Lost Trail Resort

Lost Trail Resort sits along the Portneuf River in southeastern Idaho, operating as a private campground that combines tent and RV camping with proximity to the area's hot springs. The property features sites positioned directly next to the flowing water, with most camping spots arranged along the riverbank on grassy areas.

Campers can pitch tents right beside the river or hook up RVs with full electric and water connections. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, while two bathroom facilities provide shower access. Peter H. notes "New power and water to the sites," indicating recent infrastructure improvements. The campground appears to be undergoing renovations, with construction work visible around the motel portion of the property.

Transportation noise presents a significant consideration for light sleepers. Semi-trucks use the adjacent highway frequently throughout the night, and trains pass regularly with horn signals at a nearby crossing. Despite the road and rail activity, the riverside location provides a grassy camping surface with livestock visible in surrounding fields. The facility charges $48 for tent sites and maintains a camp host on-site.

For those planning regional trips, campgrounds near Lava Hot Springs offer additional options within the hot springs district. The resort provides convenient access to the town's thermal pools while maintaining a riverside camping experience.

Many campers appreciated the scenic riverside sites with full hookups and friendly hosts. Several guests reported problems regarding road and train noise throughout the night. Bathroom facilities are functional but undergoing improvements.

River Campsites

Came through at sundown looking for a place to camp with the RTT. Short drive to the Hot Springs. $48 for a tent spot. Full hookups. Tables and fire ring. On the river. Easy spot, but the trains are all night long and there is a crossing just over the highway from the resort…. So they honk for a 1/2 mile as they approach.

Beautiful country setting

This is such a pretty little place ! Put our tent right next to the river on grass. Picnic table, fire ring. Horses and sheep in the background. Very picturesque ! 2 bathrooms were available and each had a shower. Not the cleanest, but they were ok. I think they are in the process of building new bathrooms. Only drawback ... you are really close to the road, which seemed to be an expressway for semi trucks all night long. There is a train that goes by too, but the train didn’t bother us. Loved this campground for its scenery. Friendly camp host.

Great spot down by the river.

Most of the sites are along the river. New power and water to the sites, and it looks like they are under construction on the motel part. Bathrooms are so so..assuming they will get to those after the motel repairs... Probably new owners.
