Cave tours and river access bring campers to this National Park Service campground within walking distance of Mammoth Cave's visitor center. The 105-site facility sits in forested terrain near the Green River, accommodating everything from tent campers to RVs up to 40 feet with electric and sewer hookups available.
Reviewers consistently note the campground's well-maintained condition and proximity to park attractions. Heather T. found "bath houses were very clean" and appreciated that sites are level with good spacing. The facility operates with coin-operated showers at $1.50 for 4.5 minutes, located in the general store building along with laundry facilities. Several campers mention bringing quarters or small bills for the change machine.
Beyond the famous cave system, the park offers extensive hiking and biking trails accessible from the campground. Kayaking opportunities exist on the Green River, with outfitters providing upstream shuttles from the Green River Ferry area. The single-car automated ferry crossing adds novelty to reaching some trailheads and backcountry areas. Shelly S. notes "a good, waterproof map is key" for exploring the dispersed camping options throughout the park.
Road access can be challenging during wet conditions, with some reviewers mentioning rough approaches. The campground allows generators from 8 AM to 8 PM, though cell service remains limited throughout the park. Sites near the front offer more space but may experience more foot traffic to the visitor center and camp store.
For those exploring beyond this location, campgrounds around Mammoth Cave National Park provide additional options. Reserve cave tours well in advance, especially during peak season from March through September.
