What to do
**Hiking trails: Access trails ranging from easy to challenging at Crystal Lake Recreation Area, where multiple paths offer mountain views. "This campground is HUGE and many locations are rather secluded so unless you go on a holiday weekend you should have no problem finding space to bunk. Dog friendly and the cafe isn't cheap but I swear has the nicest people and the best cocoa. Bring your dirt bike and hit some of the trails, it's a definite must!"
Mini golf and water activities: Rancho Jurupa RV Park combines camping with family recreation options. "Great park for family camping. Fishing and a splash water park. This place has two campgrounds. Cottonwood and Lakeside. Cottonwood is the nicest of the two," notes one visitor. Another adds that the park includes "beautiful views all around Sunrise, Sunset and Night sky. Sights of all kinds of birds like hawks and herons. Water park and mini golf for kids."
Waterfall exploration: Short hikes lead to seasonal waterfalls at Bonita Ranch Campground, where cabin options provide a comfortable base for exploration. "A little gem hiding out in Lytle Creek! Easy access to a pretty trail right behind the campground. Very quiet and interspersed with long time stayers and temporary campers," explains one camper. Another visitor mentions that "Bonita falls are located fairly close unfortunately people suck and have managed to turn it into a tagging area but if you can see past that it's quite enjoyable."
What campers like
Large concrete pads: Rancho Jurupa Park offers substantial sites for those seeking space. "Great park. It may not seem nice when you are passing through town to get in, but once you enter the gates it's beautiful. Large concrete pads, easy backing in and hooking up. Lots of grass, great place to camp in groups."
Pool and recreation facilities: Family-friendly amenities make Newport Dunes RV Resort popular despite higher prices. "We stay here every year. They have activities for the kids like arts and crafts, an inflatable obstacle course or you can rent paddle boards or watch a movie on the beach. There are fantastic running/bike trails along the Back Bay. The campground is clean and right on the beach."
Mountain views: "We came on a Saturday afternoon, and even though 4 of the sections of camping were closed off - we found an AMAZING space in section D. It wasn't right next to the bathrooms, but the site was spaced out enough that we had plenty of privacy. It was right next to the trail head, too!" reports a visitor to Crystal Lake Recreation Area, adding "It was $17 per night, and was an easy & beautiful drive up the mountain."
