Mojave River Forks Regional Park

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Wind is a defining feature at Mojave River Forks Regional Park. Campers who visited in spring report sustained gusts and cold overnight temperatures, so layers and a well-staked tent are worth packing regardless of the forecast. The park sits near the Mojave River outside Hesperia, operated by San Bernardino County, and runs year-round with a wide range of site types from basic tent camping to full RV hookups with electric, water, and sewer.

The campground is large enough that sites feel spread out, and reviewers consistently note it stays clean and well-maintained. Shade is limited, particularly in the RV and trailer areas, which makes summer visits uncomfortable given the desert heat. Cell coverage is inconsistent: T-Mobile performs poorly, while Verizon and AT&T fare somewhat better. There is no camp host on site, which is worth knowing if noise becomes an issue. One reviewer mentioned a recurring group that plays amplified music late into the night.

Facilities hold up well. Hot showers are available, toilets are kept clean, and a dump station serves self-contained rigs. The campground fills on weekends and reservations are strongly advised. For informal exploration, campers can wander from the sites toward the river corridor, and the Pacific Crest Trail passes within a short drive. Hesperia Lake Park is another nearby option for campers who want a different setting in the same general area.

This campground works well for RV travelers wanting full hookups in a desert setting, and for tent campers comfortable with open, exposed terrain and variable conditions.

Basic, Clean Campground

We had a great overnight stay at this park. Two other campers were there, and we had no interactions other than waving. We arrived after hours, and the gate code was included in the reservation information. We will be adding this park back for future stays.

Nice camping place with bathrooms, shower, firepit and a charcoal grill.

Nice place to camp, weather is around 75 during the day and about 50 to 36 degrees cold through out the night. Has everything you'll need. Bathrooms are close by, showers HOT water available. Camping sites are too close together. Other than that it's great. Not many people this time a year. Had a great time. Would definitely come back.

Great desert location!

This was our first time going to this campground and we loved it! It was entirely sold out for both weekend nights, so plan ahead.

We found the campground to be very clean and well-maintained. The toilet facilities were also very clean and did not smell.

The campsites in the area where we were, were spacious and spread out. We liked very much not being on top of one another and appreciated how vast this campground is.

It was incredibly windy when we went in April 2021. In addition to the wind, it was very chilly in the evenings and through the night. Plan accordingly.

T-Mobile signal was poor and Verizon and AT&T cell signals were slightly better.

There are easy to make hikes - meaning not necessarily any specific trails at the campground, but there are plenty of places to explore and wander from the campground. I understand you can also drive a short distance to Trail head hikes which we did not do.

Another review here on The Dyrt states something about a burning man group. When I called the number for the campsite to inquire about this, I was told that there is a large group of people that come here regularly and do their ‘burning man thing’. We really didn’t notice much of a difference between this or any other campsites as far as people/activity other than they have a live DJ who played one night until 2 AM.!
Being that there is no camp host here, you may want to keep that in mind. Although we were in the other loop, we could hear the thumping of the base from their music throughout both evenings.

For a desert getaway, I would highly recommend trying this place out.

Desert Camping

This is a fairly nice place to camp. I would avoid camping here during the summer since it does get very hot. It is closed during the winter months, but you can still catch some cooler weather when it first opens during the season.

There is not much for shade in the areas for RV/Trailer camping.

Not much to do here other than hiking and kicking back. The Pacific Crest Trail passes nearby.

It is away from the populated cities, but not far from them. It still gives you a sense of seclusion.

There is water and electricity hookups, along with a dump station and separate tent camp spaces.
