Cabins at Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area offer rustic accommodations with basic amenities including electricity, beds, picnic tables, and access to shared facilities. The property features air-conditioned shower houses, a swimming pool, and a camp store that serves breakfast and basic lunches. Sites at Illini Campground provide views of Carlyle Lake with walking access to the shoreline. A small number of cabins at Cedarbrook RV Park and Campground provide alternative lodging options with bathroom access. According to one reviewer, "This State Park offers playground areas and more. Cabins, campsites with power or no power the choice is yours."

Rustic cabin rentals are available across multiple campgrounds in the region. Many properties remain open year-round, including Eldon Hazlet, while others like Cedarbrook RV Park operate seasonally from April through October. Reservations are essential during summer months and holiday weekends, particularly for Halloween festivities when the campground fills quickly. Most cabins accept pets but policies vary by location. Some locations offer water views with lakefront access, particularly at properties surrounding Carlyle Lake. A visitor noted, "Site 26. We were basically by ourselves being mid-week in November. Great view. Nice camp hosts."

Most furnished cabins require guests to bring their own bedding, pillows, towels, and personal items. Kitchen facilities vary significantly between locations, with some providing only basic outdoor cooking options. The camp store at Eldon Hazlet stocks essential supplies, while the nearby town of Carlyle offers more extensive shopping options including a Walmart within a 5-10 minute drive. Bathroom facilities range from clean, air-conditioned shower houses to more primitive options. Visitors planning extended stays should bring sufficient supplies, especially during peak seasons when local stores may experience shortages.

    Nice clean and convenient

Family owned with a nice little fishing area (no license required catch and release) paddle boats and camp store. A nice pool with a big covered pavilion, clean restrooms and showers with hot water. We had a level pull thru gravel site with a picnic table and small fire ring and didn’t have to unhook for our overnight. Walking/hiking wooded trails 2 cabins available- several seasonal folks. We were there on a Sunday evening and didn’t really see anyone. Little bit of road noise but so convenient! Thanks Barb!

    Great experience!

Big things happening at Country Bend Campgrounds in Montrgromy Co, IL. It has a pool, swing sets, playground, cabins, ponds with stocked fish, beautiful walking trails, camping, welcome center, baseball field, volleyball, games, horseshoes, paddle boats, miniature golf, and so much more. This family run business is under new management and is welcoming new seasonal campers and day campers with competitive pricing. Come check out this amazing campground and all it has to offer! Our rough collies will be joining us at this dog friendly campground! There is always something to do here and the owners strive to make it a family place by providing many activities on the weekends. The owners have done an amazing job on this campground and have made it one of the best campgrounds around to create that lasting experience with our children before they grow up!!!

    Shady Rest campground

Really great campground. Good mix of tents and RVs. Bath house was very well kept and clean. Showers ran cold at first but after a few mins it gets warmer! There were plenty of pit toliets through out the campground and trash cans. My tent site was clean, good flat spot for tent, picnic table and fire pit with attached grill.

The Concession building in the park is closing. No boat rentals, selling everything he has on the shelf.

Caught a few bass and and good amount of hiking. Large trail around the whole lake, smaller trails lead to sites around the different campgrounds.

    Beaver Dam State Park Campground

    Nice campsites

All sites are shaded and mostly level with pull-thru or back-in parking. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring with a grate over it. Each site has electric, however the water spigots are scattered about. The restroom and shower house is very clean.

There is a nice walking trail path that goes around the exterior of the lake. The lake has boat access and some good fishing spots. There is also a restaurant and store on the lake. The breakfast at the restaurant is great! Mosquitoes are bad, remember to bring repellent.

    Cahokia RV Parque

Nice close park to St. Louis

Pet-friendly, full hookups, space for our larger rig and parking around for extra vehicle. Laundry and propane on site. Spaces were a little close together, but minutes from downtown St. Louis, and staff was friendly and accommodating. Also, fantastic restaurant right on site -- Sawmill BBQ!

    Cahokia RV Parque

    Cahokia RV Parque, IL

We chose Cahokia RV Park because of its close proximity to St. Louis Missouri. We stayed in a gravel site with a concrete pad, fire pit, picnic table and full-hook ups. The spaces are tighter, but that was expected being closer to a city. There is a playground, pool and pond area to walk around. We were pleased with the cleanliness of the bathrooms and showers and had no major complaints. The price reflected what we got out of our stay.

    Cahokia RV Parque

Close to STL, beautiful bathrooms, restaurant on site, after hours check in

I specifically would like to point out things that I look for when booking because I’m usually already on the road when trying to find a place to stay. There was after hours check in! But also a so friendly staff in the office. Beautiful coded bathrooms with showers. They were heated and warm and very well marked.
We did get a 30amp spot, because we have a van with solar panels and didn’t need to hook up. From doing this we were placed under street lights so they were always on and bright directly on our van. The next night they let us move to a 50 amp. The 50 amp spaces were the only ones with firepits. Rvs are close to one another but I was completely okay with that. There was road noise, quite a bit. But large trash bins and a great bbq restaurant on the grounds! I was planning on grabbing a gallon of milk when we got there...there really is nothing around the rv park! Maybe a couple gas stations at best, but if you need groceries or anything, stop and get them before you get close. Stop in the town before.

Oh and an awesome playground for the kids!!

Guide to Greenville

Cabin camping near Greenville, Illinois offers lakeside accommodations within 25 miles of the city. The area sits at approximately 500-600 feet above sea level with a humid continental climate featuring warm summers and cold winters. Most cabin properties operate in the Illinois state park system or private campgrounds, with peak season running April through October when daytime temperatures average 75-85°F.

What to do

Fishing access: Sites at Dam West Campground provide direct lake access. "We camped right on the lake with a great view. This site and the site next to it are the best sites in the campground with a pull through layout for a great setup for a lake view from the side of your camper," notes Cody S.

Swimming options: Carlyle Lake offers designated swimming areas. "There is a swimming pool and campground store. The pool was closed when we were there but looked nice," reports Allen S. from Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area.

Hiking trails: Stephen A. Forbes State Recreation Area offers wooded paths. "Main trail was nice but could be better marked. Lost our way a few times but still a good hike," reports Tracie E.

Biking opportunities: Multiple campgrounds feature paved roads suitable for cycling. "This park is perfect for taking long walks and bike riding," writes Rhonda B. about Dam West Campground.

What campers like

Privacy level: Campsites at Illini Campground — Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area offer spacious layouts. "We stayed in site #7 for one night in the spring. Some sites are spacious, others are pretty cramped. The loop that we stayed on was close to the water with views of Carlyle Lake," explains Allen S.

Shower facilities: Clean bathhouses rank high in visitor satisfaction. "The shower houses are clean and air conditioned, there's a nice camp store that serves breakfast and basic lunches, and there is a nice large zero entry pool for a $5 fee on weekends," notes Aimee T.

Seasonal events: Halloween activities draw families. "They have a huge Halloween event every year where people decorate their sites (pretty extensively) and there's a haunted house, then kids trick or treat from site to site," shares a visitor.

Proximity to supplies: Most cabin areas are within 10 minutes of basic shopping. "Walmart is just 5-10min away if needed as well as restaurants, gas station, and other amenities in Carlyle nearby," reports Brooke C.

What you should know

Water quality concerns: Some facilities report issues with water systems. "Only complaint that I have was the potable water supply. I filled by trailer's tank at the drinking water supply when you enter the campground. It was extremely dirty with a lot of copper colored solids," reports Allen S.

Reservation timing: Okaw Valley Kampground accommodates last-minute stays. "This place was a godsend. I called frantically searching for a space in late November and was greeted by a lovely person who got me all set up over the phone," shares Michael A.

Cell service limitations: Connection varies by location. "There is very little cell service so it is a great place to be unplugged and enjoy time with friends and family," notes Lori W. about Stephen A. Forbes.

Site variations: Campgrounds offer diverse cabin options. "They squeezed site was 7 ft wide with little gravel mostly wet grass and mud. Our 40000 lb RV was 8 1/2"ft wide," reports one unhappy visitor at Country Bend Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Country Bend Campground offers extensive play areas. "This is a really great campground! Huge campground with a lot of different areas. Be prepared for a lot of walking unless you rent or bring your own golf cart. We really loved the bridges with trails to ponds, and the jumping pillow," writes Kaitlin D.

Child-friendly atmosphere: Some campgrounds foster independence. "Nice level sites next to the lake. Reminds me of when I was a kid and there were camp clubs. You came with your parents and didn't see them again until night time. We swam rode bikes and just played," shares StaceeQ Q.

Activity planning: Weekend programming varies by season. "Holiday weekends have so many planned activities, some for all ages," notes a Country Bend visitor.

Wildlife viewing: Forest habitats support diverse animal populations. "Oh and lots of deer bed down in the grassy areas at night, which was a fun thing to see!" reports Chelsea D.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Rustic Acres Jellystone offers various site types. "The campsites are small and a bit pricey, but it is a great family friendly place. Good pizza and amazing ice cream at the store! Kid fun and themed activities, bounce trampoline pillow, pool, etc," reports Amber H.

Hookup availability: Electric options range from 30-50 amp service. "We chose a site on gravel as met our needs and was less expensive, but most of the sites are grassy and under the trees," explains Lyle M.

Weather considerations: Wind exposure affects lakeside sites. "There was not any shade on the site, so you will be dependent on an awning. Keep in mind that strong winds can sweep across the lake and pick things up if not secured," warns Cody S.

Accessibility factors: Site layout impacts mobility. "Unless you have a restroom in your rig, be prepared to walk up to the showerhouse. The pit toilets that were spread across the campground were in horrendous condition," cautions Chelsea D.
