Hoover Campground

Hoover Campground, near Idanha, Oregon, is a straightforward spot for those looking to enjoy the great outdoors without the frills. It’s a primitive campground, meaning you won’t find electric hookups or showers, but you will have access to clean, well-maintained restrooms and picnic tables for your meals.

The campground is known for its spacious sites, which are perfect for tents and RVs alike. Many visitors have commented on the large campsites, with some even having trails leading down to the lake. Not The Worst

My wife and I camped here for one night. Our neighbors were decent, but there was ZERO privacy. Our site was completely connected to Site 7. They looked they were meant to be just one group site. We had a trail that looked inviting from our site to the lake, but upon walking it, we found ourselves essentially in a marsh. No trail after about 5 yards, and once we did make it to the water, it was infested with goose feces. I wouldn’t recommend planning to swim here.

The bathrooms were well maintained and had flushing toilets and running water/soap.

There was wood for sale. $6/bundle or 3/$20. Hosts were good and site was clean.

The highway is right across the lake, and VERY noticeable. Also, anyone on the dock can be heard from the sites with relative ease.

I think it’s just a one and done for me, but would work if it’s all you could find in the area and the stay was going to be short.

Awesome quiet place

There’s no electricity or water but it was still perfect! The host was awesome and he went out of his way to help us get backed in.

Loved it.

I really enjoy this campground. Has an actual bathroom, very clean. The Camp host was very nice and had firewood to buy. Our campsite was flat and large, enough room for large tents.

Quiet

Very nice and quiet! Close to the lake and far away from craziness. Sites are nice but close together.

Camping near Detroit Lake Day-Use area

We stayed at site 10 over Labor Day weekend and loved it! Cost - $22 and $5 for an additional vehicle. You can walk up or reserve the sites by phone. However, we normally walk up and are lucky with finding what we need last minute.

The tent sites are large, but you can definitely hear and see your neighbors through the brush. There is quite a walk to the bathrooms from our site, but the trails are well labeled. The bathrooms are “prison toilets” with cold water sinks, and do not have lights nor soap. It is a BYOS - soap or sanitizer. This is why I gave it a 4.

This site is attached to a beautiful Hoover Day Use area that charges $5 for day use. The Hoover Day use area has a large dock to walk/fish on, a boat ramp, and lots of space for parking, picnicking, and fishing. The lake was 75 degrees this summer - so plan for blue gill not trout or salmon.

quiet campground

overall a great experience! We had originally planned to put a 2nd tent on 1 site but ended up paying for a separate site because they couldn't quite fit 2 tents, although there seemed to be a lot of variation across the campground in site size.

There were a lot of campers, but it seemed quiet and private because of the dense trees.

It was a few minute walk down to the lake, but it wasn't a very nice spot for swimming or hanging out.

In August the lake was low so the banks were muddy. we had a few dogs with us so they had fun playing but we would have gone to another spot on the lake if we wanted to swim.

primitive

we had the opportunity recently to stay two nights at Hoover campground on lake Detroit, it’s a primitive CG with flush toilets, no soap in restrooms and lacking showers. The CG was occupied by some unruly teans with dogs they could not control. They also did not respect quiet times and made for sleepless nights. The north Santium river enters the lake here and one of the highlights was watching the Ospreys fish. This site does not have RV hookups, come prepared to do some “dirt camping”.

surprisingly quiet in a popular area

This is a great campground along a tributary of Detroit Lake. There is a little road noise from hwy 22, but it's across the water, and not too bad. The views from some of the sites (like ours) was awesome.

There's a great boat ramp and a couple of docks to hang out, fish, and jump in the water.

Hoover

Camped there the second week of June, so weather is iffy. It did rain a couple times, but the fishing and off road trails and exploring are always great. This is always a go to spot for me in the summer!

Lots of People

This campground is really cool and has great views of the lake, but it's a madhouse during the summer. Massive campers or big trucks pulling boats are at every site and there's dozens of kids running around. If you've got a family and toys it's a great place, but avoid it if you are looking for solitude. Lastly there is good cell reception, which is really rare in the area.
