      Great park and friendly staff

When planning our visit, we were confused by something on the website, so I called to get clarification. The staff member that I spoke with was very friendly and answered all my questions. When we arrived, the staff member at the park was very friendly and accommodating. The site we had reserved had a next-door neighbor, but there were several empty sires without direct neighbors and she happily changed our site so we had more breathing room. This park has a big open field designated as the dog park and the RV park as a whole is very pet friendly. We were in site 17, which was a 50 amp site so we had to use an adapter for our 30 amp trailer. Hookups were conveniently located and included water, electric, and sewer. The site was a super level gravel pull through although they also had some back in spots and tent friendly spots. This park is right off the interstate but we really didn't notice the road noise. The bathroom and shower was clean and well kept. The town as a whole is small but cute and has a great city park. We didnt eat at the diner in town but were told by family that its a great place to eat. We were there for two nights and will definitely stop there again when we're in the area.

      Excellent facility for your money

Straight up. The ONLY thing stopping me from giving this place 5 stars is the lack of trees at the sites. If it were July, this place would be hot without shade. Full hookups, WiFi, Dog park close to town. Great staff. Just need more trees!

      Great small RV park

Wyatt was great! We we’re driving through Salt Lake on our way to Tucson and needed a stopover. Called at 8:30 saying we’d be there at 9:30, and he was happy to help us with a late arrival. HUGE dog park for the pups to play in. FREE washers and $.25 the dryer! Lots of cool antiques around the property. The wifi here is FREE and works great! There’s nothing fancy about the place, but fantastic hosts and useful amenities for a great price. Definitely recommend.

      Great for a stop over

Last night of a 2 week 4,700 mile trip and we needed a place for the night. Very nice woman got us in and the place was very clean and well maintained. The price was $40 for full hookup. So glad we found it and could relax a bit. Our dog liked the walking area and the black cat that wandered around. Not a destination spot but a great overnighter.

Smoky Mountain Campground — Castle Rocks State Park

Beautiful location on the edge of City of Rocks National Preserve

The relationship between City of Rocks National Preserve and Castle Rocks State Park is still not clear to me as this campground appears on the National Park Service website, although it is an Idaho State Park. That said, the park rangers seem to work cooperatively. This campground is delightful. Located about a 7-mile drive/walk to the entrance of City of Rocks, Smoky Mountain Campground is situated above the valley providing a wonderful view from many sites including space #19 where I parked my campervan.  I believe the walking distance to the reserve could be shorter by taking any of the hiking trails from the campgrounds rather than going along the paved roads which first go away from the City of Rocks then back up again, making a big "U".

During my one-night stay in February, water, showers and bathrooms in the campground were closed for the winter season. A very clean, pit toilet is located in the equestrian parking lot across from the campground entrance. The distance from the campsites to the bathroom will vary from quite close to about 1/4 mile max. And during the winter season, there won't be much competition for the spaces close to the bathroom, as I was the sole user during my time there.

In addition to the breathtaking views, the sites offer privacy from 3 sides though all face the loop access road. There are picnic tables, fire rings and electrical power. I did not note if water was available as it would have been shut off in February in any event.  There is a dump station about 1 mile down the road toward the exit. I do not know if it is open in the winter.

Check-in during the off-season is accomplished by envelope collected at the entrance or directly to the ranger who came by in the morning to check-in. The rate was $27 per night. Definitely worth the money to stay in this tranquil campground so close to the magnificent City of Rocks.

Smoky Mountain Campground — Castle Rocks State Park

      Great spot for climbers!!

Went down to go climbing.  Wasn't able to get the guidebook due to the visitor center closure (just as the COVID-19 stuff started) but was able to take a nice lap around the main spire and on-sight a few routes for us.  Camped at the main campground for the park (short drive from the climbing).  Campground was surprisingly full for mid-March so we set up the tent at one of the unused "equine sites" away from everybody else so that the dogs could roam a bit.  There is a $5 entry fee and a camping fee as well.  Would definitely go back.

Lake Cleveland Campground West Side — Sawtooth National Forest

      Amazing Lake with Views

The campsites are a little on the small side if you have more than one huge tent. We went with friends and got lucky with the last two spots being next to each other so we took them both. We have a huge tent and they had a big one as well. We had spot 26 and 27. The spots are first come first serve. We took a hike and got some amazing photos and had a blast fishing. There are rainbow trout and cutthroat in the lake. There is a bathroom but make sure you bring your own toilet paper. It’s also dog friendly and our dogs had a blast as well. It’s been our favorite camping destination so far. There is also cell phone reception which was surprising.

City of Rocks Camp and Climb

      Great option for EVs

The owner, Steve, is super accommodating and cool with charging your EV at the campsite. Electric and water taps are on even numbered sites and shared with the adjacent odd numbered site, so if your cord or hose is on the short side choose an even numbered site. No shade(yet) but great views of the surrounding hills. Close to everything, virtually no road noise. Dump station is a mile and a half away at the entrance to Smokey Mountain campground,$7 or an Idaho Park Pass sticker on your tow vehicle.

Limited amenities: Many dispersed sites lack facilities. "Nice large open area to camp outside the park, can get a bit windy as so open but much better than paying a lot for the campgrounds in city of rocks.
