    Spring Lake RV Resort

    Nice and quiet little campground.

64 full hook-up with 30 and 50 amp electric on the sites. Site 1 only had a 30 amp and was the smallest in the campground. They had wifi and cable TV that was available. Sites were fairly level. I had to use 2 yellow flat blocks on site 1. Restrooms and showers were closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. We were told they were full but several sites remained empty during our stay. Would have liked to have had a lake side site or a larger level site. Owners were friendly as well as the guests. I believe they had some full-time living there too. I would go back.

Mountain Glen RV Park & Campground

    The Best of the Best!

Mountain Glen is a hidden gem! If you are traveling through eastern TN or just looking for a place to park your RV for a few weeks or longer of peaceful quiet then you have to stay here. I've stayed in RV parks across 38 states and never found cleaner bathrooms, friendlier customer service, or faster WiFi (and that's important since I work remotely!) than what Mountain Glen RV Park offers. They've also got great water pressure, easy pull-throughs, after-hour check-in options, and a convenient store in case you forgot some essentials. In addition to the great amenities, you'll be greeted by rolling scenic vistas of beautiful countryside, having fishing opportunities, pavilion or indoor meeting room to hang out with friends, playground for the kids, and pet friendly areas for your dogs to enjoy.

Mountain Glen is definitely a must-stay and the best of the best of all the RV parks and campgrounds I've ever stayed at!

    Spring Lake RV Resort

Our favorite RV park this trip

We were on an sudden, urgent trip with minimal pre-planning and no reservations. We contacted Spring Lake an hour before arrival and they were super helpful, providing a level overnight pull-through site reservation. We were arriving an hour after the office closed and they made arrangements to help us get settled. We were so appreciative of the consideration. Overall we felt the amenities and the setting were the nicest of this 1200 mile trip. Pretty, very well maintained. Level sites with picnic table and convenient hook-ups. The sites are built around a small lake. I suspect most of the leases are long-term. Friendly manager and friendly residents. We walked around the lake and found they had sitting areas and gazebos where you could relax during the day or at night. A couple of miles off the interstate so no road noise and very quiet at night. You can pick up fast food dinner on the way to the park.

Melton Hill Dam Campground — Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)

    Beautiful and peaceful

The campsite sits right beside the Tennessee river. There are 9 full hookup sites and many of the rest have power and water. Large river swimming area. Most sites are level with concrete tables, fire pits and grills. Bathrooms are clean and adequate. Bathrooms in the day use area are less so. Store is small with snacks, ice, drinks and ice cream. Staff very nice and RV’ers themselves. Family friendly. Pull through dump site. Love Truck Stop at entrance to I-40. $ rate and honors America Pass.

    Cumberland Mountain State Park Campground

Great for RVs, Ok for Tents

This campground is located within the Cumberland Mountain State Park. The sites are set up for RVs and it is very popular.

Pros: There is no camp store, but there are vending machines available. There are restrooms available. Staff is in the office during business hours. There are 2 short hiking trails (less than 1 mile in length each). There are playgrounds, a lake for fishing, and a golf course. Each site has parking for 1 vehicle, a large gravel pad, water and electric hookup, picnic table, and lantern hook.

Cons: site are very close together. Tents and RVs do not have separate loops. No camp store. No showers.

Overall, this campground is set up to cater more toward those with RVs than people camping in tents.

Pickett CCC Memorial State Park Campground

    OMG! O

We stayed for a few days and as a backpacker, the local hikes are some of the best I have ever seen! I would say most of the hikes are moderate, although some say easy. Grandma couldn’t leisurely walk, or scale some of the trails, so you have been warned. But for able bodied persons, the hikes are all doable. There are quite the variety of hike lengths to choose from, from short and squatty, to full day hikes. I’ll submit some of my favorite shots below. For RVs - I was towing a 21 ft trailer and my site at the bottom of the hill, which was away from other campers, but the grade was ridiculous! I had 6” of block height to level side to side! I heard other complaints from other longer tongue pullers as well, regarding the difficulty getting into their sites. Most of the sites are small, too close to other campers, or too close to the smell of the privies. But if you are hiking the area, I think the stay could be worth some of the hassle. There is a pull through dump station on the loop. There is electric and water. Tent campers - probably have plenty of room to spread out, some with power hookups and the convenience of showers at a central bathhouse. Daytime picnics - a beautifully large area to choose from and see. Lots of selections, all of them very well social distanced, family friendly and shaded with trees. Soooo much to see.

Guide to Crab Orchard

Campgrounds near Crab Orchard are located in Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau region at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 2,000 feet. Most rv campgrounds near Crab Orchard remain accessible year-round, though some seasonal closures occur during winter months.

What to do

Fishing access: Caney Creek RV Resort provides direct water access with boat docks and a fishing pier. "Seems to be a lot of permanent or seasonal campers here. Amenities are nice, there is a pool and pavilion, paved walking trails, shuffle board, basketball court, and boat docks and fishing pier," notes one visitor.

Kid-friendly amenities: Paradise on the Mountain RV Park features playground facilities for children. "This place is new and well taken care of. The kids playground is great. The bathhouse is amazing!! Rumor says there is possibly a splash pad coming soon," reports a camper.

What campers like

Cleanliness standards: Deer Run RV Resort maintains high standards for facilities. One camper states, "Very friendly owners of this campground. Well stocked fishing lake. Reasonably priced. Well taken care of. Level camp sites with plenty of room for larger campers."

Convenient highway access: Overnite RV Park provides easy interstate access without excessive noise. A reviewer explains, "Perfect for what their name implies. An overnight stay on your travels. Many of the rest campgrounds are right off the freeway with lot's of road noise. Overnite is 1 mile off I-75 and very quiet at night."

Pet accommodations: Several parks accommodate travelers with pets. Paradise on the Mountain RV Park offers dedicated pet areas according to one guest: "We are a week into a month long stay and I can't say enough great things about this park. There is a great dog trail and a fenced dog run. Close to the interstate, but not too noisy."

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Be prepared for potentially uneven sites at some facilities. A camper at Deer Run RV Resort reports, "We just stayed over night. Our site was very un-level and could not get the camper to auto level."

Seasonal facility closures: Some amenities close during winter months. A Deer Run visitor notes, "We were next to the lake and enjoyed the view. There was a close bath house, but they still had it closed for winter so it was a little drive to the other side of the lake to the other one."

Space constraints: Site dimensions vary significantly between campgrounds. Regarding Overnite RV Park, one camper advises, "I'd give this five stars if the sites were a little bigger. We had one hell of a time getting out in the morning. Wound up having to wake the guy next door up to move his car."

Tips for camping with families

Playground availability: Several Crab Orchard area campgrounds feature dedicated children's areas. At Paradise on the Mountain RV Park, a visitor notes, "There is an adorable playground for the kids. This is a nice family campground & was very quiet. Well lit at night for anyone needing to venture over to the bathrooms as well."

Tips from RVers

Power supply issues: Electrical service reliability varies by location and site. One camper at Deer Run RV Resort experienced challenges: "We put our surge protector on and the power at the site kept shorting out. We managed to get slides out then it shorted out."

Hookup placement: Site layouts differ between parks and can present challenges. At Caney Creek, a visitor notes, "Spots are a little tight but concrete and pretty level. At our particular sight the sewer was toward the front of the sight but I had enough hose to get to it."
