Beautiful redwoods

Lovely narrow canyon with towering Redwoods. Most sites are in the forest including the river sites which generally appear to be worth the upgrade. Plenty of space between many sites but site location is important. Showers were okay.

Awesome, Beautiful Campground If You Get Good Neighbors

I lucked out and nabbed a site that someone had canceled at the last-minute, so I was able to stay among the majestic redwoods at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. My site was lovely, just a short walk from the bathrooms. In the evening, you could hear kids playing, a nearby group strumming on a guitar — all of the sounds you expect from a camping experience. Then my neighbors put up a giant big screen and proceeded to watch, while blaring the audio, "Finding Nemo" until late at night. After 10pm, I had to hike in the pitch black to find the camp host to get these people to stop. It seriously became my most awful camping experience — not because of the awesome campground, but because of the awful people. When I finally found the camp host (many host spots were empty and the hosts who were there ended up on the far side of the campground, which is very, very large), they opened their door and said "Camp site xx?" and said my camp site number. "We knew you were coming. We saw them setting that up earlier today." So the host drove me back to my site and dropped me near the bathroom so the neighbors would think the host was just cruising around checking on things. (That was nice of the host, really. It had taken a 20 minutes of walking to find him.) The people did finally shut down their movie operation. The next morning, they headed out on the hiking trails with their boom box blaring music.

So I'd definitely stay here again and hope for a better neighbor experience. I also hope the park is able to get more hosts to take on that volunteer role.

Excellent Camping in Big Sur

The site was beautiful, with many nice trails scattered about within the park. The lodge is not too far in case of any purchasing needs. Besides our loud neighbors, I would say that my group had an excellent time.

Beautiful area, crowded

Be careful on which site you pick, although on line doesn't explain well. Mine was on a bad slope and no way to level. Very crowded. Wood laying around all over but you cant use it. They want you to spend $10 on their wood. Drought has killed all grass, so lots of dirt. Tight roads wouldn't recommend anything over 28ft, and forget a trailer. Nasty black flies.

Peaceful Hike and Bike Camping

With a stream running near the hike and bike camping area and tall trees offering a cool shade it is a wonderful reprieve from the outside world.  The campground features a nice restaurant and gift shop/store. The hike and section area has a convenient restroom and shower area, a sink for washing items, a bear box, and a water faucet.

Trial by toilet paper

Campsites are adequate, but close together. Showers and toilets are individual, but stayed dirty. Toilet paper became a premium as the day turned to night. No soap at all, but there was hot water. The location in relation to the sea is good, but I’ll stay somewhere else next time.

Lusciously shady, famously coastal plus a river and hot showers

This large state parks offers an array of campsites, from the heavily shaded redwood sites in the lower loops to the sunnier spots in the camp loops up river. A laundry room in the center of it all provides road-trippers opportunities to clean up as do hot showers throughout the park. The cool river flows year round, and a hike upstream provide swimming opportunities for those not afraid of doing a bit of rock scrambling or getting quite wet on their journey upstream. Friendly parks staff.

Embraced by Redwoods

Not sure if there is a bad tent camping site in this State park. All the site are in and around Redwoods – a perfect getaway for an individual, a couple, or the family. Sites close to bathrooms, include a firepit and table, plenty of room. Perfect for kids to explore – trees, streams, fields. Several excellent hikes in the immediate area – for all skill levels.

Beautiful and spacious

I was in awe just driving around the massive campgrounds trying to locate our reserved site. We stayed next to the river and falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of the river was just the ticket. Neighbors weren't too close and although we could hear the guitar and songs being sung around the campfire from our neighbors down the way, it just added to the ambiance. Camp host was very polite and friendly. Even though coin operated showers were located in the bathroom we didn't take advantage of them. The only way to access the park is from the north due to a landslide to the south but it didn't bother us. The drive in was right along the ocean! Just beautiful.

Perfect Family Camping

This was a fantastic campground for a family. Hikes within short walking distance and within bike or short car ride to general store and lodge. Coin showers and bathrooms were very clean. There is a laundry site (this was open) and second general store on premesis however it was not open for the season yet. Camp hosts were very nice and knowledgeable about area. Wood bundles were delivered directly to site. Tent site came with picnic table and large fire pit with grate. This made for an amazing first experience at Big Sur. Highly recommend.

Awesome

Can't go wrong camping here. Nice to be by the gorge but that's where all the people are. Other areas have the creek too and you can always find a semi close swimming hole. This place rules once you can get through the check in line! Awesome place for kids to explore.

Beautiful!!!

I love love love big sur! This is where I stayed during my bike trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Big Sur was definitely a challenge with all that hills but the scenery was so beautiful. Well worth it! It rained the night I stayed here. It came as a surprise because California was in a serious drought. And the one day the sky decided to open up was when I was staying in Big Sur. But it's okay. It was still fun and well worth it!

Beautiful, memorable, cool

This campground is one of our all-time favorites. Tent sites are far enough from the RV sites that they are quiet and peaceful. The river is lovely and cool. It's a super popular campground and yet the tent sites are situated such that it feels more spacious than crowded.

Anything in Big Sur is great

Honestly, camping in Big Sur is great no matter how you cut it. The hikes are amazing and the weather is moody and romantic. But really there is a special vibe here and that's something you just have to experience. The campground is well spread out along a creek and there is a lot of privacy and solitude to be had. That being said the campsites can be dark at times. I'm not sure they allow campfires at this time as there's a high fire danger in the area. This is a good home base for exploring all of Big Sur. You aren't on the coast and must drive or walk far to access it.

Rain couldn't get us down

This site is beautiful! The entrance is surrounded by these massive redwoods and just set the tone for the whole site. It did rain while we were there, but the trees provided a nice cover. One of my favorite parts though is that there are a tone of hiking trails on the grounds so you can spend all day exploring as well!

A must seen place in California

This campground is close to some of the most beautiful atractions in the area, close to hiking trails, Pfeiffer Beach, falls, convenient stores and fancy restaurants. Campsites are secluded, there are threes everywhere and you get the basic amenities. The only con is that is very very hard to book, as everyone wants to be there!

Great camping to explore an amazing place

This campground is located in a great area, some of the greatest hiking trails are nearby by foot or a short drive. Most campsites are shaded by trees and this trees offer some kind of division between sites. Pretty flat terrain covered with leaves. Fire ring, bathrooms are available. Totally recommend it, the only hard part is to book a spot!
