Seriously high for what you get

I cannot believe what is charged for a patch of dirt and a table, and some vault toilets. Stayed here with a group to go explore surrounding 4x4 trails. There is a popular climbing area up the road, look for Bank Trail. Fishing is down the hill at Fourmile Creek. There is a lot of private property, so be aware. This is off Shelf Road which goes to Cripple Creek. You can take a loop of you feel like driving and go up to CC and then to Victor and take Phantom Canyon back down to Hwy 50.

Quiet, Even on 4th of July Weekend

RAV4 was able to make it up the road to the campground without any issue. The road is bumpy in places but definitely not bad. Wide enough to easily navigate around bigger bumps. Campground itself was great. B loop sites are very well spaced apart with trees and bushes that made it so you didn’t feel on top of your neighbor. B loop sites are also large— we had a pull through spot with just the car and there was a nice grassy area to pitch our 2 small tents. Walked A loop and they are definitely smaller sites and closer together, although there are bigger trees and more shade. Some B loop sites had more shade than others. B29 had very little shade. Pit toilets were clean. The site says it when you book, but there are no dumpsters and no water. Bring plenty of water and pack out your trash. A guy a few sites down from us left two huge trash bags, pizza boxes, and plastic bottles all over his site for the next people to clean up. Don’t be that guy. Overall great campground d and would definitely recommend.

Great spot

Love this place. Easily accessible by most any vehicle. It is a paid site but can be reserved online for a reasonable price. I paid 50$ for 6 days. Mostly quiet and pretty empty when we were there only a few other campers the first day. Very clean and well maintained bathrooms are pit toilets but extremely clean. no water on site so pack plenty. Feels very safe we set up camp and left our stuff while we explored during the week nothing was touched. No noise or disturbance during the night either. Nothing but fresh mountain and the smell of pine with amazing views of the night sky and beautiful mountain canyon landscapes to see during sunrise. Right off the shelf road/phantom canyon loop of the gold belt tour. Close enough to canon city (bout a 20 min drive) so easy to get gas and supplies at local Walmart. Only down side is no trash receptacle so pack lots of trash bags and leave camp cleaner than you found it. Hard part is finding where to take all the trash you pack out.

Was only about 1/4 full during July 4th Sunday night. Nice variety of sites, good views, and solid amenities.

Packed on Warm Weekends

It’s not that I didn’t like this campground, it’s that I just prefer more dispersed camping. The weekend that I went, it was very warm and this is a very popular spot with rock climbers. So I did anticipate that it was going to be very crowded but what I didn’t anticipate was that it would be hard to find a camp spot early on a Friday afternoon. That said, I was able to find a site and overall did enjoy my stay, even if I was privy to everyone’s conversations around me! A tip for anyone looking to visit this campground, starting March 2021, reservations are required for any site that is odd and any site that is even is on a first come first serve basis. Single sites are seven dollars a night and group sites are $14 a night. Ending this on a good note – the scenery around the banks is absolutely beautiful, and the bathrooms are clean and well stocked with toilet paper. I do recommend this site for anyone who is looking for a great place to climb, as long as you don’t mind being within feet of your neighbors!

Climbers choice

If you didn’t come here to climb be prepared to make some friends that climb. The site is about 100 yards from one of Colorado’s most sought after climbing destinations. The camp ground offers spacious group sites and individual ones, the group sites are much more privatized from the other sites on the campground. The views of southern Colorado are gorgeous, the facilities are on the newer side which was lovely. Cool 4x4 trails you can access along with a few hikes, but this is where you want to be if you’re looking to do some rock climbing
