River Crossing — Garner State Park

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Reservations are strongly recommended at River Crossing, one of several camping areas within Garner State Park in Concan, Texas, where sites run $22 to $30 per night and fill quickly, particularly on weekends and holidays. The campground sits in open terrain near the Frio River, with full hookups available, including electric, water, and sewer connections, making it a practical choice for RV campers. Drive-in access is straightforward, and multiple dump stations on-site keep departure lines moving quickly.

The Frio River is the main draw here. The water runs clear and cold, and campers consistently report spending full days swimming and relaxing along the shoreline. Jamie G. puts it plainly: "Many trails to hike and the river is cool and clear." Hiking trails to Old Baldy and two cave routes are well-marked and described by visitors as genuinely challenging. Day visitors arrive in large numbers, so expect crowds, especially near the water. Weekdays see noticeably fewer people.

Cell coverage is nearly nonexistent throughout the park, and the in-park general store carries supplies at premium prices. Showers and restrooms are available and have received consistent praise for cleanliness across multiple reviews. Nearby camping alternatives within the same park include Shady Meadows and Rio Frio, which may suit campers looking for a different site configuration or quieter setting. Book well in advance if a summer or holiday weekend is on the itinerary.

Great Campground for RV or Tent camping

Garner has pretty much anything you could need onsite. There’s a general store, restrooms, and plenty of trails for hiking, biking, or just exploring. It gets busy during holidays so expect neighbors and families with kids.

Great State Park

Clean and safe. Park patrol was clearly present which felt nice. Three or four dump stations made for a quick experience when leaving at the end of our stay. A lot of Day Users so expect large crowd of none overnight guests. Wi-Fi and cell phone coverage was all but non- existent. Had to drive to Park Headquarters to get Wi-Fi and that was spotty. Park store had plenty to offer but as you can imagine prices were a much inflated. Many trails to hike and the river is cool and clear.

Great Riverside Campground

This is a very popular and large state camp ground. The facilities are well maintained and the front office does a good job managing the large crowds. We camped here in March of 2019. The weather was perfect and a bit cool at night. The crowds go way down on the weekdays. So Sunday through Thursday is your best bet if you are look for some quite time. The river is the highlight at the park. The water is crystal clear and runs strong after the spring rains. We spent two days swimming and hanging out on the shoreline.

Garner State Park , November 2018

This park is great for families, so much to do here. We tent camped two nights here in November 2018 and loved it. The Frio river can be heard from most campsites providing a nice relaxing experience. There are many bathrooms with showers, all very clean. There are plenty of stores, a food truck, kayak and paddleboat rentals, mini golf, a laundromat, and great challenging hiking trails. We hiked to old baldy and to both caves, all trails were marked well.
