    Gulf Waters RV Resort

    Steps from the beach

Stayed here when a freak cold front came through complete with gale force winds. Although the internet service was effected, all other utilities remained online thankfully! As other reviews may have mentioned, this resort is comprised of privately owned lots, upgraded by the owners, and these are rented out when available. The site I stayed in was level, sewer 30/50 amp, water, and had a tiki hut with a wet sink, but I didn’t use the latter much because of the cold snap.

The resort sits in the middle of Mustang Island, so no walking to Padre or Port A. However, this makes it quiet and it is well cared for. I especially appreciated the beautiful mature palm trees, landscaping and the clean bath house with nice showers. There’s a laundry on site. $2 per load and the office has quarters. It’s quiet and friendly. If you stay 1 week or more, then there is a meter reading for the electric, on top of the rental fee.

The highlight for me was the proximity of this resort to the beach. Just a short walk to the boardwalk over the dunes and you’re there! Just beautiful. Very clean beach with portable potties available.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

    Overused and it shows it

    Pros:

    • Super friendly Park Headquarters personnel

l• Great aluminum floating fishing pier with a covered fish cleaning pavilion

    • Site aluminum picnic table on concert pad under a tree

    • Park entrance gate closed 10 pm to 7 am, but an access code was provided at check-in

    • Toilet/shower clean, but just worn out and desperately needing renovation

    • Great CCC-constructed pavilion

    • 3 bars AT&T cell service

    • Howling coyotes nightly

    Cons:

    • Overused park that desperately needs some infrastructure improvements

    • Unlevel side-to-side concert site parking pad was in poor condition and barely long enough for 28 ft trailer

    • Septic system cleanout pipe smack in the middle of our campsite causing a tripping hazard

    • Metal fire pit with cooking grate was overflowing with ash upon arrival

    • No vegetation between sites= no privacy from neighbors

    • Constant vehicle traffic through campground loop• Toilets were difficult to flush and clogged easily.

    • Toilet/shower building interior walls crumbling exposing the structure

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

Nice place for a weekend getaway!

Lake Corpus Christie is a beautiful place where you can camp and enjoy water activities but if you enjoy hiking this is not the place. Unfortunately, it lacks hiking trails. There are plenty of spacious campsites next to the water where you can enjoy laying in a hammock, campfires, and grilling but lacks privacy. Catfish Cove offers water only sites but other areas offer water electricity, full hook-up sites, or enclosed shelters with AC. While we enjoyed camping here there is an over abundance of stickers that we had to continually pull out of the dogs paws.

    Goose Island State Park Campground

Quieter & Private in the Wooded Area

The wooded area camping loops wind through lovely groves of Texas Live Oak, and Loblolly Pine, which make great habitat for winter warblers. The sites are spacious and set reasonably apart from each other to offer some privacy. Most campsites offer water and electricity. These sites are MUCH quieter than the Bayfront sites, which are plagued by loud boat engine traffic.  This area is much for secluded, thus not alot of walk/drive by traffic going through.

The bathroom building with internal hot-water shower stalls was relatively clean and updated. The area is great for all kinds of low-key activities like fishing, biking, walking, paddling etc. I wouldn’t go here if I had my heart set on swimming, though. The water is relatively shallow and in the middle of a massive oyster colony, pretty sharp edges on those bi-valves, so be careful.

One of the best activities, especially during the winter months, is birding. The area is the winter home to the endangered Whooping Cranes, Sandhill Cranes, Spoonbills and many, many more. Grab your binoculars and your birding guide!

    Goose Island State Park Campground

    LOVED this campground

I’ve been to about 10 different campgrounds this year on several different states. Goose island state park is by far the best. This time we stayed in the wooded area. I didn’t think I would like it (I loved the waterfront sites) but I loved it. The sites are a good distance apart and have new paved driveways that are very level. There is a pole for hanging lightning and a campfire pit. There is electricity and water. We are in site 115 and I have cell service which makes me very happy. I don’t think the site numbers 200’s have cell service as they are father in. It’s quiet and dark at night. The site has woods and trees behind so it’s very private. It can hold a pretty big rig. Ours is only 26 ft but it can hold much bigger. This site is fabulous. The weather is great and there are tons of things to do in the area. Book it! We are coming back.

    Gulf Waters RV Resort

    Beautiful Place

It's a great place to stay !!! Staff is nice and very helpful. Showers are clean. Every lot is different and some are very unique !!! I would venture to say that they all have different owners and some are for sale. The best part is the short walk or golf cart ride to the beach and ocean!!! Now for the downside of this place that we have found ! Mosquitoes in the evenings and mornings are intense especially around the ponds and grassy areas. So if you have pets be prepared to get eaten !!! The pet areas are close to the ponds and are small to say the least !!! The pet areas are scattered around the camp sites. Some are close to some of the campers. There are two vacant lots on the very Eastside of the property that are ok. The problem with these are that they have stickers (sand burrs)and if you have small hairy dogs it could be a horrible experience for your pet!!!

There are some full time owners/ residents/ guests. We have found a mix of campers. From the $30 k to the over $500 k plus crowd. Some people are friendly and some are not!!!! There is a private vibe to most of the crowd we feel!!!

You can also rent golf carts and drive them to Port A. You will have to drive them on the beach if you want to go to town on them. They are not allowed on the Highway !!

These are just our opinions and what we have experienced !! Have a great camping experience!!! That is all!!!

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

Lake Corpus Christi state park June-2020

While the lake is beautiful, the park feels neglected. Our campsite #64 in the catfish cove campground was awful, not sure when they had last mowed, there were stickers/cockle burrs everywhere. We spent time pulling as many of those and high grass as we could, but still got them all in our shoes and socks. The shelter over the picnic table had many bird nests and the picnic table was nasty. The bathrooms were ok, the shower curtains had mold/mildew. We hiked the catfish point trail which had not been maintained. We went through the online process to rent a kayak, had some problems which were easily resolved.

Guide to Robstown

Lake Corpus Christi State Park offers camping options 23 miles northwest of Robstown, Texas. The park provides water-based recreation on its 21,000-acre reservoir with average temperatures ranging from 50°F in winter to 95°F in summer. Full hookup RV sites cost $25 nightly while tent sites run $10, with most camping areas featuring concrete pads and shade trees.

What to do

Fishing from shore or pier: Lake Corpus Christi State Park features an aluminum floating fishing pier with a covered fish cleaning pavilion. "Not too much hiking here, but you can also walk the roads. Beautiful CCC building. Saw turtles near it in the lake," notes Emily M., who visited the park as an alternative to beach camping.

Wildlife viewing: Goose Island State Park Campground, located approximately 45 miles from Robstown near Rockport, offers prime bird watching opportunities. "Right next to wildlife refuge, convenient to lots of beaches. Visited in winter for birding... Amazing sunrises. Make sure to see 'The Big Tree' which is a short drive/bike ride away," reports Harry H.

Water activities: When water levels permit, visitors can swim, fish, and boat at Lake Corpus Christi. "Very large spacious campsite. Restroom and shower located very close by. Camped site 60/61. Beautiful grounds. Lake walking distance," writes Chris S. about their experience at the park.

What campers like

Private wooded sites: At Goose Island State Park Campground, the wooded camping area provides seclusion from neighboring campers. "We really enjoyed staying in the wooded area of the park. Most spaces are very private because of the thick plant life. The beach spots looked cool but we didn't want the noise from the boats as mentioned in other posts," notes Katie B.

Affordable rates: Lake Corpus Christi State Park offers budget-friendly camping near Robstown. "Only $25 for full hookups, $15 for just water and electric, $10 for tents, $5 day fee. Lots of shade, lots of room in the FCU sites," explains Michael M. about the park's cost-effective options.

Beach proximity: Gulf Waters RV Resort in Port Aransas provides luxury glamping options with easy beach access. "The highlight for me was the proximity of this resort to the beach. Just a short walk to the boardwalk over the dunes and you're there! Just beautiful. Very clean beach with portable potties available," writes Susan L.

What you should know

Water level variations: Lake Corpus Christi can experience significant fluctuations in water level that affect activities. "Water is really low so no boat access, still beaches though. Surprisingly nice place," notes Michael M. Another camper, Andrea F., adds: "The lake is sometimes completely dry, but when there is water, it is quite expansive."

Airport noise concerns: Wilderness Oaks RV Resort in Rockport, which offers glamping yurts near Robstown, has some noise issues. "It is a Airport near here, and they take off every 3 to 5 minutes! If that is not enough, than you have the major Hiway next to you!" reports Ioan P.

Maintenance differences: Facilities vary in condition across the region. "Overused park that desperately needs some infrastructure improvements. Unlevel side-to-side concert site parking pad was in poor condition and barely long enough for 28 ft trailer," notes Napunani about Lake Corpus Christi State Park.

Tips for camping with families

Wildlife exploration activities: Lake Corpus Christi State Park offers opportunities to spot local wildlife. "We camped with 2 kids and a dog and had a great time. There was fishing and a lake some were swimming in. We searched for wildlife and made s'mores," shares Noelle S.

Beware of stickers: Watch for thorny plants that can cause problems for children and pets. "While we enjoyed camping here there is an over abundance of stickers that we had to continually pull out of the dogs paws," warns Kathleen B. about Lake Corpus Christi State Park.

Consider seasonal crowds: Plan your glamping in Robstown, Texas during off-peak times for more space. "Stayed in a cabin out here and although it was very busy, it still felt like you had a bit of privacy," notes one visitor about Lake Corpus Christi's cabins.

Tips from RVers

Select sites carefully: At Goose Island State Park, site selection matters based on your RV size. "While there are some low branches- I was able to carefully maneuver into #125 with my tall fifth wheel. But it was close," advises David N. Another camper warns: "Watch out for low tree branches if you're staying in the wooded areas. If you're staying in the wooden area, stay on the outer loop if you're a big rig."

Drainage considerations: When glamping near Robstown at certain RV parks, check about drainage after rain. "The campground wifi sucked. We relied more on our own Verizon wifi hotspot. RV park, especially on eastern half, has seriously poor drainage. We were trapped in our RV lot, unable to leave, because the water was too deep," reports Rachel H. about Wilderness Oaks.

Connectivity options: Cell service and TV reception vary by campground. "I have T-Mobile, and the cell service at Goose Island was great. 5G was great. Also, the digital TV signal was excellent," notes Red S.
