Flying J off I-95 near Hastings is a road warrior’s pit stop that checks all the boxes. The lot is big, well-striped and easy to navigate, with the best parking found along the grassy edges – far enough from the diesel pumps to dodge the constant hum of idling engines, but close enough to make a beeline for coffee in the morning. The surface is mostly level and access couldn’t be easier thanks to the straight in-and-out ramps from nearby I95.
Inside, it’s classic Flying J comfort. A Denny’s keeps travelers fueled with all-hours blueberry pancakes or that midnight cheeseburger & fries you probably don’t need but will definitely eat. The convenience store is packed with road-trip essentials from motor oil to moon pies and restrooms are kept decently clean. Showers are available for the long-haul folks and bright lighting in the lot boosts the safety vibe – though light sleepers might wish for thicker curtains.
As for food beyond the Flying J walls, nearby Hastings leans small-town simple, but a quick hop into St. Augustine brings culinary 'gold.' The Floridian is a standout, offering Southern comfort dishes with a twist – shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes and hearty sandwiches that will make you wonder why you ever ate truck stop hot dogs. It’s the kind of place that makes a pit stop feel more like a planned detour.
