      Overview

Rec.gov campsite availability grid is not reflective of availability. For more information on reservations, please visit http://fotlanf.org/ Twin Lakes Campground is located near a small, spring-fed, trout-stocked lake, popular with families. Visitors enjoy fishing, swimming and exploring local trails, including the Twin Lakes Trail._The campground was once the site of a chemical factory, and the lake was built as a "splash dam" to raise water levels in a plant downstream.

      Recreation

Campers love Twin Lakes for its swimming beaches and lakeside fishing piers. Mill Creek offers native trout fishing, and can be accessed along the Mill Creek Trail. Hiking and backpacking are available along area trails. The Black Cherry National Recreation Interpretative Trail features nearly 40 interpretive displays along its path, and forms the eastern end of the Twin Lakes Trail, the second longest in the forest.

      Natural Features

The Twin Lakes area is forested with a mixture of hardwoods. Many natural streams and creeks meander through the landscape within the Allegheny National Forest in northwestern Pennsylvania. The Allegheny is the state's only national forest. It covers nearly half a million acres and is populated primarily with black cherry, maple and other hardwoods.

      A great spot to camp

So myself, my Girlfriend and our dog went up to hike the Grand Canyon and decided to spend the night. We were met with extremely friendly personnel. The site was easy to get to. And the bathrooms and showers were extremely clean. Honestly it was a huge plus picking this place to stay the night.

      High Praise for High Pines

What a beautiful campground with the sweetest owners, Jack and Debbie! Our 3 night stay was just not long enough. We will definitely be back! Shout out to Debbie for being highly instrumental in the creation of the High Pines App, which is absolutely amazing and chock full of useful information. Another shout out to both Jack & Debbie for warmly welcoming our South African Mastiff despite her intimidating size and appearance. We appreciated that we, the owners, would be judged. Not the dog and certainly not her breed. Thank you for a wonderful camping experience!

      Clean quiet campground

This is a nice clean quiet campground. It's a great stop if you're doing rails to trails or swimming at the beach up the road. (Note to get to both places you'll need to drive). We went on a weekday and it wasn't crowded but I've heard on the weekends it gets packed. There are two sets of swings and one slide. The bathrooms have showers and were clean. Some of the spots are smaller and right next to each other (down by the creek and up around top). But spots 68,69,70 are prime. We were in spot 75 right next to the bridge and not ideal

      Old and worn out

A dingy place. The ground was swampy the only dry places are the gravel pads in the sites. I wouldn't tent camp here.

On the plus side, strong AT&T and T-Mobile cell signals. (I don't have a verizon device)

      Camping by the river

Many disbursed spots along the river over several miles. Size od camping spots ranges from large open fields with fire pits to spots on the shoulder of the road

We came in on a Saturday and found one of the road side sites open. Not much traffic and very friendly people in the area.

The river was basically brown like pudding the only signs of life were insects. While a very beautiful area, the river was king of yucky looking.

      Great experience

We arrived on Saturday and departed the following Friday. The campground was exceptionally maintained, bathrooms and showers virtually spotless and the pool was clearly and consistently maintained at all times. Plenty of space to spread out and walk. All of the roads were paved and sites were very large.

      Nice Place

The campground is beautifully kept. Bathrooms and sites were nice. Some sites are alittle closer personally esp in the dog area. It was extremely buggy when we went. Our dogs wouldn't come out of the camper because there was no relief. It was the height of rattle snake season. A site near ours and very close to the playground had a rattler under their camper. Alittle too close for comfort. Otherwise, campers, rangers and hosts were nice to deal!

Good Camping Option to the Grand Canyon of PA

Stayed at this campsite, taking our pop-up camper on its maiden voyage to the Grand Canyon of PA. Was able to choose a location that worked best for us. The area we selected was not busy. Campsite appeared to have a lot of seasonal campers. My husband does not like staying in crowded campgrounds with people surrounding you and up all night screaming and singing. We go camping to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. Not to listen to people pretending to relive their college days....lol. Area is open, not offering a lot of privacy, but we had shade and woods behind us, and the ground was grassy and level. The pool was nice and the rec center had a lot of activities for kids. The pond offered fishing and pedal boat rentals. We chose this campsite due to its proximity to the Leonard Harrison State Park. We had no issues here and would recommend.

      Family Retreat by the Stream

Spent Memorial Day weekend at this campground and found it bustling with activity yet still retaining a serene charm. Despite the crowd, we snagged a spot by the stream, which added an extra layer of tranquility to our stay. As the holiday wound down, so did the crowd, leaving behind a peaceful ambiance. Its proximity to the PA Grand Canyon made it an ideal base for exploration. While the WiFi was a bit spotty, offering only two bars in certain areas, it encouraged us to disconnect and fully immerse ourselves in nature, especially during the mesmerizing stargazing nights. Although there were plenty of annual RV residents, the atmosphere remained quaint and inviting. Overall, a delightful spot for a camping getaway.

      Clear Creek State Park Campground

Camping right on the River with nice trails.

First time staying at Clear Creek State Park and had a spot just below where the Creek empties into the River.  We were able to turn the RV so the door/awning faced the River.  We saw a two different Merganser mamas with young, a green heron fishing, and a bald eagle go up the River.  We were right across from the showerhouse but noise was minimal.  Our dog had the riverbank to explore on her camp leash of course.  Hiking above the campground was very nice and we did an easy loop of almost 6 miles.  Mountain Laurels were in bloom.  Very clean park.  Showerhouse was well-kept.  Bringing the kayaks next time.

Nice little park for a night

New owners are super friendly. It's an older park they look to be putting some love and work into. Sites are sloped a bit as most are in the mountains. We were able to decently level our motorhome with blocks. Minimal noise from the highway, which was pleasantly unexpected being so close. They have some animals, like goats, as well in a little farm area. Nice new cabins too.

      Enjoyed our weekend here!

Nice quiet & small campground on a hillside.  Loved how remote this location was, but be prepared to be a billy goat when trekking to the restroom no matter your site location.  Even though it was a busy holiday weekend, it was a very peaceful weekend.  Very clean restrooms.  No signage to sites if you aren't familiar with the campground.  Terrible "slow bumps" in/out of campground . . . a little excessive.  Beautiful lake/area, but must drive from campground to water's edge.  Will likely visit again!  PS--Currently issues with potable water; must bring your own.

      Nature Lover's Dream

This is one of the best campgrounds we've ever stayed at. Beautifully maintained and landscaped, and the sites are level. Our site was literally on the river, we even saw an eagle. Their bathrooms are so clean I almost swept from joy. Keep in mind you need quarters for a hot shower but I only needed 2 quarters for 6 minutes, plenty of time. What I love most is how accessible the biking trail and river are. The staff will even shuttle you to the kayak drop off site for a fee, and then you just pull in right to the campground. We have been coming to this area for years and this is the first time we were lucky to snag a site for a Holiday weekend. We won't stay anywhere else from now on.

      Generic positive title

Great tent site with lots of room. Have your own little driveway to park your car right next to the site. Comes with a picnic table and fire pit. Need lots of rope for setting up tarps as trees are far apart. Cute little stream in the back with a log crossing. No cell service, near town with free wifi. No toilets or garbage. Good amount of traffic coming down the road but isn't an issue at night time.
