Hikers and wildlife watchers find access to forested terrain at Mount Trumbull Wilderness Area, managed by the Bureau of Land Management on Arizona's remote Strip. The established campground sits near lake waters, though specific amenities remain undetailed in available information. Pets are not permitted within the wilderness boundaries.
Campers should prepare for primitive conditions and bring all necessary supplies, as the nearest services lie in campgrounds around Supai over 25 miles away. The Mount Logan Wilderness Area - BLM offers another backcountry option just over seven miles southwest. Plan for self-sufficiency and check current access conditions before departing.
Description
This 7,880-acre wilderness lies 40 miles south of Colorado City, Arizona, just north of the Grand Canyon in Mohave County. Located at the southern end of the Uinkaret Plateau and part of the Uinkaret Mountains, Mt. Trumbull is a large, basalt-capped mesa with slopes dominated by pinyon pine and juniper trees interspersed with groves of aspen and Gambel oak. The summit or the plateau is covered with ponderosa pine. These vegetation communities provide homes for mule deer, wild turkey, and the Kaibab squirrel. Recreation opportunities include day hiking, watching and hunting wildlife, and photography.
