Prescott National Forest Dispersed

Dispersed camping sites dot the forest roads throughout this section of Prescott National Forest, where campers set up among junipers and pines at elevations that offer cooler temperatures than the desert below. The forest service allows camping along designated routes, with sites scattered along roads that see regular traffic from other forest visitors. Most spots provide enough space between campers, though the more accessible locations near main routes fill up first during peak seasons.

Wildlife sightings occur regularly throughout the area, and several forest trails branch off from camping zones. Kristin P. notes the presence of "beautiful Junipers & Pines, lots of wildlife and nice camping spots spaced apart." Some trails feature semi-paved surfaces suitable for easier walking, while others follow more rugged terrain deeper into the forest. Water activities like fishing and kayaking are available at nearby lakes, though swimming is not permitted.

Cell coverage varies significantly by location, with T-Mobile and Sprint users experiencing particular challenges finding reliable signals. Many sites lack natural shade, requiring campers to bring their own shelter from sun exposure. The proximity to Prescott means resupply runs are manageable, and visitors can access sporting goods stores in town for fishing licenses and other gear. Campers seeking free camping around Prescott National Forest will find this area provides multiple options for self-sufficient camping among Arizona's high country forests.

Many campers appreciated the stunning natural beauty with pines, junipers, and abundant wildlife in well-spaced sites. Some noted road traffic and cell service challenges, but most found it perfect for hammock and tent camping.

Great view BUT....

Great view but there are a view cons to this spot and the ones around here for Tmobile/Sprint customers, coverage is near impossible to find. Also my particular spot, the only spot with even a limited signal has no shade at all, but most other spots are in better locations for getting out of the sun. The only other kind of negative is that the dispersed camping sites are along a road that sees a decent amount of traffic for the forest. You'll have cars passing your site every 20-30mins.

Lynx Lake Campground

This is amazing! Beautiful! Lots of wildlife. Trails that are easy for everyone to walk (semi paved)or rural more difficult. Fishing, kayaking, just no swimming. The store is so cute not always open (took a photo of the sign)if you go on Sunday get there early they run out of a few things, we didn't eat but might next time. Bottom of the hill (less than a quarter mile) is a mini mart, trader Joe's and down the road is a Walmart (so close, and that's where you can buy a fishing license). Seriously will be back!!
