Mixed conifers and aspen trees line the dispersed sites along FR91, reached by turning off Highway 35 at the Wolf Creek Campground summit and following a forest road back into the primitive areas. This is free camping on Uinta National Forest land, with no developed infrastructure beyond toilets and picnic tables at select sites. Rock fire rings and on-site firewood are commonly found, and campfires are permitted.

The area draws a crowd in summer months despite its remote feel. Sites are spread across thousands of acres, which means even when the corridor fills up, there is room to find an uncrowded spot further in. Some sites sit on the rim with open sightlines toward the surrounding ridgeline. Cell service is unreliable. Biting flies have been reported as a significant nuisance during peak summer, so insect protection is worth packing. Water is not available at the primitive sites; the nearest sources are at the developed campgrounds, including Wolf Creek (UT) just to the east.

Navigation deserves attention before arriving. Phil L. warns that "map directions took us to private property," so relying on the written route via Highway 35 and FR91 is more reliable than GPS alone. The nearest resupply points are in Kamas or Tabiona, so campers should arrive with everything they need. Beautiful

Absolutely loved this spot. Gorgeous. The spots are very secluded. Didn’t even know people were camping near us until we went for a walk. Will definitely be back here.

Beautiful, Open, accessible

Come in on Hwy 35 to the summit and Wolf Creek Campground. Turn left into the grounds then left again to get to the road that leads to the FR91 which will take you back to the primitive areas. The sites are mixed in with pines and Aspen trees, some with great views out on the rim, and most with rock fire rings and plentiful firewood. This is off the beaten path a bit, but it still gets heavily used in the summer months, but there is thousands of acres to find a spot, and some sizable 5th wheels and Motorhomes are up there. Cell service is spotty, and there are no stores close by unless you travel down towards Kamas or Tabiona, so pack what you will need. Water also is only available at official campgrounds, although not as far as food still an inconvenience to fetch. The great thing about this area is your ability to explore, whether it be on foot, bike, ATV or car, there is something for everyone. Remember pack out what you pack in and leave it better than you found it. Enjoy.
