    Country Bend Campground

    Great family friendly campground

Great place to stay and feel part of the community.  Pretty scenery to walk around.  Plenty of lakes/ponds to fish.  We couldn't boat while there due to COVID but look forward to going back and taking our kayaks.  Attentive and Friendly camp hosts. Pet friendly. Close to town if you've forgotten anything or want to have a restaurant dinner. Close to the highway for easy access.  Full hookup available. Monthly or Season also available.

    Country Bend Campground

    Great experience!

Big things happening at Country Bend Campgrounds in Montrgromy Co, IL. This beautiful campground has many things to offer and is only a few minutes from the local drive in movie theater in Litchfield Illinois. It has a pool, swing sets, playground, cabins, ponds with stocked fish, beautiful walking trails, camping, welcome center, baseball field, volleyball, games, horseshoes, paddle boats, miniature golf, and so much more. This family run business is under new management and is welcoming new seasonal campers and day campers with competitive pricing. This beautiful campground is nestled in a scenic area in the country and is pet friendly. It has clean shower houses with warm water. We just purchased our seasonal campsite earlier in the season. Come check out this amazing campground and all it has to offer! Our rough collies will be joining us at this dog friendly campground! There is always something to do here and the owners strive to make it a family place by providing many activities on the weekends. The owners have done an amazing job on this campground and have made it one of the best campgrounds around to create that lasting experience with our children before they grow up!!!

    Country Bend Campground

    GO ELSEWHERE

Our motorhome is a big rig a 42 foot diesel pusher.. They squeezed site was 7 ft wide with little gravel mostly wet grass and mud.Our 40000 lb RV was 8 1/2"ft wide. We were put in a spot by Country Bend Campground not large enough for our vehicle. Not much gravel all mud. Due to a huge tree no satellite service yet the owners stated was good for our 42 ft diesel pusher motorhome and no obstacles. We were sandwiched between two living full time people right next to us. We waited 3 hours to come in since they charge$5 an hour extra for early arrival. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!$$$$ is their goal. They want you to rent their golf carts because everything is so spread out. We have been full timing for two years. This is the worst experience we ever had. No water hookup. We called Kate Tuxhorn the owner and she said sorry i forgot to tell you that you have to tap in your neighbors water. Her husband Jeff Tuxhorn has many bad reviews too.Leaving we hit that huge tree that we had no way to turn. Thousands of$ damage.

    Opossum Creek

    Nice so can be crowded

The Opossum Creek Recreation area is open year-round for the boat ramp and Disabled / children fishing pond and pier. The campground is only open Memorial Day to Labor Day. I camped here in June, however I did the photography in October so there are no campers in the shots. This campground is only about 6 miles from the town of Shelbyville where there is a Walmart, restaurant’s, gas stations, bait, hardware stores, medical care, the Shelbyville Dam, Beach, City Park with lakeside trails and firewood. This proximity to facility’s makes it popular, so having less than 100 campsites it tends to fill up quickly. It is advisable to book ahead on-line if you want to stay here. The sites are nice and the park is clean, but the sites are close together. The boat ramp is well thought out with tons of parking and being close to town is usually busy in the summer season. This campground is also cared for by the Corps of Engineers and seasoned camp hosts man the gate house at the campground. The disabled fishing pond is well stocked so it is easy for wheel chair bound fishermen to catch their daily quota. I recommend this campground for people with motorhomes, fifth-wheels and campers that want to take in the Shelbyville lake town experience while visiting.

    Coles Creek Recreation Area

    Nice lake, quiet campground

Coles Creek Campground on Carlyle Lake has 219 sites, most with full hookups, and shade. (There is 30 & 50 a as no service). Internet is spotty. There are also 2 group campsites with cabins. There are showers, flush toilet, a playground, fish cleaning station, boat ramp and a dump station. There is also a laundry area. All the campsites are either on the shoreline or a short walk to the lake. The whole campground is fairly flat, so the sites are level and easy to get into. There are a few pull through sites. Comes Creek is on the east side of Carlyle Lake, away from the larger, more crowded Hazlet State Park area. It’s a great place for fishing and boating or just enjoying the lake. The lake is a prime fishing and boating lake, and is recognized as one of the nation's top ten inland sailing lakes.

    Okaw Valley Kampground

    Very Convenient!

This campground is very convenient if you’re looking for a quick stay during a trip. It’s just a short hop off the highway, yet the road noise wasn’t bad. Barb, one of the owners was very helpful and nice. The ground was very squishy due to melted snow and a lot of rain. And Barb apologized for that, even though it’s not her fault. Did not use the facilities. It’s big rig friendly and has pull through sites.

The Double J Campground and RV Park

    Beautiful place!

Beautiful place! We called ahead to see if they had sites available for the next two nights. Arrived just before the office closed at 5:45pm. The campground area past the office is electronically gated and registrants receive a scannable card for entry. Once we had scanned and entered through the gate they escorted us to our pull-through full-hookups site. The campsites are nice and wide, gravel like the roads, with wide grassy areas between and beautiful mature shade trees everywhere. Our site had a picnic table and a small fire ring. Full hookups worked fine.

The campground is next to a large corn field that has recently been cut; I suspect during the growing/harvest season there may be dust and noise from equipment, and perhaps overspray from any chemicals that are dusted on it. This time of year it was nice and quiet. The noise from the highway bordering both cornfield and campground, however, was loud and constant.

Bathrooms were clean and aerated by large fans which were loud but effective.

We would definitely stay here again.

Guide to Butler

Camping options near Butler, Illinois encompass a range of amenities and experiences beyond standard RV parks. The region sits in central Illinois's prairie landscape with elevations around 600-650 feet above sea level. Most campgrounds operate in a seasonal climate with hot, humid summers and cold winters, creating a primary camping season from April through October when temperatures average 60-85°F during daytime hours.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Country Bend Campground in Litchfield features multiple stocked ponds for fishing. "Plenty of lakes/ponds to fish. We couldn't boat while there due to COVID but look forward to going back and taking our kayaks," notes camper Sherry W.

Miniature golf courses: Several Country Bend Campground locations offer family-friendly recreation. "18 hole putt putt, lots of outdoor games, planned activities on the weekends, shaded sites, and air conditioned cabins! This place is a campers dream with great staff always happy to see you," reports Kate T.

Swimming pools: Beat the summer heat with on-site swimming facilities. "We had a great time with lots of activities to keep the kiddos busy," states Lynnette about her family's experience at Country Bend Campground.

Walking trails: Explore the countryside on designated paths. "We love the dog yard!" mentions Larry B. about Kamper Kompanion RV Park, which features a fenced pet area with benches for dogs to exercise.

What campers like

Spacious sites: The gravel pull-through sites at many area campgrounds provide ample room. "Easy pull thru site with 40' and toad. Basically a big open flat field with sites and building spread throughout," notes Jessica T. about Kamper Kompanion RV Park.

Quiet atmosphere: Despite proximity to highways, many campers report peaceful stays. "Just off the highway, but minimal noise. Clean. Well maintained. Pleasant staff. We had a long pull through, but there are a limited number of those," writes Angie G. about her experience at Kamper Kompanion.

Weekend activities: The Double J Campground and RV Park offers regular organized events. "Nice walking trail, swimming pool, playground, outdoor checkers, basketball court, put put golf," reports Kelsie L., noting the variety of amenities available.

Accessibility: Most RV parks near Butler, Illinois provide easy highway access. "Easy on and off the Interstate. Very clean and quiet. There is a lot of shade in the main part of the park. It has a huge pool, putt-putt golf, and washer and dryers," mentions Shelly W. about The Double J Campground.

What you should know

Seasonal operation: Most campgrounds close during winter months. Kamper Kompanion operates from March 15 to October 31, while Country Bend Campground runs April through November.

Site conditions: Gravel sites can become muddy after rain. "Due to a huge tree no satellite service yet the owners stated was good for our 42 ft diesel pusher motorhome and no obstacles," reports one reviewer about Country Bend Campground, highlighting potential challenges for large rigs.

Interstate noise: Several parks sit near highways, creating ambient road noise. "The only downside is the noise of the interstate but honestly it was fine. We only stayed a couple nights and were really close to the road but there are certainly spots deeper in the grounds that probably aren't as loud," notes Jessica T. about The Double J Campground.

Limited tent sites: Not all parks accommodate tent campers equally. "There are only about 6 tent sites at this campground, which makes it not entirely friendly for tent campers," reports Kaitlyn H. about Cedarbrook RV Park and Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds offer dedicated play areas for children. "Big things happening at Country Bend Campgrounds in Montgomery Co, IL. This beautiful campground has many things to offer and is only a few minutes from the local drive in movie theater in Litchfield Illinois. It has a pool, swing sets, playground, cabins, ponds with stocked fish, beautiful walking trails," shares Tara L.

Activity planning: Holiday weekends feature special events at many parks. "Holiday weekends have so many planned activities, some for all ages. We really loved the bridges with trails to ponds, and the jumping pillow," writes Kaitlin D. about her experience at Country Bend Campground.

Distance considerations: Some facilities require substantial walking. "This is a really great campground! Huge campground with a lot of different areas. Be prepared for a lot of walking unless you rent or bring your own golf cart," advises Kaitlin D. about navigating the expansive grounds.

Tips from RVers

Shower facilities: Bathroom quality varies between campgrounds. "Honestly amazed by how clean and well maintained this campground is. River rock driveways (not gravel) and sites- well packed down and regularly grated," notes Jessica T. about The Double J Campground.

Truck stop options: For overnight convenience, some travelers use truck stop RV hookups. "Easy reservation system online. $60 is a bit pricey for one night. Electricity and water at each spot which are concrete slabs. Typical super busy truck stop with bright lights and lots of action but safe and convenient," reports Julie F. about Love's RV Hookup in Hamel.

Internet connectivity: WiFi quality varies significantly between parks. "Full site hookups 30/50 amp, water, sewer, cable and WiFi. Many many pros to this park. Cons- very pricey, WiFi is about the speed of dial up, for the price you should be able to do more with it," shares Kelsie L. about The Double J Campground.
