookups vary by location. Big rigs are accommodated at multiple parks including Woodyz Acres RV Park and Canton City River Park, though the latter occasionally experiences seasonal flooding that may affect availability. On-site dump stations are available at Cozy C RV Campground and Driftwood, while others provide full sewer hookups at individual sites. Pet policies generally allow dogs with standard leash requirements. Cell service varies significantly between campgrounds, with reviewers noting stronger connections at locations closer to Quincy and limited coverage at more remote parks.

    Camp Nauvoo

    Great value, nice campground

Camp Nauvoo is a nice, church operated, park only 5 minutes from downtown Nauvoo. We stayed one night on our way to Minnesota. The sites are sunny and all are pull-through.but some have shade. The park streets are gravel with concrete pull-through sites. The park is very quiet. Great value for $32. Full hookups.

Stayed in campsite#10 which has no shade. It was a concrete pull-through with more than enough parking for my TT and truck and grass on either side. The site included: picnic table. Utilities were located in different spots. 20A/30A/50A electric in the middle, water near the rear, and sewer near the front. Site was level. No neighbor on passenger/awning side.

AT&T had 3 bars of LTE and Verizon 1 bar of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 56.8 Mbps down, 9.3 Mbps up. Free WiFi available, but I had trouble connecting.

If you are southbound on Illinois Hwy 96, the left turn off the highway is very sharp and steep. Might be easier to continue about a mile south and use the scenic turnout to turnaround. It is a pull-through turnout. Then, turn off the highway on the right.

Would stay here again. We camped at Camp Nauvoo in a Travel Trailer.

    Carthage City Park

Accessible, shady, and near sights to see

While they were working on adding a bath house with toilets the campground is at the local golf course to use. 30 amp and water only. Gravel pads, mostly level. Shade and quiet in pm. During day you have golfers but not enough to bother you. A pavilion is available for use. Good area close to stores, fuel and off-site dump station.

    Great River Road Campground

    Good enough for an overnight

No frills camping on the edge of the fairgrounds, there are campsites mostly for RV’s (full hook ups- 50 amp and 30 amp, and sites with sewer), and space for tents on the margins (might be why tent “sites” are free). The bathhouse was locked when I passed through, and no one was camping here, but there is an emergency number to call, so I guess if I had wanted to camp here I could have had someone come out and unlock the bathhouse for me. The town is a short walk away with a convenience store and not much else, but still cute. Don’t expect any privacy or shade here as there are no trees.

    Wildcat Springs Park

Wildcat Creek Campground, Hamilton , Illinois

Wildcat is a very nice campground operated by the City of Hamilton, Illinois. Campground has only 17 RV slots of various sizes. We had room to put our 32 foot fifth wheel and room to park our truck alongside. Ours was one of a couple of sites large enough to handle our size.

Their website says the nightly fee is $15 for tents and $25 fir RV. When we arrived we were informed that it had gone up to $20 fir tent and $30 for RV.

Service excludes electricity of 30 and 50 amp. Water is also available at each site. A dump station is on site.

Also on site is a very nice public pool and interesting Disc Golf course.

Very quite and peaceful surroundings. Just a half mile off of the Mississippi River.

We will definitely return here when we get back to the area.

    Frank Russell Campground

    Nice stay

This was a 1 night stay while getting to the east coast. Most impressed by how perfectly level our paved parking pad was. We didn’t have to level the rv or even unhook it from the truck. Very few campers as some sections were closed, peaceful & quiet evening. Shady site with picnic table and fire ring. Restrooms were clean-ish (we are camping, right?), they could use a fresh coat of paint and soap dispensers. Showers were fine. Used their dump station and filled the water tank as we exited the park. Would recommend & would stay there again

Wakonda Lake Campground — Wakonda State Park

    Convenient stop

Looking for an overnight stay on a long road trip. Park is close to highway, fairly empty on a Monday night. Easy pull through site close to lake. Quiet. Bathhouse nothing fancy, could have been cleaner. Easy access to dump station. Staff very friendly.

    Cozy C RV Campground, LLC

Convenient spot for a quick stop

Currently this is an RV only campground due to Covid restrictions, but there is ample space for tent camping when they return to allowing tents. So, RV sites include pull through and back in with water and electric hookups, and a dump station on site. There is a nice bathhouse and super clean laundry with a little lending library. Also on site is a community room(currently closed due to covid restrictions), an outdoor pavilion, and a miniature golf set up. The campground is wedged between the highway and a cow farm, so expect some noise, especially with few trees or landscaping to absorb the sound.

Badger — Mark Twain State Park

    Badger Loop

A group of us stayed on the Badger loop. Each has gravel pads with electric, picnic table, lantern pole and fire ring. Plenty of buffer between sites and quiet. Clean showers, park programs for kids and friendly camp host. We enjoyed driving over to Mark Twain’s birth place and shrine and antiquing in Perry.

    Hickory Haven Campground

    Pretty, wooded campground

Needed an overnight spot on our way north, off season for camping in this area.  Called mid afternoon for availability and spoke with John who promptly told us he would hold a site for us. Large campground that has a few full hookup sites open year around. We were given a site between a couple of traveling workers. Both came out to greet us which was very nice. Site was a bit small but certainly ok for a night's stay. Many larger sites farther back in the closed area. Full hook-ups. Level gravel. Picnic table available. Laundry and restrooms very clean. Playground, pavilion for movies, dog area, frog pond, hiking trails and beautiful woods. A few camping supplies available in the office. This would be a fun getaway for families in the summer months.

Guide to Liberty

The Liberty, Illinois area offers camping options within a 30-mile radius of the small rural community. Located in west-central Illinois near the Mississippi River, this region experiences hot summers with temperatures frequently reaching 90°F and cold winters with lows dropping below freezing. Several lakes dot the landscape around Liberty, with nearby Wakonda State Park featuring six interconnected lakes popular among anglers.

What to do

Fishing access: Multiple lakes at Wakonda State Park provide opportunities for bank fishing or boating. "Each parking site has steps down to the lake for bank fishing. There are also John boats and kayaks for rent," mentions Charlie S., who appreciates the 9hp motor limit that keeps noise levels down.

Hiking trails: Trail systems range from short loops to longer routes. Mary N. shares about Boulder Lake Campground: "Great trails too, ranging from half a mile to 3 miles. Nice lakes, kayaking rentals available, and a swimming beach too."

Mini golf: Some campgrounds offer on-site recreation options. Victoria G. notes about Cozy C RV Campground: "Minature golf and pet area. Nice place for a stop over."

What campers like

Lake views: Proximity to water is a major draw for many campers. Lew H. from Wakonda Lake Campground appreciates "a view of one of 6 small lakes in the park" and notes the "full amenities - ESW" at their site.

Well-maintained facilities: Clean bathrooms and laundry facilities matter to travelers. Art Z. at Driftwood Campground observed: "The showers and restroom were impressively clean. The hosts could not have made me feel more welcome."

Spacious sites: Many campgrounds offer ample room between sites. Kaye R. describes Wakonda: "The concrete slab was large enough for our camper and rug along with the picnic table! A lot of room!"

What you should know

Seasonal flooding concerns: Areas along the Mississippi River may experience high water. Annie C. noted about Canton City River Park: "I tried to camp here, but it was closed temporarily due to high water on the Mississippi River. In fact, part of the the campground road was under water."

Variable cell coverage: Connectivity differs significantly between campgrounds, especially in more remote locations.

Traffic patterns: Some campgrounds experience more vehicle movement than expected. Andrew S. mentions about Canton City River Park: "The only thing we noticed was for a dead end loop campground there is a bunch of traffic. I think about everyone that lives in this tiny town must make a lap around the campground on their way home."

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Beaches provide kid-friendly water activities. "There is a nice swimming beach with a place to shower off the sand," Annie C. reports about Boulder Lake Campground.

Park amenities: Look for campgrounds with recreational facilities. Cathy S. observed at Mark Twain Lake Jellystone Park: "Mini golf was booming. They had nice pavilion areas for gatherings. There was also a large swimming pool."

Site selection for tent campers: Specific loops offer better tent sites. Annie C. advises about Boulder Lake: "The tent part is a loop with sites in the middle (37-50) having the best trees for hammocks and the sites on the outside of the loop having the most level places for pitching a tent."

Tips from RVers

Concrete pads: Many RV parks near Liberty, Illinois offer level concrete sites. Joey S. from Driftwood Campground & RV Park appreciates the "clean facilities, full hookup sites with concrete pads."

Extended seasons: Some RV parks remain open longer than advertised. Gary V. noted about Driftwood: "Very impressed with the park when it was supposed to be closed. They extended their season because the weather was so good."

Winter operations: Services may be limited during cold months. Candace M. at Woodyz Acres RV Park explains: "The date was in late December so we expected some winterizing. So the water was off at the site. It was also off at the bath house."
