Best Cabin Camping near Oro Valley, AZ

Cabins near Oro Valley range from basic to fully equipped accommodations with varying amenities. Tucson - Lazydays KOA offers furnished cabins with electricity, picnic tables, and proximity to resort amenities including swimming pools, hot tubs, and community fire pits. The Palisades Ranger Residence Cabin provides a more rustic experience with toilets, electricity, and drinking water but without shower facilities. Casita Catalina features indoor plumbing with toilets and showers but prohibits pets and open fires. "Very nice facilities. I stayed two nights... the full hookup site was private, had a small grassy area, a picnic table and a portable fire pit. The common areas were very nice including the several gas firepits with chairs," noted one visitor.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Most KOA-style cabins include basic furnishings like beds, tables, and chairs, with access to shared bathroom facilities and outdoor cooking options. El Pais Motel and Campgrounds offers cabins in a smaller, more intimate setting with access to full bathrooms and common areas. Many cabins require advance reservations, especially during winter months when snowbirds seek accommodations in the warmer Arizona climate. A camper commented about Palisades Ranger Residence: "The perfect place to beat the Tucson heat! Located in Mount Lemmon, you'll be nestled under the pine trees. Bird watching in this area is aplenty, as is stargazing."

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities vary widely - some offer only outdoor fire pits or grills, while others provide refrigerators and microwaves. Camp Saguaro provides cabins with access to dish washing stations and communal fire rings. Properties like Voyager RV Resort & Hotel maintain well-stocked on-site stores for basic provisions, though selection is limited. Cabin guests should check specific amenities before arrival as furnishing levels differ significantly between properties. Prince of Tucson RV Park and Rincon Country East RV Resort both offer cabin options within larger recreational facilities, providing access to additional amenities like pools and laundry facilities.

    Very nice facilities

I stayed two nights with a Class B Van and the full hookup site was private, had a small grassy are, a picnic table and a portable fire pit. The common areas were very nice including the several gas firepits with chairs for just a couple or larger group. I was a little disappointed with the bathhouse/restroom, but that is because I am picky. The important thing is that I would definitely stay there again.

    Tucson - Lazydays KOA

Not pretty but many amenities available

General: Large KOA campground laid out in typical RV style with no privacy/separation between sites. There is every imaginable kind of site here from tent sites (with water and electric) to back-in sites with water and electric to FHU sites, some with covered sites to sites with private pet areas or play structures. There are also cabins sprinkled throughout.

Site Quality: Most sites are gravel; some have grass. All are level. Amenities vary per site. Ours had a round table with four chairs (in lieu of a picnic table)

Bath/Shower: In okay condition but then I saw a sign that they were scheduled to be remodeled a few months after our stay.

Activities: There are so many offerings including two pools, a hot tub, a fitness center, corn hole, putting green, basketball, and bike/surrey rentals. Also a daily “schedule of fun” with daily classes including Zumba and yoga, arts and crafts, bingo, etc.

Other amenities: On-site restaurant (delivery to your camper available), laundry, little lending library, pet wash.

This campground is located in a less desirable part of Tucson with very few (if any) grocery stores, restaurants, etc. nearby. There is nothing scenic about the area and the campground is located on a busy street so you will hear road noise (and an occasional train). While we appreciated all the amenities, we prefer campgrounds with more privacy and scenery. This was a last-minute reservation when our plans changed and worked for an overnight stay.

    Justin's Diamond J RV Park

    Great Sky Views

Great views of the sky at night and very quiet but we were never able to get in touch with anyone from the office. Nice spacious sites but the common areas really need some love. There’s no pool which is a must have in Arizona’s heat. Great Verizon cell signal no WiFi, or could never get in touch with anyone to get a code.

    Great Time!

We just went camping here our first time last weekend and we had a great time! A very kid friendly campground, they had lots of things to keep you busy! 2 pools, a playground, game room, pickle ball courts, mini golf, RC car track, go-cart rentals, golf cart rentals, dog parks, activity’s for kids, you won’t be bored! Bathrooms/ showers were pretty clean and had a nice little store if you forgot stuff. 3 nice big propane fire pits by the entrance were perfect for roasting marshmallows. The BBQ Rush had great food if you don’t feel like cooking one night. Only $36 a night for a back in site with full hookups is a great deal! We had a blast and will definitely be back!

    Picacho-Tucson NW KOA

Great hosts - nice level sites

The Picacho/Tucson NW KOA was the first place we camped at when we purchased our Bunkhouse motorcycle tent trailer.  We wanted to stay close to home in case something didn't work on our camper.

The KOA is clean and the hosts were great.  The sites are well spaced but could be a little bigger for more privacy.  The sites are made of small gravel and very level.  No roots, rocks, stumps, etc.  There is a picnic table, water spigot, electrical hookup and BBQ grill at each site, in addition to a fire ring.  Bathrooms are clean and there is a small camp store.  There is a doggie run in the park as well as a pool and playground for the kids.

When we stayed, the new hosts had just purchased the KOA a few months earlier and they were working on improving it.  We stayed there in late 2019 (before COVID).

The only reason I gave this KOA 3 stars instead of 5 is because of the loud traffic noise from the freeway.  There is literally no peace or ability to sleep during the night (in a tent camper).  Perhaps in a solid sided RV, it would be great, but we didn't get a wink.  I even slept with earplugs in and I could still hear the noise.

I will not be returning to this KOA, but sure wish I could because it was really nice and clean.

    Tucson - Lazydays KOA

    Wonderful resort

This place is incredible. Huge gated property with many different site options. Each site offers a metal table with 4 chairs. Some have playgrounds, private doggy runs, a fireplace, a sky deck, a covered patio, and many other awesome options. There are 2 main community areas. The larger one by the front check in offers a BBQ restaurant, a pool with spa, gym, laundry, putt putt, pickleball court, basketball court, corn hole, playground, indoor rec room with games and pool and other outdoor games. There is also multiple events throughout each day, some for kids, some for family, and some for adults. The second area has a playground, 24 hour laundry, clean bathrooms, a dog wash, and a pool with a spa that is still a very decent size. There are also multiple dog parks and bathrooms throughout the park. Phone service for Verizon and ATT are not good, but they do offer wifi. Very quick check in and quiet neighborhood. Huge property so not all of the spots were filled during our time in May, so we had empty spaces surrounding us. The spaces are not tight at all and very easy to park in. They have curbside trash pickup 24/7, so all you have to do is leave your trash on the curb and you’re good to go! Overall wonderful stay and highly recommend!

    El Pais Motel and Campgrounds

    Funky & retro!

We love El Pais! So glad we found this hidden gem in Tucson. It’s a beautifully renovated Rv campground owned by a mother and daughter. Great communications, clear directions, easy arrival. Favorite parts:

    • full hookups
    • free chicken eggs from onsite chickens
    • communal fire pit every night
    • coffee every morning
    • free laundry & showers
    • pool and movies in the summer

Only cons are some road noise and close parking quarters, but the communal space makes up for it. We loved having a space to meet other travelers & share stories. We’ll be back!

Best Campsites for Snowbirds In Arizona

When spending time on the road many times you will find campsite after campsite that is welcoming but not quite like home away from home. But when you drive through Tucson, there is a mecca filled with winter bird campers and long term campers which create a home away from home.

With only tent sites available on the facility, we were fortunate to find a site, however when we arrived we were so excited by the facilities we extended our stay by a day.

Office staff immediately greeted us and let us know about the facilities, which happened to feature a mini golf course, an indoor events facility, 2 swimming pools and hot tubs, an indoor recreation area and multiple on camp fire chinineas. In addition there was a fishing pond and dog park area.

Each of the 4 campsites were considered to be regular campsites instead of upgrade sites but when we arrived it was the most delux sites we had encountered along the way.

Pad sites were large and the first to actually accommodate our large tent and the ground was u like any we had seen before at a site. The soft mulch was similar to that of a modern day playground and made for a much more comfortable sleep over the two days we were there.

In addition to the standard picnic table of most facilities, this campground offered a kitchen facility at each campsite including a large copper sink and food storage as well as electricity and overhead lighting in the pergola designed to allow shade from the harsh Arizona sun.

It was the closest thing to glamping we had encountered by far!

Then as an added bonus, fresh fruit trees abounded ready for the picking. The front desk informed us of the allowance to pick what you want as everything was in season! An amazing treat on the road!

We spent many hours at the pool facility, enjoyed amazing neighbors, used the wifi and even did a load of laundry while in Tucson. The facility really was like a home away from home on the road.

    🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰

If the scale went higher we would rank it more Bunnies. There were no real areas we could see for improvement. Staff was very accommodating, long term and short term residents of the facility were amazing and this was a desert oasis like no other!

    El Pais Motel and Campgrounds

    Small, funky and fun

Small campground (gravel lot) with motel. Back in spots only. Friendly staff, very fast internet, free laundry, and free free-range chicken eggs. We stayed 2 nights. There two normal full bathrooms, a kitchen, and a room to hang out in with a large TV. The place has lots of memorabilia. We happened to arrive on Easter and were given a free turkey dinner :). We will be back.

Guide to Oro Valley

Cabin accommodations near Oro Valley, Arizona range from rustic single-room shelters to fully equipped rental units. Located at an elevation of 2,350 feet within the Sonoran Desert, Oro Valley experiences mild winter temperatures between 65-75°F during peak cabin rental season. Summer cabin stays typically require advance planning as temperatures regularly exceed 100°F between June and September.

What to do

Hiking access from camp: The Palisades Ranger Residence Cabin provides direct access to Mount Lemmon trails. Located in the Santa Catalina Mountains, this cabin serves as a base camp for hikers seeking cooler temperatures. "The perfect place to beat the Tucson heat! Located in Mount Lemmon, you'll be nestled under the pine trees. Bird watching in this area is aplenty, as is stargazing," notes one visitor.

Visit nearby attractions: Camp Saguaro offers cabin options within 30 minutes of Picacho Peak State Park. "The hosts are lovely and the mercantile is adorable. The grounds are exceptionally well kept and everything is clean and tidy," reports a recent guest who appreciated the camp's strategic location.

Evening entertainment: Many cabin accommodations provide community activities after sunset. "The host makes free hot coffee every morning and plays a movie over the pool when it's dark out for everyone to watch," explains a camper who stayed at El Pais Motel and Campgrounds, which features both cabins and camping options.

What campers like

Fresh farm products: Multiple cabin properties offer access to local food. "Free chicken eggs from onsite chickens" was listed as a favorite feature by an El Pais guest who appreciated the unexpected amenity included with their cabin stay.

Community atmosphere: Tucson - Lazydays KOA maintains communal spaces where cabin guests can gather. "Your kids will never complain of boredom here. There is an unlimited amount of activities to keep them occupied. Laundry room and showers were clean," writes one visitor who stayed in the cabin section.

Well-maintained facilities: Cabin guests frequently mention the quality of common areas. "There is a community fire pit for campers to enjoy together or fire pits at each site to enjoy on your own. Showers, restroom, laundry, and water!" explains a Camp Saguaro visitor who appreciated having both private and social options.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most cabin rentals near Oro Valley require advance booking through specific platforms. For the Palisades Ranger Residence Cabin, "Make reservations via recreation.gov," advises a past visitor.

Pet policies vary widely: Cabin accommodations have different animal rules. While many welcome pets, others like Casita Catalina prohibit them entirely. "We have two dogs, but this koa had a dog park that i was able to take them to in order to get all of their energy out before the long car trip," explains a visitor to Prince of Tucson RV Park, which offers cabin rentals with pet-friendly policies.

Seasonal temperature extremes: Summer visitors should select cabins with cooling systems. "We stayed in July and it was 122 degrees," notes a Tucson - Lazydays KOA visitor who relied on their cabin's air conditioning during extreme heat.

Kitchen facilities vary: Some cabins provide cooking equipment while others offer only basic shelter. "There are hot showers, a pool, places to sit, roomy lots, and FREE laundry," reports an El Pais visitor, highlighting the shared facilities that complement their minimalist cabin.

Tips for camping with families

Look for cabin clusters: Rincon Country East RV Resort offers family-friendly cabin options with community features. "Beautiful grounds with kind staffing that are most helpful. Palm trees and flowers everywhere with great pool and hot tub that are kept spotlessly clean," explains a visitor who appreciated the landscaped environment.

Ask about entertainment options: Many cabin properties feature youth activities. "Your kids will never complain of boredom here. There is an unlimited amount of activities to keep them occupied," states a Lazydays KOA visitor about the daily recreation schedule.

Consider cabins near water features: Properties with pools provide relief from desert heat. "My son LOVED the swimming pool. Not a fancy resort, but a very kind, homey environment," reports a Prince of Tucson RV Park visitor who found the water feature essential for their family stay.

Tips from RVers

Check cabin parking availability: Most cabin areas have designated vehicle spaces. "For us it wasn't a big deal as we were in a 31' Minihome," explains a visitor to Justin's Diamond J RV Park who temporarily stayed in a cabin while waiting for RV accommodations.

Consider hybrid stays: Some travelers combine RV and cabin accommodations. "An interesting feature of the Park is that it has walking trails that lead to the Saguaro National Park, but the area around the RV Park is rich with the native plants of the area all on its own," notes a Diamond J visitor who appreciated the nature access from their cabin.

Look for utility hookups: Cabins on RV properties often include RV-style services. "Sites with outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, swings, patios... lots of activities for everyone. No exclusions on yr of RV or camper," explains a Lazydays KOA visitor describing the cabin area amenities.
