Roosevelt State Park offers historic cabins built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, including Cabin 1 which features a modern kitchen alongside rustic wood-burning stoves in both the living room and bedroom. "The cabin feels both rustic and has a modern kitchen, which is great for cooking a celebratory feast," notes one visitor. Sprewell Bluff Park cabins include refrigerators, microwaves, heating systems, and back porches overlooking scenic bluffs with sunset views. Cooking utensils, pots, pans, and dishes may not be provided at all locations. The town of Pine Mountain, approximately 15 minutes from FDR State Park, offers a grocery store for provisions. Trading posts or camp stores at some locations stock limited camping supplies, firewood, and basic food items. Franklin D Roosevelt State Park Campground

Great views, near Roosevelt's Little White House and Warm Springs

Green forest on Pine Mountain, this campground is well laid out and has history.  Several projects done by the CCC.  40 miles of trails to hike/bike.  A CCC built pond where you can rent paddle boats or bring your own kayak or canoe.  Equestrian trail rides (and stable rentals) are available.  Water/power, fire pit, picnic tables on gravel sites with some pull thru.  Satellite tv can be received at some sites.  Showers/bathrooms with laundry facility at each.  And several trails to walk you dog.

Life size statue of FDR on Dowdell's Knob, where FDR would come to relax and take in the view over King's Gap.

Grocery store available in the town of Pine Mountain (about 15 minutes from campground).

Great base for area sight seeing:

Roosevelt's Little White House State Park

Warm Springs (where Roosevelt would go for the warm springs)

        In Columbus, GA:

    National Infantry on Fort Benning

    National Civil War Navy Museum

    Coca Cola Space Museum

    Sprewell Bluff Park

    Cabins are simple but nice

Cabins have great views with a back porch over the bluffs (with a nice sunset vantage point). Bunk beds are fine (mattresses not that great) and plenty of space inside with extras that make them really convenient (fridge, microwave, good heating). There’s about a 6-mile loop trail overlooking the river that will provide a good workout. The recreation area down by the river is expansive enough for folks to spread out. Here in March it’s too chilly for swimming, but would likely be a nice escape in the summer. Would definitely return.

    Sprewell Bluff Park

    Small campground but pretty

Sprewell Bluff Park is about 50 miles south of Atlanta on the Flint River. The campground is small, tent & RV sites starting at $35/night with 30/50 amp electric, water, fire ring, and picnic tables. Most are back in. There is a showroom/bathroom. There are also cabins. The trading post has a variety of camping items and souvenirs. This is primarily a a fisherman’s Park. There is some canoeing and hiking, and a new playground. A boat ramp was added recently. It is somewhat difficult to get here.

    Great State park and camping

We were on site 213 and 214. Beautiful wooded site lots of space between sites in this loop. Very short walk to lake. Loop 1 sites are lake front and lake view but more close together than we like. Sites pretty level and gravel. Concrete picnic table, fire ring and light pole with lots of room fir our dogs. Bathroom facilities were very clean, with showers and laundry. Placed well around the campground. Playground but not opened at this time. Lots of hiking trails, pool, can rent canoes and paddle boats on the lake. Dog friendly. Close to Calloway Gardens and little town of Pine Mountain.

Staff is great and his campground allows campfires. Pet friendly with two dog parks. Great pool and has cabins and yurts to reserve. Less than three miles from Callaway Gardens and FDR Park. Town of Pine Mountain...two street lights...very quaint sidewalk shops! This place is a hidden treasure.

    Outdoor recreation happy place!

We stayed at FDR state park for 4 nights and it was a beautiful park with great hosts and great campsites! Bath houses were well-maintained and sites not on top of each other like some other places. They have horseback riding stables and kayaks for rent (but COVID is not allowing rentals). We took our kayaks and used them in Lake Delanor. Our campsite was #312 and it accommodated our 22 ft camper well, had an additional large tent pad, a fire ring and picnic table. We were located next to a group pavilion which we utilized when the rains came down. For dog owners like us, a big green grassy area was located behind our site to walk our 4-legged kids. Totally enjoyable experience and would love to return to backcountry camp and do some trails.

    Chattahoochee Bend State Park Campground

Cabins are definitely the highlight here!

The primitive sites (for tents) were a bit close and not as private as I like.

They offer platform camping and those sites seem a bit more secluded (and are in a separate area from the tent sites).

There are 4 cabins available to reserve and they have great amenities (running water, electricity)

We looked at them once there and think next time we will do this with the kids.

2 rangers live in the park full time and there is a large welcome center/ gift shop with basics for sale should you forget anything.

    Needs updates

Nice park, however needs some up dates. We visited during weekend, which is busy. Don’t want to complain, however “Barking Dogs” the whole time was a bit too much. That rule is not enforced by rangers. Not enough bathrooms, noticed yucky urine smells around campsites. (Peeing in the woods I suppose ). Sunday night-Monday morning, campground little more enjoyable, crowds and barking dogs vacated. However trash bins over flowing with mountain of trash.
WiFi unavailable and Antenna TV not available. Lots of shade, and pretty lake. Bathroom some what clean- one shower (?????). Our site not completely level, notice a lot of wash out gravel in other sites. For the price, I was disappointed with this park. It really could be a nice park with updates. Traveling in C Class.

Franklin D Roosevelt State Park Campground

    Wildflowers

This is where President Roosevelt came to relax. Warm Springs and Roosevelt's Little White House Historic Site is a short drive away. Calloway Gardens and a drive through animal park are all close by. The campground is nice with lots of trees so there is some privacy. There are 2 campground loops, and a small lake. Most are water and electric. There is s dump station. There is a horse stable, too. Dowdell's Knob where President Roosevelt sometimes picnicked at King’s Gap. There is still a picnic area there, with A life-size sculpture of the former president.

The Civilian Conservation Corps built many of the facilities during the Great Depression, including cottages and the Liberty Bell Swimming Pool which is spring fed.

Fishing along the Flint River: The river corridor offers bass, catfish and bream fishing opportunities from multiple access points. A visitor to Sprewell Bluff Park commented, "This is primarily a fisherman's Park. There is some canoeing and hiking, and a new playground. A boat ramp was added recently."

What campers like

Family-friendly amenities: Several parks offer playground equipment and organized activities for children. "My four kids and I had a blast at FDR state park. They have a lot of stuff to do there. We fished and swam, they also had a scavenger hunt that you kids loved doing," shares a camper from Franklin D Roosevelt State Park.

Clean facilities: Regularly maintained shower houses and restrooms are frequently mentioned in positive reviews. "The bathrooms were cleaner than my bathroom at home. The dogs loved the hiking and the river is beautiful with the fall colors," reports a visitor to Chattahoochee Bend State Park Campground.

Wildlife viewing: Early mornings and evenings offer opportunities to spot deer, armadillos and various bird species. "We saw all types of wild life, deer, boar, and a variety of birds," notes a camper at Military Park Fort Benning Uchee Creek Army Campground and Marina.

What you should know

Advance planning for holidays: Cabins book quickly during summer months, particularly around Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends. "We stayed during the 4th of July weekend, it wasn't crowded and was very peaceful. Fun trails, hiking and swimming," reports a Sprewell Bluff visitor.

Gate closure times: Some parks strictly enforce entrance gate closing times. "The gate is locked shut from 10 PM to 8 AM, no exceptions unless the elderly host personally deems your emergency worthy," warns a R. Shaefer Heard Campground visitor.

Varied bathroom conditions: Bathroom quality differs significantly between parks. "Bathhouse facilities were very clean, with showers and laundry. Placed well around the campground," notes a Franklin Roosevelt State Park visitor, while others report less satisfactory conditions at other locations.

Tips for camping with families

Look for elevated tent platforms: Some parks provide raised tent areas to keep gear dry. "The tent footprint is elevated by railroad ties, preventing flooding and it made it very convenient to put my boots on in the morning," explains a camper at Military Park Fort Benning Uchee Creek Army Campground.

Consider loop selection: Some campground loops offer better playground access and flatter terrain for bikes. "We camped in campground 5 and from where our site was we could see the playground and also let our kids ride there bikes around the circle that the camp sites where on," mentions a Franklin Roosevelt State Park visitor.

Check swimming options: Not all parks permit swimming in natural water areas. "Their pool and splash pad is nicer than most hotels. The site bathrooms/showers and laundry area are kept in very well condition," reports a visitor to Pine Mountain RV Resort.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Many parks have uneven sites requiring leveling blocks. "Sites are back in but easy back in. The bathhouse is clean, the sites are gravel and pretty much level," notes a visitor at Sprewell Bluff Park.

Electrical amperage limitations: Some parks have electrical systems that struggle with multiple appliances. "30 amp circuit was not adequate. The breaker continually tripped while using small kitchen appliances," reports a Pine Mountain RV Resort visitor.

Cell service variability: Reception quality varies significantly between parks and carriers. "Verizon was weak over most of the property talk and text ok but data not so much," shares a R. Shaefer Heard Campground visitor.
