A run down KOA. Sites are mostly level. Nice staff. Appears cabins are going through some refurbishing efforts. In the middle of a commercial area. A little sketchy getting off east bound ramp then having to cross three lanes of traffic to make a left hand turn at the first light. Entrance to campground is tight, swing wide.
Has everything you need. Even got a hot shower while tent camping
This was our first trip with our first camper and this place was perfect. Well graveled spaces, easy water and electric hook-up with both 30 and 50 amp. Owners met us at the entrance and guided us in which was much appreciated. They were extremely nice and helped us get set up since we knew nothing and had just picked up the camper that morning. They had a few turkeys and chickens at the site which were our alarm clock. It was a bit muddy but we had just had a bunch of rain but the gravel kept us from having to fight it.
Camping is wonderful here. Lots of watersports and a Marina.
Off season privacy and electric. Nicely wooded too!
I've been coming to this campground since 1968 with my family. It's by far my favorite. Large shower house supposedly replaced over this winter. Marina available for fuel and a few supplies. Firewood available up the road. Campsites are large with plenty of room for camper and vehicles.
Hawn is a one of the best fall campgrounds close to the St. Louis area. There are a number of hiking options around the campground in the park and nearby nature reserve.
It is a smaller campground with a good mix of electric and non-electric sites. The restrooms were clean and they also have some vault toilets in the park for convenience.
The campground has oddly shaped campsites causing a crowded feel. The campground is also loud on the weekends especially if there are races at the nearby Bonne Terre drag strip.
We camped right on the lake with a great view. This site and the site next to it are the best sites in the campground with a pull through layout for a great setup for a lake view from the side of your camper. There was not any shade on the site, so you will be dependent on an awning. Keep in mind that strong winds can sweep across the lake and pick things up if not secured.
