Best RV Parks & Resorts near Big Lake, AK

RV parks in the Big Lake area of Alaska range from full-service to basic accommodations. Forget Me Not RV Park offers thirty-amp hookups and allows pets, remaining open year-round with firewood available for purchase. Anchorage N KOA Journey in Palmer provides more extensive amenities with full hookups including fifty-amp service, water, sewer, and facilities for big rigs. Mountain View RV Park features thirty-amp electric, water, and sewer hookups with spaces separated by trees. Fox Run Lodge & RV Campground accommodates larger vehicles and provides electric service and water connections. "Sites are pretty close to each other but we had full hookups and stayed in a pull-thru spot," noted one visitor.

Several RV parks operate seasonally, with most closing between September and May. Susitna Landing Campground operates 69 sites with both thirty and fifty-amp electric service, offering boat access and shower facilities. Dump stations are available at Anchorage N KOA Journey and Mountain View RV Park, while Alaska R & R RV Park offers sanitary dump services but receives lower ratings from visitors. Pets are permitted at most locations, though Black Spruce RV Park is an exception. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the area, particularly at parks closer to Palmer and Wasilla. During summer months, advance reservations are advisable as one traveler mentioned: "Spaces are close to each other and I would not recommend spending my entire camping trip there, but they are a good option if you need something close."

The Springer RV Park & Campground

    Decent Campground

We followed our GPS without issue to the campground near the Palmer golf course and municipal airport. The turn into the CG was a little tight but manageable with our 40’ toy hauler and F450. Check-in was quick and friendly, and we proceeded to pull-through site 24 with FHUs (50/30 AMP). When we made our reservations online, they asked for the exact length of both our RV and tow vehicle. We were definitely assigned one of their longer pull-throughs, as we could center our rig on the pad for the utilities—well-placed near the middle—while still dropping our patio and parking our truck on either side. The sites were very close together, with only a slender strip of grass and a picnic table between them. Water pressure was steady around 45 PSI. We got 2 bars on Verizon and 1 workable bar on T-Mobile. Because of the close spacing and perimeter trees, we placed Starlink on the roof and had a good connection, though many RVers set theirs on the ground. The campground WiFi worked well for browsing, with speeds of 8.69 Mbps. The laundry room was a standout: two washers and two dryers,$5 per load (pay at the office), and they provided soap and dryer sheets—easily the best laundry deal we’ve seen to date. The large overflow/tent camping area doubled as a dog run, with additional space to walk pups around the property. In our opinion, the back-in sites offered better spacing and mountain views. We also enjoyed watching small planes and helicopters come and go from the nearby airport. Overall, this campground met our needs for our five day stay.

Wonderful place to stop off and catch your breath. Pavillion with fire pit, two grills si you dont have to unpack yours, and hammocks to laze away the day. Laundry and showers look like an old west town, too cute! Cabins for rent, playground for the kids and propane to restock. Open year round! Pet friendly and Wifi available. Super friendly staff.

    Anchorage N KOA Journey

    Great Family Park

We booked a one night stay here as a trial run with our brand new travel trailer. Our daughter loved it so much that she begged to stay another night. Luck was on our side as there was a last minute cancellation and we were able to extend our stay 1 more night. The park had helpful and friendly staff, clean bathrooms, a nice laundry facility, and even a playground with a communal pavilion for people to gather round together. We would stay here again. There was a bit of road noise from the nearby highway but our family wasn't bothered at all by it as we are used to living on a base with lots of jet noise. Pet friendly and Wi-Fi is available and free! Propane, water fill, and dump station are available at this park.

    Montana Creek Campground

Unexpected Reroute Turns into a Great Find

Our planned stop at Three Bears Trapper Creek Inn& RV Park was a bust—their large pull-throughs were closed due to sewer issues—but they recommended Montana Creek Campground about 20 miles south. We called, and they told us to come on in. Located just off the Parks Highway/AK-3, the friendly campground manager gave us a map of the dry-camping sites that were available, including a few in the tent section that could handle our 40’ fifth wheel and told us to pick a spot. We walked the grounds and chose back-in site 13 in the tent area, which was more than long enough for our rig and F450—we even got to put the back patio down. We needed to top off our water tank, but the spigot had weak pressure, so the fill took a while. Afterward, we backed up in the large parking lot and headed to our site. We had 2 bars LTE on Verizon and 1 bar roaming on T-Mobile. The site had a picnic table, fire pit, and a nice stand-up grill. The campsites on the north side have 30 AMP but no water. Toward the back of the campground are more wooded pull-through and back-in dry-camping sites—some well spaced with privacy from shrubbery—but this area isn’t tall-rig friendly. The campground filled up over the weekend with locals from the Anchorage area. The same office also registers campers for the Montana Creek Recreation Site across the street, which is essentially a back-in parking lot for smaller rigs. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay—especially with the chance to get in some fly fishing.

    Anchorage N KOA Journey

    Mixed Review

We followed the website instructions and took Fireweed Road off AK-3. Arriving early cost us a $20 fee, and check-in was unpleasant as the front desk person was snippy, didn’t recognize our confirmation for a deluxe site, and gave no amenities or rules briefing. We had asked if there was somewhere we could go park until check-in time, but didn't get a response. She just kept checking us in and charged us the $20 fee. We were assigned pull-through site 8 with FHUs and 50 AMP. Since we had reserved a deluxe site back in January, we expected enough length for our 40’ toy hauler and patio, but the pad was too short and forced us to park our F-450 diagonally and still no room to put the patio down. Utilities were placed in the middle of the pad with good water pressure, but the KOA Wi-Fi never connected despite repeated attempts. Starlink had a clear shot to the sky. The next day we spoke with the manager about our experience. She offered firewood as an apology, but then discovered they were out, so we asked for our $20 early-arrival fee back instead. She agreed, but the refund never came. The campground does have two small fenced dog areas. On departure day we had a slide issue that prevented us from leaving, and the manager was very accommodating, providing the number of a local RV tech who came out that day and moving us to back-in site K4 so we could stay another night for repairs. Mobile RV and Toyostove, 907-745-0468, gave us fast, reliable service. Site K4 was definitely a much better site with plenty of space for our size rig. In the end, our stay had both frustrations and positives, with poor check-in and site issues offset by a helpful manager when we ran into problems.

    Susitna Landing

    Friendly Homey Campground

Operated by JJS, Jennifer, James and Steve this is a wonderful campground for fishing and relaxing the weekend away. Open year round with great prices too. On the confluence of the Susitna and Kashwitna rivers is it a great launching off spot for fishing. A good mix of open sites overlooking the Susitna river on loop A, and also more private sites on loops B and C. Pet friendly with 5 new pet waste stations installed this year. Need a morning mocha, Jennifer makes the best!

    Forget Me Not RV Park

Nice for families but some noise from the highway

Nice place to take the kiddos. Right off the parks Hwy before the Big Lake turn off.

We chose #8 a beachfront site. #7 is wider for anyone trying to decide which one. There is a older swing set for smaller kids to play on and there are kayaks, canoes, & paddle boats for rent. A fire pit and wood table provided at each site.

You do hear noise from the Highway and it looks like there are some long term residents that were running their generators consistently.

Owner is very nice to work with and will bring you a wheel barrel of fire wood for $15.

    Anchorage N KOA Journey

    Best RV Park

Favorite place we stayed at out of all locations on our trip. Cleanliest, coziest, well-taken care of place. Bathrooms and showers were 10/10. Spots had space, grass, fire pits, full hook up and dump hook up. Staff was so accommodating! Firewood and other amenities available. Only downside is mosquitos weren’t the best so a lot of people stayed in their campers and the highway noise is noticeable but not terrible. Somewhat busier campground, seemed like a lot of long term campers. Really recommend!

What campers like

Mountain views: Mountain View RV Park lives up to its name with panoramic scenery. A reviewer noted, "The best sites are the farthest from the tree line so you can see the great mountain views." Another camper confirmed the appeal: "Like all RV Parks we've stayed in in AK, the sites don't have any privacy, but the scenery is lovely."

Riverside camping: Campers appreciate waterfront locations when visiting the Big Lake area. At Susitna Landing, one visitor mentioned it was "an amazing awakening" to camp with a site "right in front of the river."

Clean facilities: Several reviewers specifically mentioned cleanliness as a standout feature. At Susitna Landing, a camper observed, "From the moment you step into a clean office, the staff are very friendly and answer all my questions... I did see them cleaning [bathrooms] frequently."

One visitor to Anchorage N KOA Journey (formerly Big Bear) noted: "The only 2 reasons I gave it 4 ⭐️ is because half the washers are out of order leaving only 3 working and the sites are close together."
