Boat-in access sets Bay Lake Camp apart from most campgrounds near Withlacoochee State Forest, placing it within the Richloam Wildlife Management Area section of Withlacoochee State Forest, managed by the Florida Forest Service. The site covers open and forested terrain with room to spread out. Reservations are available, pets are permitted, and campfires are allowed. Cell service is listed as available. During hunting season, the camp fills to capacity, and weekend nights can bring late vehicle traffic through the area, so timing a visit outside those windows makes for a quieter stay.
Description
The Florida Forest Service regulates camping and a fee is required. Hunt camps also require a permit for reserved camping. For more information and dates hunt camps are open to the public, telephone the Withlacoochee Visitor Center at 352-797-4140. Sale of available reserved hunt campsites begins the first Thursday after Labor Day. Camping is allowed at all campgrounds during general gun season and only at Pless Place campground during archery, wild hog-dog, small game and spring turkey seasons. A hunt camp reservation (permit) is required at all times, except a limited number of overnight campsites are available at Pless Place for a daily fee during the archery, general gun, wild hog-dog, small game and spring turkey seasons. When camping is allowed, only designated campsites may be used. Only tents, trailers, temporary shelters or self-propelled camping vehicles may be used for camping. Firewood may only be gathered to be burned in a designated area in a Florida Forest Service campground with a valid camping permit. Alcohol is allowed at hunt camps, but only for permitted campers and their guests. Link to map (J on right of map is the campground)
