Cabins near Whitesburg provide varying levels of comfort and rustic charm, with options available at several area campgrounds. Banning Mills Treehouses offers unique elevated cabin rentals, while Chattahoochee Bend State Park Campground features four cabins with running water and electricity. Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park contains original CCC-built cabins with modern kitchens alongside rustic wood-burning stoves. "The cabin feels both rustic and has a modern kitchen, which is great for cooking a celebratory feast. It also has two interior wood-burning stoves, one in the living room and one in the bedroom, so perfect for those chilly nights," notes one visitor who stayed in Cabin 1 at FDR State Park. Stone Mountain Park also offers cabin accommodations with proximity to hiking trails and lake activities.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Some properties like Pine Mountain RV Resort provide basic cabin rentals alongside more upscale options. Reservations are strongly recommended for all cabin accommodations, especially during peak summer months when availability becomes limited. Most cabins permit pets, though specific policies vary by location. A review for Red Top Mountain noted, "The campground has a lot to offer! It has a boat access point, fishing, walking and biking trails, a small putt putt course, playground area for the kids and best of all it's pet friendly!" Winter cabin availability is more limited, with some properties closing seasonally.

Most cabin rentals include beds with mattresses but require guests to bring their own sheets, pillows, blankets and towels. Kitchen facilities vary widely between properties - from fully equipped kitchens at FDR State Park cabins to minimal cooking options at more rustic accommodations. Atlanta South RV Resort and Yogi Bears Jellystone Park both feature cabin rentals with market facilities on premises for basic grocery needs. Chattahoochee Bend has a welcome center with a gift shop selling camping essentials. Visitors planning extended stays should consider bringing cooking supplies, as restaurant options may be limited in immediate proximity to some of the more remote cabin locations.

Red Top Mountain State Park Campground

First time visiting & it won’t be our last

We’ve been wanting to camp here for a while, but every time we decided to go, it’s been all booked up.... that might have been our fault though, because we like to plan last min trips. 🙂 This time we actually planned it out a few weeks in advance and got a nice spot.

I really liked the booking process, because it shows you exactly what spot is available and it even shows you a pic of the site you’ll be getting. Our site was only $35 a night + a $5 parking pass.

The campground has a lot to offer! It has a boat access point, fishing, walking and biking trails, a small putt putt course, playground area for the kids and best of all it’s pet friendly! I can’t go without saying the employees are so friendly and helpful!

Campsite wise, it has electric, water, cable, a huge picnic table & a grill/fire pit. The only negative was it wasn’t a full hookup. 😔Something else that I really loved was all of the huge natural rocks located all throughout the campground. Each campsite seemed to have their own collection of rocks and it really added to the experience. Another plus is that it has a dump station right at the exit, so on your way out you can take care of your last minute steps to finish up your camping experience. 😁

If you’re in the area I would highly recommend this campground! You can’t go wrong!

Franklin D Roosevelt State Park Campground

Great views, near Roosevelt's Little White House and Warm Springs

Green forest on Pine Mountain, this campground is well laid out and has history.  Several projects done by the CCC.  40 miles of trails to hike/bike.  A CCC built pond where you can rent paddle boats or bring your own kayak or canoe.  Equestrian trail rides (and stable rentals) are available.  Water/power, fire pit, picnic tables on gravel sites with some pull thru.  Satellite tv can be received at some sites.  Showers/bathrooms with laundry facility at each.  And several trails to walk you dog.

Life size statue of FDR on Dowdell's Knob, where FDR would come to relax and take in the view over King's Gap.

Grocery store available in the town of Pine Mountain (about 15 minutes from campground).

Great base for area sight seeing:

Roosevelt's Little White House State Park

Warm Springs (where Roosevelt would go for the warm springs)

          In Columbus, GA:

      National Infantry on Fort Benning

      National Civil War Navy Museum

      Coca Cola Space Museum

      Stone Mountain Park Campground

      Extraordinary Attractions

Stone Mountain hardly needs another glowing review, but it is a pleasure to stay there. First, everything is contained and available. The views of the lake, and, yes, the mountain are gorgeous. There is a nice spacious check-in store. Your trash is picked up constantly from your site. Each site has a deck, a grill with a propane tank already attached, a picnic table, and a fire pit, electric and sewer hook ups. The sites are close together, but the decks are pretty private. If you bike, hike, run or like trails, boating and fishing, all are right there. It helps to have a car/truck, as the place is pretty immense, but my neighbors had a Class C and were throughly enjoying mountain biking to everything. Another neighbor with a gorgeous Class A was driving his towed truck to a neighboring Petco. There is everything. Deer roam in the morning and at night, and if golf is your sport of choice, Stone Mountain has a highly rated public course. The staff is very friendly. I liked the purple area near the playground and pool. The sites seemed a little more private. It’s not cheap, and I don’t know what discounts might be available. But, if you’re in or around Atlanta, this is the place to go. It will NOT disappoint.

      Great State park and camping

We were on site 213 and 214. Beautiful wooded site lots of space between sites in this loop. Very short walk to lake. Loop 1 sites are lake front and lake view but more close together than we like. Sites pretty level and gravel. Concrete picnic table, fire ring and light pole with lots of room fir our dogs. Bathroom facilities were very clean, with showers and laundry. Placed well around the campground. Playground but not opened at this time. Lots of hiking trails, pool, can rent canoes and paddle boats on the lake. Dog friendly. Close to Calloway Gardens and little town of Pine Mountain.

      Pine Mountain Camp Ground

Well maintained roads. Large sites with choice of full sun or shade site.

Staff is great and his campground allows campfires. Pet friendly with two dog parks. Great pool and has cabins and yurts to reserve. Less than three miles from Callaway Gardens and FDR Park. Town of Pine Mountain...two street lights...very quaint sidewalk shops! This place is a hidden treasure.

      Chattahoochee Bend State Park Campground

Cabins are definitely the highlight here!

The primitive sites (for tents) were a bit close and not as private as I like.

They offer platform camping and those sites seem a bit more secluded (and are in a separate area from the tent sites).

There are 4 cabins available to reserve and they have great amenities (running water, electricity)

We looked at them once there and think next time we will do this with the kids.

2 rangers live in the park full time and there is a large welcome center/ gift shop with basics for sale should you forget anything.

      Outdoor recreation happy place!

We stayed at FDR state park for 4 nights and it was a beautiful park with great hosts and great campsites! Bath houses were well-maintained and sites not on top of each other like some other places. They have horseback riding stables and kayaks for rent (but COVID is not allowing rentals). We took our kayaks and used them in Lake Delanor. Our campsite was #312 and it accommodated our 22 ft camper well, had an additional large tent pad, a fire ring and picnic table. We were located next to a group pavilion which we utilized when the rains came down. For dog owners like us, a big green grassy area was located behind our site to walk our 4-legged kids. Totally enjoyable experience and would love to return to backcountry camp and do some trails.

      Needs updates

Nice park, however needs some up dates. We visited during weekend, which is busy. Don’t want to complain, however “Barking Dogs” the whole time was a bit too much. That rule is not enforced by rangers. Not enough bathrooms, noticed yucky urine smells around campsites. (Peeing in the woods I suppose ). Sunday night-Monday morning, campground little more enjoyable, crowds and barking dogs vacated. However trash bins over flowing with mountain of trash.
WiFi unavailable and Antenna TV not available. Lots of shade, and pretty lake. Bathroom some what clean- one shower (?????). Our site not completely level, notice a lot of wash out gravel in other sites. For the price, I was disappointed with this park. It really could be a nice park with updates. Traveling in C Class.

    Guide to Whitesburg

Cabin camping near Whitesburg, Georgia offers accommodations within 40 miles of the city center, with elevations ranging from 700 to 1,100 feet throughout the region. The Chattahoochee River forms a natural boundary to the west, creating opportunities for waterfront cabin rentals. Summer temperatures typically reach 90°F while winter lows can drop to the low 30s, affecting cabin availability and amenities seasonally.

    What to do

Riverside platforms for overnight stays: Chattahoochee Bend State Park Campground offers elevated camping platforms that provide a unique overnight experience. "Platform sites are super nice. Short walk into the sites, right beside a river. Not much privacy between platforms but every time we have been it hasn't been full or crowded," notes Jessica D. about the riverside accommodations.

Hiking through varied terrain: Multiple trails wind through the forests around Whitesburg cabins. "Lots of great hiking. 2 playgrounds were open. Playgrounds are brand new or at least they look brand new. I am 225 lbs and I played on all the equipment with my daughter," shares Joey P. from Chattahoochee Bend State Park.

Lakeside activities beyond swimming: Stone Mountain Park Campground offers water activities adjacent to cabin sites. "My husband and son enjoyed fishing and paddle boarding right behind our site. There was a lot to see and do at Stone Mountain," writes Susan K., highlighting the convenience of lakefront cabin access.

    What campers like

Clean facilities with modern amenities: Franklin D Roosevelt State Park Campground maintains high standards for its cabin facilities. "Clean bathrooms, lots of shade, fresh water pump and electric at our site. Not much privacy but the lake is beautiful and you can rent boats, plus lots of hiking and history around," explains Stephani about the amenities available to cabin guests.

Spacious cabin sites with privacy: Site selection makes a significant difference in the cabin camping experience. "We were on site 213 and 214. Beautiful wooded site lots of space between sites in this loop. Very short walk to lake," shares Liz H. from Franklin D Roosevelt State Park, describing the layout and spaciousness.

Family-oriented amenities: Pine Mountain RV Resort provides additional features beyond basic cabin accommodations. "The campground is very clean and has a great pool area. The pool area has a kids pool and hot tub along with the regular inground pool," notes Aaron C., highlighting the recreational facilities available to cabin guests.

    What you should know

Gate closure policies vary by location: Some parks enforce strict entry and exit times. According to Denis P. at R. Shaefer Heard Campground, "Beware: the gate is locked shut from 10 PM to 8 AM, no exceptions unless the elderly host personally deems your emergency worthy."

Train noise affects some locations: Proximity to rail lines impacts the cabin experience at certain campgrounds. "The train near by is VERY loud though, it comes by morning noon and night," warns Kasey M. about staying at Yogi Bears Jellystone Park, where cabin accommodations are available but impacted by nearby transportation.

Winter water levels affect access: Seasonal changes impact cabin accessibility and amenities. "The lake is down right now because they are repairing the dam so it was fun to walk along the banks," notes SJ W. about R. Shaefer Heard Campground, describing winter conditions that change the landscape around cabin sites.

    Tips for camping with families

Pack for playground time: Multiple locations offer play equipment near cabin sites. "We were in campground 5 and from where our site was we could see the playground and also let our kids ride there bikes around the circle that the camp sites where on," shares Joshua H. from Franklin D Roosevelt State Park.

Consider splash areas for summer heat: Yogi Bears Jellystone Park offers water features specifically designed for children. "My kids loved the open activities at Jellystone! They bounced on the jump pad, went down the new bounce slide, enjoyed the playground, and the pools," reports Kasey M., though noting that "even though it was hot out, the pools were ice cold."

Select sites for running room: Some cabin areas provide more space for active children. Hunter K. from Pine Mountain RV Resort shares, "We stayed in site 185. While it was one of the more expensive sites in the park it was well worth it. The nice lady that answered the phone made the recommendation when I told her I'd like somewhere for my kids to run."

    Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges at some sites: Terrain varies significantly between cabin locations. "Backing in was not difficult even though we had to raise the right tire 3" to be level," mentions Erin C. about site #103 at Chattahoochee Bend State Park Campground, demonstrating the adjustments needed for parking larger vehicles.

Electric capacity limitations: Power supply can affect extended stays in cabin areas. "30 amp circuit was not adequate. The breaker continually tripped while using small kitchen appliances," reports Brittany about Pine Mountain RV Resort, highlighting infrastructure limitations relevant to those bringing additional equipment.

Proximity to essential supplies: Local stores provide convenient access to forgotten items. "We had a great time and really appreciated the trash pickup twice a day and the Dollar General that was only a 1/4 mile down the road," notes Brittany from Pine Mountain RV Resort, identifying nearby resources for cabin campers.
