Red Canyon

We snagged Campspot #2 which had direct access to the Canyon Rim Trail and its views of the Flaming Gorge. Only one other camper here at this time. Views would be 5 stars, but there is very little privacy to the sites, no water available and tiny toilets with minimal to no toilet paper. And yet, costs $34/night… there are other campgrounds nearby that we stopped at first to fill our water jugs.

First time here. The view up here is awesome. Sunrise and sunset awesome. The canyon and Flaming Gorge reservoir views awesome. You are approximately 1,700 ft above bottom of the gorge. We came up on a Sunday. Half the sites were available. Some sites are reservable and some are first come first serve. There are only 8 sites. Anything bigger than 20 ft RV may want to consider another campground. Water was out of commission during our visit and will be for 2025. One men’s and women’s vault toilet in campground. Tight fit with the door hitting the toilet when you open it. The visitor center has a nice mens and women’s vault toilet and is about a 5 minute walk. We saw Big Horn sheep at the visitor center and later walking along the road adjacent to the campground. The visitor center is a good place to stop by for views of the gorge and local information.

Had a great overnight here, wished I had time to spend a few more days. It was early season, water wasn’t on in the campground yet. There were only 2 campers in the campground. Easy access to the visitor center and rim trail.

Red Canyon dispersed camping: Great spot 25 min from Bryce Canyon for a night or two. It was super quiet. There were two spots closer to the road and a couple comments were made that it's noisy, we went a little further down the road and no noise, maybe three people passed by the entire time we were camping. Great views, pretty level. No cell service. We have star link. Could fit about any size RV as long as you are good with an unlevel dirt road.

Was able to let dog out to run around safely and without bothering anyone. BLM land so no major restrictions. Could run generator without issues

Closest to the visitor center and the main paved road. This cg is older than canyon rim cg and paved road is broken up potholes. Sites are smaller and more for tent and truck/van campers, but small TTs could find a spot or two maybe. Only 8 sites total and only #1;4-5 are FF. Update: Camp fees now $33/$16.50 senior as of May 2025.

This is an amazing campgrounds. Nice big spots. I camped in June and there was only 2 people using the campground. There is water hookups with outhouse style bathrooms and picnic tables. Amazing views of Flaming Gorge resivore.

We saw big horn sheep right by camp. The look out is within walking distance and it is close to the trailhead to the loop trail. Tent camping and RV this is a nice set up.

We stayed at the Red Canyon RV Park which had 2 tent sites. The tent sites were huge compared to other tent sites we have been to. There was a water faucet right by our site along with picnic tables and a firepit. We had an extra car and tent join us at no extra cost. View was great. The site is right by the highway though - we slept great with ear plugs in, but could be a little loud otherwise. The bathrooms were great too, and just a 15 min drive from Bryce Canyon.

We stay at the cabins at Red Canyon at least once a year, always in the wintertime when there are no crowds and everything is peaceful and covered in snow. The cabins that are available in the winter time are their "Ponderosa" units. They have two full beds, a separate living area, and minimally stocked kitchenette. They all have a cozy wood burning stove, with wood provided (extra in the antler covered shed behind the restaurant). There is a covered porch that looks out over a beautiful frozen pond, and in front of every cabin is a fire ring. They groom trails in the winter time for snowshowing and cross country skiing. Some folks even ice skate on the pond. There are no TV's or phones, so bring music and games :) The restaurant is only open on Friday and Saturday nights in the winter time, but has great food and huge windows where you can watch deer eat out of the bird feeders. You may even see a moose! The best part for us is that the cabins are dog friendly.
