    Smiley Creek Lodge

    Good spot in the sawtooths

This is a good option between Ketchum and Stanley to go explore the sawtooth mountains. It’s a little bit of everything, lodge, yurts, cabins, rv spots, gas station, restaurant. RV spots were reasonable level. Bathrooms were clean. They had horseshoes and bean bags in a common area. No picnic tables or fire pits though. RV spots were pretty wide, which was nice

One tip, avoid spot number #17 if possible. The sewer hookup was loose and shared with a long term resident on the other side, also the water spigot was broken so we had to use the spigot for spot #16. #17 is not terrible, but other spots are much better.

    Smiley Creek Lodge

    Expensive and low quality

We stayed here to be close to redfish lake to snatch a spot for camping there in the morning. For that it served its purpose but that is all that is positive about it. We had to pay 114 dollars for an rv site that was not level, did not have a picnic table or a fire ring, or even place to put a table and chairs. The bathroom is very far away, and there is only one, which does not have a door, but a shower curtain. The location is nice, but if possible I would keep driving to find a better place.

Out in the middle of NOWHERE

Fort Running Bear RV Park, Idaho

If you like the middle of nowhere, you will like Fort Running Bear RV Park. It is approximately 32 miles to the middle of nowhere, the last three are on a dirt road. You are driving through scrub country with no trees and hills in the distance. Then you see a copse of trees in the distance. That is where you end up. This is an older campground, private and family run. There is a shower house attached to the swimming pool and a laundry room. The sites have room around them for tents, bikes, etc; a covered picnic table , most have shade and fire rings. There are full hookup sites and basic sites. When we visited the wind was wiping through the area. The owners are personable and friendly, the campground is well maintained. The shower house ...clean and a little old. This would be a nice place to spend a quiet weekend or time with the family. It would not make sense to use this campground for a base camp due to the distance from anywhere.

    Hagerman RV Village

    Great hidden gem!

This campground is quiet, shady and pleasant. Very well maintained, laundry is cheap, $3, and just a joy to be outside. We spent our time around the picnic table, despite 98°temps. Hiked Box Canyon and swam, visited the Fossil Bed NM, and drove to Twin Falls for more swimming, shopping, movie and skating.

Wide open space for families and pets. A small lake, bathrooms available and electrical hookups. Option to sled on sand dunes (rentals available and beginning of camp ground, check hours). Water hookups and showers available depending on time of year. Amazing sunrise and sunset views.

Fall asleep to the sounds of the river

Murdock campground has been lovely. There are 11 spots each with a picnic table, partial shade, and fire ring. There are two pit toilets and drinking water that is ice cold coming out of the tap. The camp hosts have been absolutely wonderful. The only downside is that the air quality is pretty bad due to fires in the surrounding areas.

    Remote and close to everything

We took a chance and scouted a right before the 4th of July weekend and we scored big time. Site #1. Because of the view, we pulled our 30ft class A in instead of backing. We had long range, multi tiered views of the Sawtooth Mtn. The sites are generously spaced with picnic table and fire ring. There is a camp host and firewood is available at their site.. Water is available at the dump station located on the left before you arrive. It services all area NF service campgrounds as well as paid for others not. We had good ATT service 2 and 3 bars. Most of the sites have some shade. There are other disbursed campsites on the main FS road, but we were not disturbed by cars. It is super quiet at night. The night was cool. Lots of hiking , mountain biking and fishing in the immediate area. Ketchum and Sun Valley are 15 min away. The rails to trails multi purpose trail starts just down the road. Super safe place to ride. 30 + miles . We don't want to leave.

    Smiley Creek Lodge

Great staff, clean place that caters mainly to RVs

I passed this place on Labor Day weekend and decided to stay. They officially don’t have tent sites but had some grassy area where I could pitch my tent anyway. That did mean there were no picnic tables or fire rings for me but the RV sites did have them.

The bathroom/showers were small but clean.

The bar/restaurant serves good food and the staff and locals were very friendly and offered all kinds of suggestions for my trip

Guide to Corral

Camping cabins near Corral, Idaho provide access to the surrounding Boise National Forest and Sawtooth Mountain range. At 4,800 feet elevation, cabin camping in this high desert region experiences temperature swings of 30-40 degrees between day and night, even in summer months. Most cabin rentals require reservations 3-6 months in advance during peak season (June-August) with availability opening in January.

What to do

Disc golf trail hiking: Trinity View Resort offers a disc golf trail that doubles as a hiking path with mountain views. A reviewer noted, "Nice disc golf trail that I used for hiking with the dogs" and mentioned "360 views of the mountain range" that surround the property.

Soak in hot springs: Miracle Hot Springs features private hot spring tub rooms alongside their cabin accommodations. "I would recommend renting a private room for $40 to soak in your own tub," writes one visitor, noting "fresh clean water in your own private room" was especially valuable. The facility includes "a big, deep swimming pool with perfect temperature water, a hot hot hot pool, a more shallow less hot big pool, and another pool yet!"

Night sky viewing: Cabins near Corral offer exceptional stargazing due to minimal light pollution. At Murdock Creek Dispersed camping area, a visitor described "the beauty of the night sky unencumbered by city lights; the Milky Way was on full display," making it worth bringing binoculars or a telescope.

What campers like

Wildlife encounters: Trinity View Resort cabin and RV areas offer opportunities to spot local wildlife. One camper reported, "Woke up at sunrise to find 4 deer wondering through. My dogs loved the campground." Several areas around Corral provide similar wildlife viewing opportunities, particularly at dawn and dusk.

River access: 1000 Springs Resort offers cabin options with direct water access. "We just went to 1000 springs this past weekend. A total of 12 of us in two separate spots. One right on the water...The water was wonderful and we were able to paddle over to Ritter island on our paddle boards," reported one visitor. Most riverside cabins include docks for easy water entry.

Heated pool access: Cabins at some resorts include pool amenities. A visitor to Trinity View Resort highlighted that the "Heated pool is a hit!!!" while another mentioned "The pool was closed but I'm sure it would have been very nice." Pool availability varies seasonally at most facilities, typically operating May through September.

What you should know

Remote locations: Many cabin rentals near Corral require travel on unpaved roads. A visitor to Trinity View noted, "dusty 3 mile road and all," but still rated the experience highly. Several properties are 15-30 minutes from the nearest town.

Limited connectivity: Cell service and internet access vary widely among cabin rentals. At Rustic Edge RV Park, which offers cabin accommodations, visitors appreciate unplugging. One reviewer described spending time "on the dock and watched frogs eating bugs off the water" instead of using devices.

Seasonal considerations: Temperatures fluctuate dramatically in this region. At Bruneau Dunes State Park Campground, a visitor warned that "it gets very cold at night and hot and dry during the day." Another noted the sand "can get burning hot, literally," requiring appropriate footwear for outdoor activities.

Tips for camping with families

Water features: Rustic Edge RV Park offers family-friendly cabin options near water features. "The pond and lazy river were a hit with the kids," noted one family. Their landscaped grounds include "a pond and covered activity area" making it suitable for families with children of various ages.

Bring own entertainment: Most cabin areas have limited organized activities. A visitor to Trinity View Resort noted they "had our E-Bikes and took some amazing rides through the valleys and mountains" which provided family entertainment. Board games, cards, and outdoor sports equipment are recommended.

Temperature preparation: Pack clothing for both hot days and cold nights. A camper at Bruneau Dunes State Park Campground mentioned, "Even though it was really hot...it gets very cold at night," suggesting families bring both warm sleeping clothes and cool daytime attire when staying in cabins.

Tips from RVers

Hookup verification: When booking cabins as an RV alternative, confirm what utilities are included. At Smiley Creek Lodge, a visitor noted that "The water spigot was broken so we had to use the spigot for spot #16," suggesting flexibility might be needed even with cabin accommodations.

Shared amenities: Understand which facilities are shared versus private. At Hagerman RV Village, which offers cabin rentals, a reviewer appreciated that "bathrooms were sparkling and the sites were very well kept" but these were communal facilities shared among all guests.

Noise considerations: Some cabin areas experience unexpected noise. At 1000 Springs Resort, one guest warned, "This campground is a nonstop party," recommending visitors "bring your ear plugs" if staying in cabins during peak season weekends due to nearby boat traffic.
