Meeks Bay

The Black Bear site is accessible and can accommodate up to 50 people. Brush Wolf, Little Wolf and Prairie Wolf sites can accommodate up to 25 people each.

Coyote Group Campground

## Overview

Loon Lake Campground is situated on the south shores of Loon Lake, and attracts many visitors with its variety of campsites and beautiful waterfront setting. Popular activities include boating, swimming, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and exploring off-road vehicle trails.

## Recreation

Anglers delight in fishing for rainbow and brown trout, while boaters head out for water skiing. Five picnic areas in the campground and a day-use area provide visitors with nice lake views.

Campsites come with picnic tables, grills, campfire rings and bear-proof food storage lockers. Firewood is sold on-site.

Silver Creek Campground is located on the Truckee River, off of Highway 89, between Truckee and Tahoe City. Visitors enjoy the area for its fishing and hiking opportunities, as well as its proximity to Lake Tahoe and Squaw Valley. This facility is operated and maintained by the Tahoe National Forest.

Fly-fishing for rainbow trout in the Truckee River is a popular activity. Campers also enjoy swimming and tubing. The surrounding area offers abundamt hiking and biking trails, including the Western States Trail, Five Lakes Trail, and Pacific Crest Trail.

Silver Creek-truckee

Fallen Leaf Campground is situated on the north shore of Fallen Leaf Lake and adjacent to Taylor Creek. The south shore of Lake Tahoe is less than a mile away. The campground features 206 sites that include six yurts and standard tent and RV sites. The campground is typically open from mid-May through mid-October. Fallen Leaf Lake is less crowded and not as well-known as Lake Tahoe, making this a great base camp for exploring the many sights and recreational activities in the area. It's a popular campground and tends to fill quickly. Recreation Both Fallen Leaf Lake and Lake Tahoe offer opportunities for non-motorized and motorized boating, tubing, waterskiing and windsurfing. Fishing is available at both lakes, but anglers generally have better luck at Lake Tahoe. Guests can swim in Fallen Leaf Lake, even though there are no designated swimming areas. The south shore of Lake Tahoe offers the Pope and Baldwin swim beaches. Hikers can access the 1-mile Moraine Trail from the campground. The Taylor Creek Visitor Center is directly across Highway 89 and has interpretive programs, guided walks on the Rainbow Trail and to the Stream Profile Chamber. The Glen Alpine and Mt. Tallac trailheads are nearby for excellent day hiking and backpacking in the Desolation Wilderness. The Pope-Baldwin bike path parallels Highway 89. Fallen Leaf Campground - South Lake Tahoe

Benson Hut is located just below the north face of Anderson Peak, 5.5 miles beyond the PCT trailhead on Donner Pass Road. Expect approximately 1,800′ of elevation gain. Prior experience in the backcountry is required for this trip as the route is long and treacherous, especially in bad weather. Expect bare ground and/or ice where wind has stripped snow from the ridge; beware of cornices on the east side. The hut is very difficult to reach but once in the vicinity, relatively easy to spot. Overnight parking may be arranged with Clair Tappaan Lodge or Sugar Bowl Ski Resort. Topo map: Norden 7-1/2′ quad.

The hut is nestled under the north face of Anderson Peak at 8,350′ and has extraordinary views to the east, north, and west. Use extra caution as surrounding slopes are steep, avalanches are frequent, and weather (when it worsens) can be very dangerous.

Once you have found camping in California’s Half Dome in Yosemite Valley, center yourself in Tuolumne Meadows, a more remote section of the park with its own collection of charming granite domes. Here's a secret: Instead of joining the crowds of day hikers on the meadow's most popular trails, follow the backpackers north on the famed John Muir Trail. The trail meanders through meadows, along a river below alpine peaks. And best of all, the first 8 miles of this trail out of Tuolumne are flat. Hike until you find a spot to watch the marmots, then return to your campsite. For more, backpack another 23 miles to Reds Meadow where you can catch a shuttle back up to Tuolumne.

## Overview

Goose Meadow Campground is located along the Truckee River adjacent to Highway 89, about half-way between Tahoe City and Truckee. Visitors enjoy the area for its fishing and hiking opportunities, as well as its proximity to Lake Tahoe and Squaw Valley. This facility is operated and maintained by the Tahoe National Forest.

## Recreation

Fly-fishing for rainbow trout in the Truckee River is a popular activity enjoyed by visitors to the campground. Campers also enjoy swimming and tubing. The surrounding area offers hiking and biking trails, including the Western States Trail, Five Lakes Trail, and Pacific Crest Trail.

## Facilities

The campground offers single-family campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided.

## Natural Features

The campground is situated on the banks of the Truckee River. A scenic forest of lodgepole pine and fir trees covers the area. 

## Nearby Attractions

Goose Meadow Campground is centrally located between the Prosser, Boca and Stampede reservoirs to the north, and Lake Tahoe and Squaw Valley to the south. A variety of outdoor recreational activities are available at each location. Truckee, 10 minutes north, offers all the amenities of a year round recreational mountain town including interstate highway connectivity, top notch restaurants, resorts and hotels, grocery stores, gas stations, shopping, and historic sites. Lake Tahoe is located 30 minutes south and offers excellent boating, kayaking, fishing, hiking and scenic driving opportunities, as well as dining, shopping and lodging options. Other recreational opportunities include Donner Camp Interpretive Trail, Overland Emigrant Commemorative Trail, Stampede Reservoir Recreation Area, Prosser Pits OHV area, and numerous hiking, mountain biking, and OHV trails.

Goose Meadows

The Granite Chief Wilderness was designated a Wilderness area in 1984 because of its pristine nature, natural beauty, and primitive, non-motorized recreational opportunities. Located on the west shore of beautiful Lake Tahoe, the Granite Chief Wilderness is managed by the Tahoe National Forest. This 25,680 acre wilderness offers beautiful valley meadows and spectacular 9000 foot granite peaks.
