Silver Springs State Park Campground sits within a forested section of Silver River State Park, about seven miles from downtown Ocala. The 59-site campground operates year-round with full hookups for RVs up to 50 feet, though campers note the entrance road curves around from the main park entrance rather than providing direct access to the famous glass-bottom boat area.
Sites here span two loops with generous spacing that consistently impresses visitors. B M. found site 53 particularly well-positioned, noting "the sites are nice sized and level" with easy trail access from behind many campsites. Pull-through options dominate the layout, with gravel pads that accommodate large rigs without difficulty. Live oak canopy provides variable shade coverage—some sites bask in full sun while others stay shaded throughout the day.
The Silver River creates the park's main draw, though paddlers must drive about a mile to reach the launch area at the main park entrance. Kayakers can paddle downstream from the headsprings to a river exit near the campground, though this requires hauling boats roughly one mile back to the parking area. Multiple hiking trails branch out from near the museum behind campsites, leading through the surrounding forest and connecting to a pioneer village exhibit. The museum itself operates only on weekends.
Bathhouses receive consistently positive mentions for cleanliness and include family shower rooms, plus coin-operated washers and dryers. Firewood sales operate through QR code scanners, and the campground hang tag provides free admission to the main Silver Springs attraction area. Kathy L. appreciated the "quiet, well spaced forested sites" during a February stay.
Florida residents get booking priority starting in January, with senior discounts available. For additional camping variety, campers can explore campgrounds near Ocala or consider The Springs RV Resort nearby for a more resort-style experience.
