Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Laredo, TX

Lake Casa Blanca International State Park Campground near Laredo allows pets throughout its waterfront camping areas. The park features well-spaced campsites that overlook the lake with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer connections for RV campers. Both tent and RV camping options accommodate pet owners, with covered picnic tables at each site providing shade for animals during hot Texas days. The campground maintains clean facilities with showers and a sanitary dump station. The rocky shoreline around the lake provides better walking conditions for dogs compared to high grass or sand areas. Campsites remain relatively private even when the park reaches capacity, allowing space for pets to settle comfortably.

Dog owners appreciate the park's hiking and biking trails that wind through areas rich with wildlife and seasonal wildflowers. The campground's location offers a unique experience where campers feel secluded despite being near the city of Laredo. Pets must remain leashed throughout the park, especially considering local wildlife sightings including snakes native to the region. The lake provides recreational opportunities for families with pets, featuring fishing spots accessible from the shoreline where many campers have success catching catfish. During warmer months, early morning walks with dogs are recommended as the campsites lack significant tree coverage for shade. Alternative pet-friendly accommodations include Amigo Inn & RV Park in Zapata, which offers cabin options alongside traditional camping sites for travelers with pets.

Lake Casa Blanca International State Park Campground

Large sites with easy highway access

This state park provides a variety of sites, pull thru and back-in. Some with covered picnic tables. Great place for walking on the edge of Laredo. 5th wheel needed some leveling in a pull-thru site. Site was neatly maintained and camped during the week; park was fairly empty.

Lake Casa Blanca International State Park Campground

    Quiet and Fun!

Lake Casa Blanca is nice because you are surrounded by a bustling city but it feels as if you are deep in the woods. The lake is beautiful and it has a rocky shore area... better than high grass or sand especially with kidos. The park is pretty empty which allows for privacy. Bike trails are fun and fishing is good. Caught many catfish midday along the shore line. There are no shade trees which is a con but I’m not paying the electric bill :)

Pretty safe in my opinion and will be back again. Snakes were seen but Texas will have those no matter what park you go to.

Lake Casa Blanca International State Park Campground

    Nice Lake Views

This state park, like many in Texas, was easy to book online and was a deal with our state parks pass.  We had a site that was somewhat elevated above the lake which allowed us to have a nice view and great sunset.  The sites were well spaced out but not secluded. We didn't use the bathrooms as they were quite a distance from our site and we were self contained.  We did talk to other campers who said they loved the park and the lake and enjoyed the great fishing.

Lake Casa Blanca International State Park Campground

Green Jays flew through the campsite

Birding paradise. This was the first of the Texas State Parks I stayed in. I bought a state park pass which proved to be a good deal. Every employee I encountered in the state parks was helpful and friendly.

Lake Casa Blanca International State Park Campground

    Gorgeous Place!

Hands down one of my favorite places to visit. Lake Casa Blanca State Park is gorgeous, and great for the whole family! There is nothing better than camping, but also being by water. It is a win, win. This campground is actually very close to the border, which I think is kind of cool. The times I have stayed here, I have not gone into Mexico. Too much of a hassle to sit through customs. We bring our boat and water ski, tube, and wakeboard. There are tons of people out on the water, people jet skiing or stand up paddle boarding. We have also fished out here and have been lucky! The campground itself is really nice, and big. There is a pool, park, basketball and volleyball courts, baseball field, and playground for kids. There are also some really great hikes that my family and I enjoyed, as well as trails for mountain biking. The hiking was my favorite because of all the beautiful wildflowers. I took so many pictures during the hike of the flowers because they were beautiful. Campsites have hookups for water and electricity if you bring your RV. Overall, this place is one of my favorites to go to. There is so many outdoor activities to choose from, you won't be bored!

Lake Casa Blanca International State Park Campground

    Not bad but...

I like the park because it's local but I stayed a few weeks ago and was a bit disappointed. The park was booked to capacity (not a bad thing but I was hoping it would be empty), the tent pad for my site was overgrown with only just enough space for my small tent not covered in weeds, there was a tree growing over my fire pit so I couldn't use it safely, and the trail I tried was clearly not maintained. The views from the trail were really pretty though and I'll keep visiting for a weekend of rest, or to check out the other trails, either way.

Guide to Laredo

Located on a 1,680-acre reservoir near Laredo, this Texas state park offers year-round camping opportunities with peak seasons in spring and fall when temperatures moderate. The park remains relatively undiscovered compared to busier Texas destinations, creating an uncrowded experience even during holiday weekends.

What to do

Birding opportunities: Lake Casa Blanca provides habitat for numerous bird species including Green Jays. "Birding paradise. This was the first of the Texas State Parks I stayed in. I bought a state park pass which proved to be a good deal. Every employee I encountered in the state parks was helpful and friendly," notes Jenise P. from Lake Casa Blanca International State Park Campground.

Mountain biking trails: The park features several beginner-friendly bike paths suitable for casual riders. According to Al L., "Several beginners bike trails. Fishing and boating at the lake. Great family area with picnic tables and playground. Nice beach area. Extremely nice staff always willing to do more for you to enjoy your stay."

Water recreation: The lake supports various water activities accessible directly from the campground. "We bring our boat and water ski, tube, and wakeboard. There are tons of people out on the water, people jet skiing or stand up paddle boarding. We have also fished out here and have been lucky," shares Analia F.

What campers like

Peaceful atmosphere: Despite proximity to Laredo, the campground provides a sense of seclusion. "Lake Casa Blanca is nice because you are surrounded by a bustling city but it feels as if you are deep in the woods," explains Cole C. from Cotulla Fish Hatchery & RV Park, located about 75 miles north, offers similar tranquility where visitors can spot "deer, pigs, chickens and lots of fish," according to Tracy G.

Scenic lake views: Many campsites offer elevated positions overlooking the water. "We had a site that was somewhat elevated above the lake which allowed us to have a nice view and great sunset. The sites were well spaced out but not secluded," writes Marnie G.

Clean facilities: Campground maintenance receives positive feedback from visitors. At Amigo Inn & RV Park in nearby Zapata, Jason A. notes it offers "super clean laundry. Excellent helpful staff and best place in the area."

What you should know

Limited shade coverage: Most campsites lack significant tree canopy. "There are no shade trees which is a con but I'm not paying the electric bill," mentions Cole C., suggesting early morning activities during summer months.

Varying site conditions: Not all sites are equally maintained throughout the year. Eric S. from Four Seasons RV Park reports, "The tent pad for my site was overgrown with only just enough space for my small tent not covered in weeds, there was a tree growing over my fire pit so I couldn't use it safely."

Wildlife awareness: Campers should remain vigilant about local fauna. "Snakes were seen but Texas will have those no matter what park you go to," Cole C. points out, emphasizing standard wildlife precautions apply at dog friendly campgrounds near Laredo.

Tips for camping with families

Beach access: The rocky shoreline provides better footing than sand or grass areas. "The lake is beautiful and it has a rocky shore area... better than high grass or sand especially with kidos," Cole C. explains.

Recreation facilities: Beyond natural features, the park offers constructed play areas. "Great family area with picnic tables and playground. Nice beach area," notes Al L. from New Harbor Lodge & RV Park.

Holiday considerations: The campground can accommodate holiday stays with full amenities. "Stayed here for Christmas Eve. Beautiful campsites that overlook the lake. Not much to the local town. Would definitely stay again," reports Hannah B.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Some preparation may be needed depending on site selection. Sally N. mentions, "5th wheel needed some leveling in a pull-thru site. Site was neatly maintained and camped during the week; park was fairly empty."

Hookup availability: Most sites provide full connections for self-contained camping. "All sites have FHU. 6 sites are 30 Amp only all others are 50 amp," explains Tracy G. regarding options at pet-friendly RV campgrounds near Laredo.

Weekly rates: For extended stays, inquire about discount pricing. At Cotulla Fish Hatchery & RV Park, Tracy G. notes, "It is only 166.00 per week. If it had bathhouses, I would give it more stars."
