Best RV Parks & Resorts near Sapelo Island, GA

Several RV parks sit within driving distance of Sapelo Island, Georgia, providing convenient bases for exploring this coastal region. Lake Harmony RV Park offers 53 full hookup sites with both 30 and 50 amp service, operating year-round with big-rig friendly accommodations. Just south in Darien, Inland Harbor RV Park features spacious sites on a high bluff overlooking the Altamaha River Basin with 50/30 amp electrical, water and sewer connections. "Conveniently located at exit 49 just off I95 right near Darien, Inland Harbor will impress you on a few fronts besides the immediacy of on/off access to this major highway artery," notes one RV camper. Legacy RV Resort provides 73 sites with full hookups including 50 amp service, while McIntosh Lake RV Park in Townsend offers big-rig friendly sites with water, electric, and sewer connections.

Access to these RV campgrounds typically requires driving from the mainland, as Sapelo Island itself is accessible only by ferry. Most parks in the region are pet-friendly with designated areas for dogs, though policies vary by location. Cell service is generally strong throughout the coastal Georgia area, with one traveler reporting "T-Mobile and AT&T signals with 3-5 bars" at nearby campgrounds. Dump stations are available at select parks, though not all facilities offer this amenity on-site. Propane refill services can be found at several locations, including Lake Harmony RV Park. The proximity to I-95 makes these RV parks convenient stopover points for travelers heading north or south along the Atlantic coast, while still providing access to coastal attractions. Reservations are recommended, especially during peak tourist seasons from spring through fall.

    Inland Harbor RV Park

I Know We’re Inland, But Where’s the Harbor@ Inland Harbor?!

Conveniently located at exit 49 just off I95 right near Darien, Inland Harbor will impress you on a few fronts besides the immediacy of on / off access to this major highway artery. This is a gated RV resort, so the place gets extra points for its extreme level of security (and being right next to a major highway, this isn’t a bad thing).

The grounds themselves are very well groomed and organized. The management (which is new, mind you) has a hands-free check-in approach that at first seems weird (go to your spot and pick up the packet), but then you get it – they’re just being extra cautious and mindful because of Covid.

With more or less 40-50 RV parking spaces, Inland Harbor sets up on a high bluff overlooking the scenic Altamaha River Basin adjacent to Cathead Creek. This place boasts great Southern hospitality (and delivers), full-service laundry and some of the cleanest bathrooms and showers I’ve come across in all of Georgia. I will add that Shane and April, the resident managers, are wonderful and incredibly friendly and accommodating.

There’s a solid amount of historic places nearby to check-out on top of the golden Georgia beaches you’ll find on St. Simmons and Jeckyll Islands and plenty of fishing and golf in any direction.

From an amenities standpoint, this park offers all the standards– 50/ 30 amp electrical, water and sewage hook-ups. There’s cable and WiFi. Each site has a paved platform/ drive complete with picnic table and running water. Inland Harbor is pet-friendly, so bring your furry buds! There’s even a new pavilion with both heat and A/C. On top of everything, there’s a Waffle House literally located right across the street! Could life get any better?!

    Happy Camping!

    Skidaway Island State Park Campground

    Lots of options

I stayed in a back in site in camping area 2. I would call it big rig challenging w/the narrow road and tight-ish back in. I enjoyed the trails & observation tower as well as the cute little shop where you check in. My friend joined me over the weekend & her kids really liked the All About Bats presentation & the playground. Lots of deer & other wildlife to be seen. Shaded sites & mine was full hookup. Pet friendly & the laundry facility takes credit cards. They ended up renting a yurt which was cool. There are also cabins but we didn’t see those.

    Coastal GA RV Resort

    Multi Family Meet Up

My mom booked a spot here for Nov-Feb and me, my husband and son (7) joined her on multiple occasions. She has a fifth wheel, we have a toterhome. The park welcomed and accommodated both well. The location is not fancy, but the park has adequate and clean facilities including; 3 bath houses, 3 laundry facilities, a dog park, clubhouse & pool. The park is conveniently located just minutes away from I-95, and is the perfect place for day adventures. We have taken day trips to; St Simon, Jekyll Island, Savannah, St Augustine, St Mary’s and Cumberland to name a few. There’s a Starbucks, Grocery, Dollar General, Auto Parts and many food options just around the corner. The store here carries a variety of RV and camping supplies and has a propane refill, as well. The staff here is very nice. The only notable missing amenities are a playground and no streaming on the park’s WiFi so make sure you have your own WiFi solution before you arrive. Our phone hotspots worked for tablets and laptop, but we had to get a T-Mobile portable WiFi for streaming. This park does not cater to small children per se, but has been a nice and super safe spot for multiple rigs and multiple families camping together. They even made sure to put us right across from mom each time we visited. All in all it’s a great place to spend a night or a few months. The Georgia coast is absolutely stunning and the people and food here are amazing! 10 out of 10 recommend adventuring in this area!

    Sunshine RV Park

Considering an extended stay to visit Savannah - consider Sunshine RV Park

First of all, Sunshine RV Park is VERY MUCH in business! We stayed here for a month during September 2024. What has happened… the original owner William L.“Bill” Bruner passed June 2022 and now his grandson Michael Bruner is running Sunshine RV Park LLC. We stayed here 20 yrs ago and much has changed and for the better. Sunshine RV Park now has about 70 level concrete RV sites. The RV sites are about 65 ft in length of which 50 ft is poured concrete with a concrete patio. We have a 45ft motorcoach and we fit on our site just fine. All of the sites have 50/30/15 amp electric, water(good tasting/good pressure) and sewer. No problems with electric voltage even in the hot Georgia summertime. And new concrete sites are being added at this time. Lots of area to add more RV sites. Michael is doing a great job as the new owner of Sunshine RV Park. Michael manages the RV park full-time and has help. Someone to cut grass/weed trimming around the RV sites and someone to pick up any trash and help maintain the RV Park. RV sites are being improved ongoing. We use T-Mobile and get a consistent 550-600 mbps down and 10-15 mbps up speeds. With T-Mobile we achieved 5GUC 2-3 bars the majority of the time at the RV Park. We also have a T-Mobile 4G hot spot and achieved speeds of 15-20 mpbs down and 5-15 mbps up. No problems streaming at all.

Sunshine RV Park is big rig friendly. No rocks to navigate around and no overhead tree limbs to worry about. Plenty of room between RV’s. All of the sites are back-in except one site which is pull-thru. Sunshine RV Park is pet friendly and has lots of grass for your pet. Just make sure to pick-up after your pet, keep them on a leash at all times and no disturbing of neighbors by your pet. All commonsense rules to live by. Now let me say this… Sunshine RV Park has mostly long-term contract area workers. Advance reservations are needed to stay at Sunshine RV Park. Rif-raff is not tolerated at all by the owner, and it is very quiet here after dusk. I would say that about 60 of the 70 sites are long-term RV’ers. This being said, if you are a traveler and are looking for someplace in the Savannah area to stay, consider Sunshine RV Park IF you want to stay for 1 to 4 weeks or more. You must have a self-contained RV– no tenters. No playground/swimming pool or other RV resort amenities here, but you are only 7 miles to the Savannah Historic District, a 7-minute drive to Kroger grocery and CVS/Walgreens or a 10-minute drive to a Wal-Mart Supercenter. Lots and lots of fantastic area restaurants to choose from that feature great southern-style cooking! Sunshine RV Park is a safe and quiet(an occasional jet flying overhead) place to park your RV as it’s in a residential area. On Sunshine Avenue is the Georgia Public Safety Training Center- a training complex for all Georgia state and local public safety agencies. The Garden City Public Library, the Police/Fire Dept/EMS are all less than a mile from the RV Park. The owner’s home is next to Sunshine RV Park, and he drives around the RV Park to ensure its safety. Amazon local delivery, Wal-Mart grocery local delivery, UPS and FedEx all serve Sunshine RV Park as we had deliveries from all four during our stay. There is a farmers’ market at Forsyth Park every Saturday year-round from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM featuring a variety of farm goods and prepared foods. We did encounter a minor problem with USPS mail. USPS does not deliver to this address unless you register with the Post Office prior to receiving postal mail. To have our USPS postal mail received, we used Post Office General Delivery Service and picked up our mail at the Savannah Post Office downtown. The Savannah Visitor Center on MLK is a great resource to help plan your area adventure. Savannah is a walking town. Savannah has squares and parks, and these are the community's most beloved icons. Originally designed with 24 squares, 22 remain today to be enjoyed by the millions who walk these grassy utopias every year. If I was to mention a negative, driving down Sunshine Ave. we did encounter some tree branches. No damage to our RV but do drive slowly. Sunshine Ave. is only a half-mile long street and the RV park is on the left side at the end of the street. The RV Park’s office has a large sign on it with the address and phone number of Sunshine RV Park. We truly enjoyed our 1 month stay here at Sunshine RV Park and absolutely enjoyed our visit to beautiful and historical Savannah, Georgia. We hope the information we have provided will help you plan your visit to Savannah.

Update- I had given a copy of our review of Sunshine RV Park to the owner about a week prior to a departure. Michael had read that I had commented on our encounter of some tree branches along Sunshine Ave. and trimmed them back nicely! Even trimming tree branches of private property owners who's homes border Sunshine Ave. IMO, this owner truly cares about this business.

    Happy Campers RV Park

    Quite, close to Ft. Stewart

Stayed there for 4 nights while bow hunting Ft. Stewart. It's only 15 minutes to the front gate. While we were there it seemed like a pretty quite place, even  on the weekend. Spaces are pretty close to each other and most of the park is permanent buildings which appear to be for long term residences.

We were not around during the day but at night it was plenty quite. No fire pit but we did have a picnic table. Parking was on a concrete pad next to the RV.

Cell signal was good on T-Mobile. I recorded download speeds of 57 Mbps and uploads of 1.79 Mbps.

All and all I'd stay there again the lady I spoke with to make the reservation was quite helpful and emailed a copy of the campground map with directions. We used Passport America so our rate was $24.50 per night. I'd stay there again and likely will on our next hunt.

    Fort McAllister State Park Campground

    Beautiful sunsets!

We are a big rig, a 44' fifth wheel and longer with a hydraulic motorcycle lift on the back.  We were able to fit into the state park.  In our two years of full-timing, it's the first time we've even tried.  Yes, some of the roads are tight, but I'm confident we'll be able to get out just as easily.

Staff was very friendly.  The gift shop has some really cute / neat stuff in it.  They even have a little museum to walk through (for a small cost), which we haven't done yet.  (Arrived about 4, closes at 5pm (at least on Sunday.))

Site has a firepit, and it's a large pull through(those side pull throughs off the main road). Great water pressure. AT&T connection, 68ms ping, 18.46 down, 5.81 up. Good enough for my work.

Highly recommend Fish Tales restaurant, which you'll pass on the way in.  There's a Publix just a few miles away for groceries.  Pretty good wine selection!  Even a small, but sufficient, liquor store next door.

    Blythe Island Regional Park

    Awesome place for families

Great little campground with full hook-ups, 30 amp & 50 amps sites, back in & pull through sites. Lots of wildlife everywhere and domestic rabbits all over the campground that they raise at the campground for the kids to feed & enjoy. It's very quiet, lots of trees and plenty of distance between sites. There's 3 bath house but the showers kind of suck but they have hot water and fairly clean

Guide to Sapelo Island

RV parks near Sapelo Island, Georgia offer camping options within a short drive of the coastal barrier island. Located along Georgia's coastal region where the elevation stays below 25 feet above sea level, the area experiences subtropical climate conditions with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Fall is considered the prime camping season with temperatures ranging from 65-80°F during the day and lower humidity than summer months.

What to do

Visit historical sites: Fort Pulaski National Monument sits about 30 minutes from Red Gate Farms - RV Resort, with Tybee Island just 10 minutes further. "Fort Pulaski is about 30 minutes away and Tybee Island is another 10 minutes. Skidaway Island State Park is on the way to the fort, and there's a campground on Tybee Island," notes Mary S.

Fishing opportunities: McIntosh Lake offers fishing access directly from the campground at Mcintosh Lake RV Park. "There are docks for fishing and swings by the lake to sit at and enjoy the view," reports Charity G. The spring-fed lake provides a peaceful setting for anglers of all skill levels.

Beach exploration: Jekyll Island and Cumberland Island provide natural coastal experiences within driving distance of Brunswick campgrounds. "On the nature side of things, I recommend either Jekyll Island or Cumberland Island where there's wild horse that run free on the beach head there," suggests a camper at Southern Retreat RV Park.

What campers like

Well-maintained facilities: GA Coastal RV Park receives praise for its cleanliness and upkeep despite being a newer facility. "Sites are a good size and well maintained. There's some traffic noise, but nothing excessive," writes Linda H., who found it ideal for short stays.

Lake views: Many sites at McIntosh Lake RV Park directly face the water. "Our campsite looked out onto a very pretty lake Mcintosh. The owners of this park are generous and gracious!" notes Sue B. The lakeside setting provides a scenic backdrop for camping experiences.

Proximity to attractions: Coastal GA RV Resort offers strategic positioning for exploring nearby islands. "Close to St. Simons, Brunswick, restaurants etc. Highly recommend," states Berg B. The resort's location proves beneficial for those wanting to visit multiple coastal destinations.

What you should know

Reservation timing: RV parks in coastal Georgia fill quickly during peak seasons, especially fall through spring. Most parks require advance bookings with some accepting reservations up to a year ahead.

Limited privacy: Site spacing varies significantly between parks. "If you want privacy between sites, this park is not for you. It is a pretty typical layout for a private park," mentions Sue B. about McIntosh Lake RV Park.

Highway noise: Several parks sit near interstate highways for convenient access but may experience traffic noise. "You can hear the interstate. A lot of misquotes at night in November," reports Sandy G. about Inland Harbor RV Park.

Payment options: Some parks have specific payment requirements. "Check-in was simple, pick up a packet and drop your check in the box. No cards accepted, cash or check only, no personal contact!" explains Charles P. about Inland Harbor RV Park.

Tips for camping with families

Pool access: Lake Harmony RV Park provides swimming options for families. "The campground had a small lake (pond) and there was a swimming area available which we did use. You could kayak in the lake and our site was right on the water so we were able to get kayak right from the site," shares Ashley W.

Recreation amenities: Look for parks with dedicated play areas. "The kids had so much fun playing volleyball, horse shoes, and tetherball. The July 4th fireworks show from the neighbors was extraordinary," writes Sharon M. about GA Coastal RV Park.

Beach proximity: For families wanting beach activities, consider distance to shorelines. "Short walk to the savannah river beach. A little longer walk to the ocean beach. 20 min drive to historic Savannah," explains Gregory Q. about River's End Campground.

Tips from RVers

Site accessibility: Several parks accommodate larger rigs but require careful navigation. "Easy to get our 41.5 ft rv in and out of," reports Ryan & Lorri R. about GA Coastal RV Park, which has relatively new infrastructure.

Hookup options: Legacy RV Resort provides comprehensive connections for RVers. With 73 sites featuring full hookups including 50-amp service, the resort caters to power-hungry modern RVs.

Cable and connectivity: Many parks offer entertainment options. "Wifi and cable. Decent rates. Well kept up. Clean laundry and bath which always means allot," reports Karen C. about McIntosh Lake RV Park, highlighting amenities important for extended stays.
