Best RV Parks & Resorts near Meadville, PA

Several RV parks around Meadville provide seasonal accommodations for motorhomes and trailers. RV Village Camping Resort operates from April through October with full hookups, including 50-amp electrical service and sewer connections. Rustic Acres in Shippenville maintains 100 sites with both 30- and 50-amp options on level pads approximately 35 miles southeast of Meadville. A visitor commented that "sites are ok for your trailers/RV, make sure you bring enough hose to connect to water. Each site does not have their own water connector, you have to run your hose 1 or 2 sites over." West Haven RV Park features pull-through RV pads that accommodate larger vehicles, though space between units can be limited during peak periods.

Seasonal considerations significantly impact RV travel planning in northwestern Pennsylvania. Most facilities close between late October and early May, with only Presque Isle Passage RV Park remaining open year-round. Road access to campgrounds often requires navigation through small towns and country roads where tight turns may challenge larger motorhomes. Dump stations are available at most parks, though elevation and drainage issues occasionally affect their functionality. According to one camper, "Dump connections too high" at certain facilities can create problems for some RV models. Parks with dedicated big rig spots typically require reservations several weeks in advance, particularly for weekend stays during summer months when Lake Erie attractions draw significant traffic.

    Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday

    Happy Camping

Relax, breath, and camp. Perfect spot.

This Campground is quiet, full of fun, for families or older people. Beautiful area.
Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through, tent sites, cabins, teepees. Swimming pool, private bathrooms and showers. Fishing lake, swimming lake, trails. Children play areas. Basketball, bad mitten/volleyball, Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites. (2)- pull through site. Golf cart rentals, and seasonal sites that are being updated, but all are decorated nicely, and kept up.
KOA is revamping some of this campground. Work in progress, but awesome stay.

    Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake

Great spacious park with 2 lakes!

Kenisee Lake RV Resort Thousand Trails in Jefferson, Ohio is a another great Thousand Trails park! This park is very large and has a park-like setting with 2 lakes. There is fishing on the lakes and the campground has rowboats available to use. They have all the amenities a family could want such as swimming pool, playground, mini-golf, and more! The staff is friendly and very accommodating. Kenisee Lake has 30 and 50 amp FHU back-in and pull-through sites. The only downside is the internet which is lacking in this area. We have really enjoyed our stay here and will be returning! 👍🏻😬

    Bear Run Campground

    Loads to do...!

This campground is deceptively big! The nightly RV sites are close to the park entrance and are relatively flat. The campground hosts themed events, game nights and arts& crafts. There is a swimming pool and playground for the kids. It also has a small café that sells baked goods and coffee. On Saturdays they sell amazing Armish Donuts!

Further into the campground the sites turn to more permanent sites. Further up the hill are more cottages and camping. This campground is steep in parts and too large to walk efficiently. There is a fenced dog run area and a beautiful lake. All sites have fire rings. There is an onsite laundry, WIFI, onsite dump station and propane refill station.

You can also buy ice and firewood. The campground is gated. Lots to do at the campground and lots to do in the surrounding area. They welcome all furry friends!

Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake

It's Easy to Love this Campground

As newbies to all things RV, we needed a place in Ohio to break in our new travel trailer. Indian Creek is family and pet friendly with all the amenities and even a great lookout spot across the street where you can take in a Lake Erie sunset. We loved the clean bathrooms and appreciated the staff's effort to maintain services while encouraging social distancing. All of their COVID-19 policies were well spelled out online and in signage across the resort so that you knew what to expect. All of the staff wore masks and bathrooms were cleaned often. Some of their usual events and programs were unavailable but they offered craft kits for children to pick up and do at their own campsite in lieu of the usual program. We enjoyed their beautiful put-put course and ice cream stand. They did not allow outside visitors in the resort. The only thing that threw us off was that the bathhouses were closed at night and we didn't know that until we tried to use them. The resort is expanding and adding new sites. They are planting lots of trees (it looked like one at each site) so the resort should become more park-like and less parking lot as they grow. We really liked the back-in sites with water and electric hookups because they were larger and more private and wooded. The fire ring was so easy to cook on that now I'm spoiled! The camp store/gas station was convenient and well stocked with camping supplies. Golf carts are available to rent if you need them to navigate this huge park. We rode our bikes instead. There is a township park just down the road towards Geneva-on-the-Lake proper that we used to spend some leisure and exercise time near the lake. We look forward to visiting this RV resort again in the future!

    Hearts Content Recreation Area

Quiet, Fairly Remote, Pleasant National Forest Campground

Allegheny National Forest is Pennsylvania's only National Forest and a gem of a location for outdoor recreation. Hearts Content itself is a well-maintained, very quiet campground with some of the most private sites we've experienced in 15 years of regular car camping.

Site A02 is very nice for privacy, one of the three front sites which means a bit of road traffic for other arriving campers, but covered by dense old-growth forest on all three sides and well set off the road. Ample tree coverage means an excellent shade canopy, but not-so-great if you're powering your rig with solar.

Clean, good-tasting drinking water at several community water spigots are available, and the central grassy area even contains a clean and well-maintained playground.

The campground itself is actually across the road from the Recreation Area. The Recreation Area is home to 3 nice hiking trails, including one all-season trail that converts to a cross-country skiing trail in the snowy months, as well as some picnic tables and a restroom.

The campground has a couple pit toilets that have been very well maintained by campground hosts each year we've been there. Zero smell or problems here, they appear to be looked after daily. They are still pit toilets so this is not exactly a luxury affair, but as pit toilets go, these definitely suffice.

    ---

INTERNET: One bar of usable Verizon 4G LTE and T-Mobile 4G LTE suitable for slow web browsing and e-mail, but little else. Because of the very dense tree cover here, Starlink is not really a viable option. The most southern facing sites have more of a clearing which may work for Starlink, but are smaller, less private, and also face the group campsite which is well trafficked by Boy Scout troops and other summer camp gatherings, so you're upping your noise quite a bit.

    ---

MAJOR PROS: This is a great campground to just enjoy camping. Set some 15 miles back in old growth forest, the most private of the campsites provide a very pleasant wilderness experience but still some well-maintained amenities like fresh drinking water and good pit toilets. In our experience camping here several times over several years, weekdays are very quiet at this location, perhaps the quietest of any campground of this size and caliber we've experienced anywhere. It's only really Friday evenings and Saturdays where you'll see more than 3-4 other campers in this place.

    ---

The closest nearby town is Warren, PA a small but service-rich town set on the Allegheny River that provides all the necessary stuff - a Wal Mart,  a Lowes, and plenty of restaurants and little shops. Warren is the longtime home of a refinery of some sort and on days when the downwind is blowing especially strong, you can catch the faint whiff of a funky but ambiguous smell of…something?

Cell service kicks up to 5G on T-Mobile in Warren itself, but you're still stuck on 4G with Verizon, as of summer 2022.

Back to the campground, I would highly recommend this place for people who can get out there on weekdays and enjoy peace and quiet. Firewood is available for sale at the Camp Host campsite, but there's so much downed wood behind just about every site that purchasing wood really isn't necessary: you can keep a hot fire going all night, for free, just by cleaning out the underbrush.

This is such a pretty, quiet campsite that during weekdays the area deer will often approach from the woods behind the campsites to feast on low hanging leaves. We've seen dozens of them who will get within 10-20 yards of you for a snack later into the night. While never getting too close, it does make for a pleasant wildlife viewing opportunity.

We really like this place. No showers or other running-water facilities and limited internet service prevent this place from being a perfect 5. It is also a bit of a drive into town for provisions or daily ingress if you need these amenities. That aside, tent, trailer or RV, you are likely to enjoy your experience here if you enjoy camping at all.

    Mercer-Grove City KOA

    Really nice!

Very well maintained campground with lots of amenities, esp for kids (pool, playground). Generous sized sites, not too close together. Looks like quite a few long-term RVers here. Cute chickens wandering around. Hiking trail accessible from the campsite. Heavily wooded and quiet, but not too far off interstate.

    Buckaloons

    Roomy and wooded

We come here at least once per summer. It is very family friendly, pet friendly and just beautiful. If you kayak, you can drop in up in Warren and come in right at the campground. Ice and wood available on site. Dollar general close by just in case.

    Tionesta Rec. Area Campground

    Nice COE

There was not a real address to set our RV GPS. Waze and Google maps will pull up directions by entering Tionesta Recreation Area. We came in from the west on US-6 to PA-66, and up PA-36. From I-80, take the exit for PA-36 then follow the signs to Tionesta and once you get near you'll see the Tionesta Recreation Area Signs. There are signs to the boat launch area so pay attention and follow the camping signs; the campground(CG) is on the right. If you come in from Tionesta, once you clear the town the CG area is to the left. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon around 3:00 PM and the COE entrance building was not manned, so we took a picture of the CG map and proceeded to back-in site 100 with 50 AMP FHUs. There were no obstacles so our back-in was one and done. The site was just long enough for our 39’ fifth wheel(recreation.gov stated max length 48 ft RV) and we had to park our F450 diagonally in front. We noticed that the site post already had our names and dates of stay. The utilities were about 3/4 the way to the back of the site so no problems with sewer, water, or electric cord lengths. The water pressure was okay at about 42 psi. We did not receive any OTA channels but this site and several others back up to a huge berm so you can get satellite. Most of the sites in the CG have mature trees so the satellite is iffy. We got 2 bars on Verizon. The site lengths vary in the CG and the lengths from the reservation site seemed to be fairly correct. There were quite a few larger rigs here. Most if not all of the sites in this CG are full hookups. We noticed that some were 30/20 AMP. Sites closer to the front of the CG, especially along the river, tend to be close to each other. We found that the 90s- 100s area has the best site spacing with site 100 being one of the most spacious sites. After watching a 40’ 5th wheel struggle to back into site 113, we decided this site is not a good choice for rigs over 35 feet or for someone with below-average backing abilities due to the obstacles getting into the site. The pad angles at 90 degrees, there’s a ditch across the road from the site making it difficult to swing the tow vehicle, and there are trees to avoid. We enjoyed walking our dogs through the CG and watching the groundhogs in the rocks behind our site. We noted during our 4-day stay towards the end of June that restaurants and other sights such as museums may be closed Monday, Tuesday, and/or Wednesday. Get out and explore PA Route 666, which includes the Nebraska bridge, Tall Oaks Gift Shop, and Frog rock.

    Geneva State Park Campground

    Monster Campsites!

This park has huge campsites ! The pads are paved and they left a section of trees/woods behind each site to provide some privacy between neighbors. The bathrooms are very clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. The park is directly across the road from the paved bike trail which leads to the beach, marina, lodge and strip area. The trail is dog friendly but the beach is not. The campground is also pet friendly.

Guide to Meadville

Meadville, Pennsylvania RV campgrounds sit at approximately 1,100 feet elevation in the northwestern Pennsylvania highlands. Winter closures affect most facilities between October and April, with seasonal openings typically beginning in late April when overnight temperatures consistently remain above freezing. Local roads include numerous railroad crossings and bridges with weight restrictions that can impact larger RV navigation.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Two fishing lakes at Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground allow campers to cast without leaving the grounds. "Our family really enjoyed staying here, and our kids especially loved swimming and fishing in the lake," reported one visitor. The campground provides rowboats for guest use.

Mini-golf activities: Several campgrounds offer on-site mini-golf courses for family entertainment. According to a visitor at Kenisee's Grand River Campground, "Swimming hole is cool!" The campground features multiple entertainment options including mini-golf for guests seeking recreation without driving.

Children's programs: Structured activities for younger campers occur regularly at certain facilities. A camper at Rustic Acres mentioned, "We were thrilled to find they had a children's program on Saturday mornings. Our children had a ball making crafts, playing games, finding items on a scavenger hunt and of course snacks!"

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many campers appreciate campgrounds with adequate space between sites. At Rustic Acres, "The RV sites are large and the spacing is not crowded. The camp ground was quiet and extremely peaceful," noted one reviewer. The level gravel pads accommodate both large and small RVs.

Clean facilities: Bathroom cleanliness ranks high in positive reviews. One camper at West Haven RV Park observed, "Bath house was well appointed and spotless." Regular maintenance schedules at these facilities ensure consistent standards throughout the camping season.

Community atmosphere: Many campgrounds foster a neighborly environment. A Rustic Acres visitor commented, "I can't remember when we were at a campground where everyone said hi and waved to each other." This social aspect creates repeat visitors who return annually for the community feel.

What you should know

Site reservations: Popular weekends require advance planning for most campgrounds. "We stayed memorial weekend and it was quiet by 9 every night," reported a camper at Chestnut Ridge Park, highlighting the family-oriented atmosphere even during busy periods.

Water connections: Not all sites feature individual water hookups. One guest at West Haven noted, "A little walk to the restroom and water, but not bad," indicating that some tent sites require carrying water from central locations rather than having at-site connections.

Noise considerations: Highway proximity affects some campgrounds. A visitor at Presque Isle Passage RV Park mentioned being "close to the highway so there is constant noise!" This location remains open year-round but experiences traffic sound from nearby roads.

Seasonal operations: Operating dates vary significantly between facilities. Kenisee's Grand River Campground typically operates from May 1 to October 15, similar to other regional campgrounds that close during winter months when freezing temperatures affect water systems.

Tips for camping with families

Pool facilities: Swimming pools provide recreation for children during summer months. A visitor to RV Village Camping Resort stated, "The pool and playground are awesome for the kiddos." Most pools operate from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends, weather permitting.

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature dedicated play areas. According to a guest at Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake, "Lots of amenities. Hall, restaurant, pool, fitness center, activities center. Nicely done cabins." These facilities provide entertainment options during inclement weather.

Weekend activities: Scheduled events occur regularly during peak season. A Kenisee's Grand River Campground visitor explained, "It's a great place with a lot of events and entertainment for family's. Multiple fishing ponds, Friday night bingo, bands, fishing tournament for kids, duck race, Christmas in July and many other activities."

Tips from RVers

Dump station elevation: Some facilities have installation issues with sewer connections. Chestnut Ridge Park helps address connection problems - one camper noted, "The owner gave me 30 amp converter at no cost and also helped me hook up my gray water and black water connections."

Big rig access: Access roads and turning radiuses vary significantly between campgrounds. "Slightly overpriced but lots of activities, super clean bathrooms, two pools, fishing pond, put-put golf, restaurant, store, minutes from Geneva on the lake," reported a Sun Retreats Geneva visitor, mentioning amenities that compensate for tight access.

Cellular connectivity: Internet service varies throughout the region. "Kenisee Lake RV Campground is a wonderful place to work from remotely if you have an external antenna to cellular internet," explained one camper, highlighting the importance of signal boosting equipment for those requiring connectivity during their stay.
