Barclay Lake

The Barclay Lake trailhead is accessed via Forest Road 6024 off Highway 2 near Baring, Washington. From Seattle, take Highway 2 east past the town of Skykomish, then follow signs to the trailhead. The access road can be rough in spots but is generally passable for passenger vehicles during summer months. Winter conditions may require snow travel equipment and experience. From the trailhead, the lake and camping area are reached via a moderate 2-mile hike with approximately 500 feet of elevation gain, making it accessible for most experience levels.

Camping at Barclay Lake is first-come, first-served with no reservation system in place. Since this is a popular hiking destination with limited camping spots, arriving early, especially on weekends or during summer months, is recommended to secure a site. A Northwest Forest Pass is required for parking at the trailhead. Always check current regulations with the U.S. Forest Service before your trip, as permit requirements can change.

Barclay Lake offers primitive backcountry camping with minimal facilities. The campground features several dispersed tent sites near the lake, suitable for small groups. There are no designated fire rings, picnic tables, or potable water available, so campers should come prepared with filtration systems and camp stoves. The area follows leave-no-trace principles, requiring visitors to pack out all trash. This location is best for experienced backcountry campers seeking a peaceful wilderness experience with stunning lake and mountain views.
