Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Williston, SC

Barnwell State Park Campground permits pets on all 25 campsites while providing water and electric hookups for tent and RV camping. Several campgrounds near Williston accommodate dogs, including Aiken State Park and Barnyard RV Park. The campsites at Barnwell feature sand pads over clay which works well for tent campers, with spacious areas perfect for visitors bringing dogs. Park staff call ahead to provide gate codes for late arrivals and offer firewood for purchase. Sites are somewhat close together, making noise management important when camping with pets. Most locations require pets to remain leashed at all times, and campers should pack waste bags as pet waste stations are limited.

Clean bathrooms with showers are centrally located in campground loops, providing convenient facilities for pet owners. The trails at Aiken State Park are well-maintained and suitable for dog walking, with primitive camping areas located about half a mile hike from parking. Wildlife is present throughout these camping areas, so keeping dogs leashed helps protect local fauna and prevents encounters with strays that occasionally roam campgrounds. Campers report peaceful camping experiences with opportunities to hear coyotes howling at night while stargazing. Most parks in the region offer paddling opportunities with kayak and canoe rentals, though pets typically aren't allowed on rental watercraft. Barnwell features fishing opportunities at stocked ponds and a swimming beach where dogs must stay out of designated human swimming areas.

    Outside Inn Campground

Great Family Trip Especially for the kiddos!!

This was our second visit to Outside Inn Campground and both times we stayed in the camper they offer as a rental. It’s the first thing you basically see when pull into the campground and when we come back next time that’s where we want to stay again. It’s perfect for a family with multiple kids and for us we had 3 adults and 3 kids and we couldn’t have been more comfortable. The owners Chris and Clair are just the best. They are so accommodating and always there if you need anything. The kids really enjoy the animals and activities they provide, especially feeding the goats when they were babies. The facilities are in exceptional condition and especially if you may have forgotten something“fire wood for us” they have that available to you as well. We can’t wait for our next trip back and are really looking forward to seeing the new changes the have in progress like the Glamping Tents and pond. Overall this was one of our best experiences as a family camping in South Carolina. Thank you again Clair for being present and patient with Avery and Albie while they were around the animals! We look forward to seeing y’all again soon!

    Dreher Island State Park Campground

    Camper Cabins R Great!

My bf and I rented a camper cabin-electricity, heat, air, bunkbeds + full bed…secluded from the rest of the park, located on its own loop, separate showers(2) + 3 stalls + changing room in the public restrooms…AND IT WAS ALL VERY CLEAN! Very helpful and friendly park rangers available, but not “in your face” 😉 We had a wonderful time! Kayaking, paddle boarding(both mine) and brought our boat to put in at their small, but efficient, Marina! Beautifully well kept grounds…but left to age untrained on ginormously stellar Lake Murray, South Carolina(Mid-state) I would HIGHLY recommend a visit/stay to this family, pet, everyone friendly State Park!!!

    Dreher Island State Park Campground

    Family Adventures on Lake Murray

I loved how Dreher Island State Park in South Carolina gave our family the best of both safety and fun, with shaded, roomy sites that included picnic tables, fire rings and well-kept bathhouses that made camping easy with kids. The campground sits right on Lake Murray, so the kids spent hours swimming, skipping rocks and spotting herons, while short hiking trails gave them just enough adventure without wearing them out. With boat ramps, fishing spots and wide-open lake views, it felt like a true escape, yet I had peace of mind knowing everything was family-friendly and close by when we needed it. Evenings ended around the campfire with tired, happy kids and a beautiful lakeside sunset.  I would highly recommend this place!

    Heritage RV Park

Great place for an over night stay.

This is a very well-kept campground. There is no bath house or laundry on premises but there is a very nice dog park. It is mostly gravel with one or two streets being sand and all the sites are back in except one which we thought we were going to get but I guess someone called before we did and got it. Our site was level and we were able to set up quickly with the help of Mike the office manager. There is nothing for kids to do here so be advised the gravel becomes a toy! It was great for a night stay. Right off the interstate with lots of stores nearby including Walmart and Camping world.

Longleaf Campground — Congaree National Park

Bluff Campground the way to go for quiet, peaceful park oasis

Having been on the road for about three months before coming to Congaree, we were happy to arrive to such a quiet and tucked-away campground. For $5 per night, Bluff Campground was the perfect spot to hole up for a few days and relax surrounded by the old growth forest of Congaree National Park.

Our time at Congaree was different from the other national parks we visited, because South Carolina had just undergone major flooding and much of Congaree -- especially its trails -- were under water.

With no crowds and not much to explore, our three days in the park was very relaxing. We chose Bluff Campground -- a one-mile walk-in campground near the visitor center -- because we knew it would be less popular than Longleaf Campground, and we knew we’d be spending a lot of time there. The one mile hike seemed further than we thought because of our heavy loads, but once we arrived at our camp, set up our tent, chairs, hammocks, and slack line, we were able to just make the easy walk in and out each day.

The campground itself has no facilities; its only amenities are the fire ring and picnic table at each site. We encountered only one other camper in our two nights here. We did encounter many mosquitoes, though, so don’t forget bug spray!

At Congaree, there are several hiking trails and kayaking trails that we would have liked to do, but with our plans foiled by rain, we spent time at the visitor center, around the short boardwalk trail adjacent to the visitor center, and kayaking through the flooded plains, straight off the boardwalk.

You can read much more about our three days in the park on our blog: Switchback Kids (Congaree)
