Thousand Trails Hidden Cove offers full hookup RV sites on the shores of Lewis Smith Lake, with both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service available throughout the campground's sections. The park features spacious pull-through sites on gravel pads that require minimal leveling, particularly in the newer C-section which caters specifically to larger rigs. According to one visitor, "This is a spacious campground and easy to navigate even with a big rig. Loop C is newer than A & B loops." Bama Campground & RV Park provides 28 established sites with water, electric, and sewer connections in a more wooded setting, while Togetherness Works RV Park accommodates big rigs with 50-amp service and offers laundry facilities uncommon at other parks in the area.

Cell service varies significantly between properties, with many visitors reporting weak or non-existent Verizon coverage at Hidden Cove. AT&T generally provides better connectivity throughout the region. Many campgrounds in the Arley area are situated on Lewis Smith Lake, offering boat ramps and water access, though lakefront sites are frequently occupied by seasonal or permanent residents. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, "You must check out the Natural Bridge nearby as well as the Houston jail. Sites were large and bathrooms were very clean." Dump stations are available at most parks, though winter travelers should note that some amenities like swimming pools operate seasonally. The nearest substantial shopping is approximately 45 minutes away in Cullman, where campers can find groceries and supplies.

      Quail Creek RV Resort

      Quiet and Peaceful

The campground is tucked back off the freeway and is very quiet and peaceful. It provides you a level space with picnic tables, concrete pads and fire rings. You can buy firewood and they have a bath house and laundry. It has excellent WIFI. The campground is on a golf course and has an Inn right on the course. There is a great playground and dog area. There are some long term campers here but it is clean and everyone was very friendly. Be careful driving here the road is very narrow and no shoulders. We met a school bus on the road and ended up having to go into the pit next to the road to avoid the bus that was in our lane😳.
I would definitely recommend this campground for families or people who are full time RVers!

Valley Fort RV Park & Storage

      Newer Campground

We called ahead the day of arrival and got a reservation for an overnight stay. We received an email with information and bath/laundry code along with instructions to proceed directly to pull-through site 36 with full hookups. There are various ways from I-65 to get to this campground (CG); we came in on I-565E to Mooresville Rd which provided straightforward big-rig friendly access with no tight turns. Our gravel pull-through site was mostly level, and other sites, especially those on the upper level, also appeared level. The park appears newer with functional gravel sites, some with small concrete patio areas, though sites can be somewhat close together and there is little shade. There was no picnic table nor fire pit at our site, which was fine for an overnighter. Water pressure was decent and we got 2 bars on Verizon and 2 bars on T-Mobile. Occupants were mainly full-timers and transient workers, but the park was quiet and decently maintained without appearing overly junky. A nice centrally located bathhouse and small but clean laundry facility are available. Highlights for us were the large fenced dog park, easy self-check-in process, convenient overnight layout for big rigs, and proximity to Buc-ee’s, making this a solid quick stop when traveling through the Athens area.

      StarStream Campground

      Decent Overnighter

This review was written as a short-stay versus destination campground. Our RV Life navigation and Waze took us off I-65 and about a mile to the campground, though both GPS units announced the destination as being on the right when the new campground entrance was actually on the left. Prior to arrival, we received an email directing us to go straight to back-in site B-1 with full hookups. With only 10 utility sites currently in service, maneuvering was easy, and the wide roadway along with the generous site opening made it simple to swing our 40-foot fifth wheel and F450 into position. The gravel pad was fairly level, as were the other sites, and utilities were centered and functioned well with water pressure around 60 psi. Sites were comfortably spaced, and our site included a nice paver patio with a picnic table. A convenient touch was trash pickup directly from the patio area. One of the owners, Joan, stopped by to make sure everything was satisfactory and mentioned additional parking areas at the front and back of the campground if needed, though we were able to park crosswise on our site without issue. There was currently no Wi-Fi, but the open layout with no obstructions made satellite connectivity easy. We had 3 bars on both Verizon and T-Mobile. The owners live in one of the cabins a few hundred yards from the campground, where a few dry camping sites are also located. There was no bathhouse or laundry facility at the time of our stay, though the owners indicated those amenities are planned. A nearby shooting range was active on the Sunday we visited, creating some daytime noise. Overall, we enjoyed the stay and would return.

      Corinth Recreation Area

      Perfectly Designed for RV Newbies!

Loved this park! It was our first trip in our new Travel Trailer and it couldn't have gone better. We stayed at Yellow Hammer site #9 easy pull through with plenty of room. Not only did all the sites have amazing scenery but the roads were well maintained. Full hookups and AT & T cellphone coverage good enough for working from Trailer. Verizon cellphone coverage didn't work here. Each site fully equipped with fire ring, picnic table, and lantern poles. Wood available for purchase from host.

Beach & Bath houses were closed due to COVID-19

We spent a lot of time walking with our kids on the trails and riding scooters around the campsite roads. Nature trails were extremely well kept with great views on the water

Best site is Yellow Hammer #17

      Joe Wheeler State Park Campground

      Joe Wheeler is open

Basically there are two sections to this park. The newer section is very big rig orientated. Having been rebuilt due to hurricane, wide roomy sites well spaced, but not a tree in site. All sites both old & new are full hook up. The older section is very, very tight and not a one very level. The older section is fully treed, which makes things even tighter.

Good ATT & Verizon cell service. No wifi in campgrounds Not my first choice, bu it worked.

      Thousand Trails Hidden Cove

      Bring your boat

This RV park is right on a lake, but a bit away from anything else. If you have any sort of boat, kayak, paddle board, bring it! There is hiking about an hour away at the Bankhead National Forest.

You can pick your spot when you arrive. I like that.

A and B sections are the original sections. C section is brand new with 50 amps hookup. All the big rigs there.

I was on C74 with a great backyard overlooking the hills.

Bathhouse is brand new and squeaky clean. You can see that almost no-one uses the campground shower because one of them doesn’t have a curtain to separate your dry clothes from the water. And neither of them have a caddy or any spot where you can put your soap.

Pool was not open when I was here in April which was a shame. It was hot enough. I would have enjoyed a swim, especially so we there is not much else to do. I don’t have a boat yet. 🙁

      A decent Thousand Trails campground.

I had no reception with Verizon but my AT&T hotspot had good reception.

      Rickwood Caverns State Park Campground

The cave is the star attraction

This is a very small campground- 13 improved sites (nine of these have 50 amp electric and can accommodate all sizes of rigs; four are designed for smaller units and have 30 amp electric) plus five primitive sites, which have communal water only (no electric). There is zero privacy/separation between the improved sites, which would make the unimproved sites possibly more appealing (but further from the restroom and it was pouring when we were there). Improved sites are gravel and include a BBQ, fire ring, and a very large picnic table. Rates are $16 for a primitive site/$29 for an improved site plus a $4.75 processing fee for the first night of your stay. Senior discounts are given.

The restrooms are functional and clean but basic. There was a leak in the roof from the pouring rain that could pose a slipping hazard.

There are a large picnic pavilion and two short hiking trails of about a mile each. We hiked the Fossil Mountain trail, which is very rocky. The main draw to this park is the cave. Tours are offered four times daily, January through November. If you camp, you receive a discount on the tour. The tour is worth doing.

      Brushy Lake Recreation Area

      Beautiful park

Currently there are 2 bathrooms with flush toilets and running water (1 nearest road has cold water showers), 3 covered pavilions with multiple concrete picnic tables. Sites are decently spaced with picnic tables near sites close to water, will need to form your own fire ring with stones. Boat ramp, dump station, and beautiful trees everywhere. There are water moccasins in this area so beware of them.

Park is currently making an RV area with pads and it is closed while they upgrade.

Free to camp there at time of review.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: At Thousand Trails Hidden Cove, location matters. "A and B sections are the original sections. C section is brand new with 50 amps hookup. All the big rigs there. I was on C74 with a great backyard overlooking the hills," advises Mara S.

Road considerations: Watch for challenging access roads to some rv sites near Arley. "Be careful driving here the road is very narrow and no shoulders. We met a school bus on the road and ended up having to go into the pit next to the road to avoid the bus that was in our lane," warns Alisa P. about Quail Creek RV Resort.

Leveling preparation: Some parks offer assistance with uneven sites. "Jr Beasely always carries extra lumber in his gator for leveling assistance. At 85 he is very spry and energetic," mentions Jerry W. about Togetherness Works RV Park, noting the owner's helpfulness with site setup.
