Best RV Parks & Resorts near Blue Mound, IL

Several RV parks near Blue Mound, Illinois provide full-hookup options for motorhomes and travel trailers. The Double J Campground in Chatham offers year-round access with electric, water, and sewer hookups on spacious gravel sites that accommodate big rigs. "The campsites are nice and wide, gravel like the roads, with wide grassy areas between and beautiful mature shade trees everywhere," noted one camper about Double J. Kamper Kompanion RV Park in Litchfield operates seasonally from March 15 to October 31 with electric, water, and sewer connections on pull-through sites. Springfield KOA in Rochester features pull-through sites with power and water hookups, though individual sewer connections are not available at all sites, requiring use of the dump station upon departure.

Full-hookup sites with 50-amp service are available at several locations, though availability varies seasonally. Many campgrounds require advance reservations, particularly during summer months and fall weekends when occupancy rates peak. Cell service quality differs between parks—Springfield KOA offers reliable coverage, while some rural locations may have limited connectivity. Bo Wood

    Campground with all the comforts

The Forest Bo Wood Recreation area has grown each year since I first camped there in 1979.

In 2017 it has 150 camping sites, a boat ramp, fish cleaning station, several picnic areas and a bait shop at the entrance on Illinois Route 32 4 miles South of Sullivan. The camp sites all have parking space for a big rig and one vehicle. There are some tent only sites but most have been converted to at least 30 amp electric sites with water hookups near the site. Many lake side sites are available, some years back there was a problem with the bank, but that has been dealt with.

Bath rooms and shower houses are very clean and there is good bank fishing near the pavilion at the turn around at the west end of the area. There is a marina just 1 mile South and across the bridge another ½ mile is the Sullivan beach. Just 1 more mile South is a Rosatti's pizza located in a gas station with a liquor store. Rossati's delivers pizza's to the 2 campgrounds that are this close to the business. People that love the comforts of home while camping love this campground, so it fills up in the spring and summer months.

All sites are spacious and include a picnic table, lantern stand, fire pit with grill grate and some have added camp stove stands. I find that October camping at Bo Woods most agreeable with less people tent camping and less boat traffic on the lake. The fishing this time of year is also very good.

    Friends Creek Campground

    Secluded and Cozy

We stayed here during our travels from Kansas to Indiana. While we only stayed one night, it was long enough to know that should we travel nearby again-this will be our stopping point. Easy to access from the highway yet while in the park, we experienced pure bliss and quiet. Spacious sites and an abundant amount of shade made this stay even better! The camp hosts do an excellent job as the grounds and bathhouse were all immaculate! These are electric only sites however there are several water spigots to fill the tank prior to parking. For ease, there are even potable water spigots at the dump station and the bathhouse as well. Our site was fairly level and easy to maneuver into. For reference, we have a 34’ fifth wheel. When reserving, note that there are a handful of 50 amp sites, several 30 amp sites and tent sites available.

    Great family friendly campground

Great place to stay and feel part of the community.  Pretty scenery to walk around.  Plenty of lakes/ponds to fish.  We couldn't boat while there due to COVID but look forward to going back and taking our kayaks.  Attentive and Friendly camp hosts. Pet friendly. Close to town if you've forgotten anything or want to have a restaurant dinner. Close to the highway for easy access.  Full hookup available. Monthly or Season also available.

    Country Bend Campground

    Great experience!

Big things happening at Country Bend Campgrounds in Montrgromy Co, IL. This beautiful campground has many things to offer and is only a few minutes from the local drive in movie theater in Litchfield Illinois. It has a pool, swing sets, playground, cabins, ponds with stocked fish, beautiful walking trails, camping, welcome center, baseball field, volleyball, games, horseshoes, paddle boats, miniature golf, and so much more. This family run business is under new management and is welcoming new seasonal campers and day campers with competitive pricing. This beautiful campground is nestled in a scenic area in the country and is pet friendly. It has clean shower houses with warm water. We just purchased our seasonal campsite earlier in the season. Come check out this amazing campground and all it has to offer! Our rough collies will be joining us at this dog friendly campground! There is always something to do here and the owners strive to make it a family place by providing many activities on the weekends. The owners have done an amazing job on this campground and have made it one of the best campgrounds around to create that lasting experience with our children before they grow up!!!

    Country Bend Campground

    GO ELSEWHERE

Our motorhome is a big rig a 42 foot diesel pusher.. They squeezed site was 7 ft wide with little gravel mostly wet grass and mud.Our 40000 lb RV was 8 1/2"ft wide. We were put in a spot by Country Bend Campground not large enough for our vehicle. Not much gravel all mud. Due to a huge tree no satellite service yet the owners stated was good for our 42 ft diesel pusher motorhome and no obstacles. We were sandwiched between two living full time people right next to us. We waited 3 hours to come in since they charge$5 an hour extra for early arrival. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!$$$$ is their goal. They want you to rent their golf carts because everything is so spread out. We have been full timing for two years. This is the worst experience we ever had. No water hookup. We called Kate Tuxhorn the owner and she said sorry i forgot to tell you that you have to tap in your neighbors water. Her husband Jeff Tuxhorn has many bad reviews too.Leaving we hit that huge tree that we had no way to turn. Thousands of$ damage.

    Opossum Creek

    Nice so can be crowded

The Opossum Creek Recreation area is open year-round for the boat ramp and Disabled / children fishing pond and pier. The campground is only open Memorial Day to Labor Day. I camped here in June, however I did the photography in October so there are no campers in the shots. This campground is only about 6 miles from the town of Shelbyville where there is a Walmart, restaurant’s, gas stations, bait, hardware stores, medical care, the Shelbyville Dam, Beach, City Park with lakeside trails and firewood. This proximity to facility’s makes it popular, so having less than 100 campsites it tends to fill up quickly. It is advisable to book ahead on-line if you want to stay here. The sites are nice and the park is clean, but the sites are close together. The boat ramp is well thought out with tons of parking and being close to town is usually busy in the summer season. This campground is also cared for by the Corps of Engineers and seasoned camp hosts man the gate house at the campground. The disabled fishing pond is well stocked so it is easy for wheel chair bound fishermen to catch their daily quota. I recommend this campground for people with motorhomes, fifth-wheels and campers that want to take in the Shelbyville lake town experience while visiting.

    Friends Creek Campground

    Nice rural camping

General: 40-site campground with three non-electric and the rest are either 30 or 50-amp electric. Several water spigots are sprinkled throughout the campground.

Site quality: All sites are gravel and level. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. The sites are spaced a decent amount of distance apart and with the many trees, it did not feel crowded, despite being almost full when we were there.

Bath/Shower: Very clean with soap, paper towels, and a shelf for toiletries. Did not use the shower but it looked clean as well.

Activities/Amenities: There are two well-marked and well-maintained trails plus a playground and basketball hoop. There is also a historic schoolhouse, and guided tours are available by calling. Before leaving the next morning, I enjoyed a walk on the two trails. There is a dump station and potable water.

The campground was almost completely full on a Friday at the end of October yet very quiet.

The Double J Campground and RV Park

    Beautiful place!

Beautiful place! We called ahead to see if they had sites available for the next two nights. Arrived just before the office closed at 5:45pm. The campground area past the office is electronically gated and registrants receive a scannable card for entry. Once we had scanned and entered through the gate they escorted us to our pull-through full-hookups site. The campsites are nice and wide, gravel like the roads, with wide grassy areas between and beautiful mature shade trees everywhere. Our site had a picnic table and a small fire ring. Full hookups worked fine.

The campground is next to a large corn field that has recently been cut; I suspect during the growing/harvest season there may be dust and noise from equipment, and perhaps overspray from any chemicals that are dusted on it. This time of year it was nice and quiet. The noise from the highway bordering both cornfield and campground, however, was loud and constant.

Bathrooms were clean and aerated by large fans which were loud but effective.

We would definitely stay here again.

Guide to Blue Mound

Central Illinois offers camping options near Blue Mound, a small village surrounded by agricultural land at an elevation of 675 feet. The area experiences four distinct seasons with hot, humid summers and cold winters. Fall camping is particularly popular during September and October when temperatures moderate to 60-75°F during the day.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Sangchris Lake State Park Campground, anglers can access multiple fishing spots directly from the campground. "This park has multiple public use areas, 2 campgrounds, boat launches, fishing piers and a beach," notes Susan L. The 3,000-acre cooling lake is stocked with largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie.

Boating excursions: Coon Creek offers excellent lake access for various watercraft. "Lake Shelbyville has everything: biking, hiking, a beach, fishing and the town has a small movie theater showing current movies for $4.00," shares Ronald B. Many campsites include direct water access where "people leave the boat near the campsite but still on the water."

Miniature golf and recreation: Family activities abound at Springfield KOA just 30 minutes from Blue Mound. "The campground is very nice, a lot of amenities for families like pool, little bikes, miniature golf and horseshoes," writes Grace D. The campground maintains these recreational facilities throughout their April to November season.

What campers like

Private waterfront access: Many campers appreciate the secluded lakeside sites at Sangchris Lake State Park Hickory Point. "We always get sites with our own private dock to fish from. Spotty reception but it's great to unplug," says Kaitlin D. The electric-only sites feature their own trails leading directly to the water.

Clean facilities: The Double J Campground receives consistent praise for maintenance standards. "Nice level site, pull through for overnighters (thank you) lots of grass and walking areas for pets, pool, playground etc. friendly service and a welcoming place," notes Patricia G. Year-round availability makes this a reliable option in all seasons.

Easy access from major routes: Kamper Kompanion RV Park provides convenient highway accessibility for travelers. "Easy on off, right by highway, pulled in after dark and they met us to show us to the site and got us settled. Easy pull thru site with 40' and toad," shares Jessica T. The level sites accommodate large rigs with tow vehicles.

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Many campgrounds near Blue Mound have limited operating seasons. Kamper Kompanion runs from March 15 to October 31, while Springfield KOA operates April 1 to November 1. "We stay there every time we pass through Litchfield. Quiet, family friendly, and great for our dogs. We love the dog yard!" reports Larry B. about Kamper Kompanion.

Water challenges: Heavy rain can affect site conditions at some campgrounds. At Arrowhead Acres, guests find "grounds were clean and roomy" with "hosts very friendly," according to Brooke. However, other nearby campgrounds can become muddy after rainfall, so packing extra ground covering is advisable.

Cell service variations: Connectivity differs significantly between locations. At Sangchris Lake State Park Hickory Point, "Decent AT&T cellular coverage (it varies but able to stream, etc)" reports Jason L. Some more remote sites have minimal coverage, which affects work-from-campsite possibilities.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Families with children should consider campgrounds with dedicated play areas. "Small playground for kids. Quiet and peaceful," notes Brooke about Arrowhead Acres. The playground provides entertainment while adults set up camp or prepare meals.

Beach swimming: For water activities, Coon Creek offers swimming options during summer months. "We chose a buddy site even though we weren't camping with another family because we like the location. It was right at the end of the peninsula," shares Melissa B. The "great little beach" provides supervised swimming from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Budget-friendly entertainment: Several campgrounds offer affordable recreation options. Crystal from Coon Creek mentions, "There was a path behind our site that led to a private 'beach'. Brought my camp chair down the path, and enjoyed my coffee enjoying the lake view while my kiddos were hunting for more frogs." These natural activities keep children entertained without additional cost.

Tips from RVers

Hookup considerations: RV camping near Blue Mound, Illinois requires planning for electrical connections. "Sites have power and water, you have to go to dump station on the way out as there aren't individual sewers," Grace D. explains about Springfield KOA. Most campgrounds offer 30/50 amp service, but not all provide full hookups.

Level sites: The Double J Campground provides reliably level spaces for larger rigs. "The folks were extremely friendly and the sites are all pull through. Very clean and well-maintained," reports Diane. Staff escort you to your site to ensure proper positioning for your specific RV configuration.

Off-season advantages: For RV camping near Blue Mound during shoulder seasons, Kamper Kompanion offers quieter experiences. "Came thru in February, so only a few permanent people. Very quiet and super clean," notes Jessica T. Off-season camping provides more privacy with fewer neighbors, though not all amenities may be operational.
