Ochoco NF-Ochoco West - Prineville Area

    Great Place

This is a great place.  The cabin is vintage and takes you back in time.  It was clean and comfortable.  The out house was very clean.  There is no water so you need to bring your own.  The Fridge and stove worked really well, we did have issues trying to get the lights to work.  But we had lanterns so it was not a problem.  We were visited by some cattle that were grazing near by.  Bring your own cleaning supplies and bedding.  The beds are full size with trundles under neath, there are two of them.  There is a small table with chairs in the kitchen.  There  is a picnic table and fire ring outside as well.

    Sunny Valley Campground

    Very nice!

We were here for a quick overnight in our 24' travel trailer. The place is very nice with tent, cabin, and RV sites. Our site was partial HU but they do have full HU sites. Bathrooms and showers were clean. It's close to I-5 bit the road noise was not bad and a chorus of frogs throughout the evening distracts from it. We were in spot 67 which was spacious and offered a great deal of privacy. Picnic table and fire pit on site. The nearby covered bridge is neat to see.

Alfred A. Loeb State Park Campground

    My favorite campground

Have stayed at Loeb many times over the past 37 years -- tent camping, cabin camping, and now tent-trailering -- and it has been fun every time.

The showers are great. Short walk to the super-clean Chetco River for swimming and salamander-camping. Twenty minute drive to the ocean beaches. Good hosts. Fun watching kids ride their bikes around and around. Grassy park-lawn section for croquet or bocce ball.

Valley of the Rogue State Park Campground

Brilliant blue waters in an intrepid forest.

This beautiful camp ground is a must! They have Cabins and camp sites available. I would advise reserving far in advance. The park and sites are well taken care of and a wonderful environment for a peaceful stay with hot shower facilities and restrooms.

Family and pet friendly, you will have direct river access to The Rogue River and its brilliant blue waters. Located down it's own little valley, this gives it the seclusion you are looking for and the access to town, if needed, only about 20 minutes away.

This camp ground is well worth any drive you may have to take to get there. Gorgeous!

Alfred A. Loeb State Park Campground

Easy access to the Chetco River

Stayed in a cabin and it was beautiful. The front porch provided a fabulous view to the Chetco River.

If you fish and don't have a trailer or camper these cabins are perfect. Fire ring and table are provided as well.

    Well worth the price.

Alfred A. Loeb State Park Campground

    Cozy mountain near the coast

We stayed one night here during a trip down the Oregon coast. We have a 37' TT, it was a little tight trying to back in, our neighbor across from us was gracious enough to move his truck. The sites themselves are very spacious, with a picnic table and fire pit. The sites were surrounded by blackberry bushes which was cool.

We did not use the bathrooms, but the park and the outside of the facilities all looked clean, and they also had cabins available near the river, which was so peaceful!

Honey Bear by the Sea RV Resort & Campground

    Great setup!

All the campsites along 101 for miles were taken and we saw the sign to this place...

Wow! We were surprised that they had a single tent camping site left. They were surprised too in fact. Anyway, the place is a legit resort. Its some 50 acres and the tent campsites reside away from the RV area a little ways. Enough to seem secluded. They situated the place perfectly. My words cannot describe the elegance. Its a great natural setting. They set you up with a map. $25 a night but well worth it. Your closest neighbor is like 50-75 yards away at least. Soft grass ground, picnic table, fire pit. We got a site placed right behind two large ponds huge meadows. It was great. Very clean. Staff are mostly there to run the main store and RV area and are very accommodating if you need assistance. Again, the buildings and RVs are a little walk (out of sight) of the tent camping area. Showers if you need them. Beach is a short 1/4 mile walk across 101. Water available. If you’re looking for deep forest rough camping this isnt it. If you’re looking for easy going camping and beauty, this is just the place.

Guide to Merlin

Camping cabins near Merlin, Oregon provide seasonal shelter amid the region's characteristic 1,000-foot elevation changes. The Rogue River Valley creates a distinct microclimate where temperatures often exceed 90°F in summer months, while winter nights can drop below freezing. Water access points vary significantly by season, with most riverside cabins requiring advance booking from April through September.

What to do

River access and water activities: At Cedar Bloom, visitors find multiple river entry points for different water experiences. "There are 2 areas with river access, a shallow area and a deep swimming hole, with the option to float down some mild (and fun!) rapids," notes Nenah B. The Illinois River provides good swimming from June through September.

Alpaca viewing: The Laughing Alpaca Campground features resident alpacas during warmer months. "Unfortunately for us, they had already been relocated to a warmer climate for the season. In warmer weather, we would have enjoyed interacting with the alpacas and getting out on the river," explains Lee D. The campground provides free use of water equipment when weather permits.

Disc golf course: Lake Selmac features an established disc golf course accessible to cabin guests. "Fishing is great but not a great lake for swimming there is to many weeds in it. And there is a pretty good 18 hole disc golf course," writes Jessica D. The course remains open year-round with rental equipment available at some locations.

What campers like

Waterfront locations: Many campers appreciate riverside cabin settings for the sound and scenery. "Our site had a view of the water. Sites are close but in grass, not concrete. Lots of trees and shade," writes AubreyandMelody W. about their experience at Laughing Alpaca Campground. These waterfront sites typically cost $10-15 more than standard cabin sites.

Proximity to attractions: Valley of the Rogue State Park Campground provides strategic access to regional destinations. "We enjoyed staying at this park. Each day we either hiked or biked the local trails. The bike trail goes on for many miles and is quite enjoyable. You can bike into the nearby towns while staying on a safe trail," shares Charlotte L. Most cabins here require at least a two-night minimum stay.

Clean facilities: Sunny Valley Campground maintains well-kept amenities. "Bathrooms and showers were clean. It's close to I-5 bit the road noise was not bad and a chorus of frogs throughout the evening distracts from it," notes Stacy. The campground performs daily facility cleaning between 9:00-11:00 AM.

What you should know

Highway proximity: Several cabin locations sit near Interstate 5, creating variable noise levels. "We were in the F Loop, which is in the far back of the park. The park's CG areas run along I-5 so you are going to get road noise regardless of your site. We used our sound machine at night so the road noise wasn't too bad," explains MickandKarla W. about Valley of the Rogue State Park.

Limited availability: Seven Feathers RV Resort cabins often book months in advance. "This rv park is quiet for the number of spaces. There is a covered pool and hot tub building with a fitness club/room. There is a separate building with several showers, bathrooms and laundry. Everything is super clean," reports Darcy K. Cabin rates range from $99-$169 depending on day of week and season.

Water quality concerns: Some locations experience seasonal water quality issues. "The waterline provided had rust coming through it and stained my R.V. shower to the point I couldn't get it all off. They said it was a new issue and they were replacing the tank," notes Jorge C. about a Lake Selmac property. Most cabins provide bottled water during treatment periods.

Tips for camping with families

Look for kid-friendly amenities: Campgrounds with dedicated children's areas provide added value. "Fenced off leash dog park, bike trails, fishing, clean bathrooms and showers, tent and yurt camping and more! This campground offers great amenities the public and travelers whether they want to stay a few hours or a whole week," writes Kelly N. about Valley of the Rogue State Park.

Consider the swimming options: Lake Selmac Resort offers protected swimming areas. "We spent a weekend at Lake Selmac camping in our RV with our four kiddos. The hosts were incredibly kind and helpful. The new Owners of the Marina were wonderful as well," shares susanna R. The lake features designated swimming zones with gradual entry points.

Choose locations with activities: Cedar Bloom provides communal spaces for family gatherings. "Super pretty scenery, hosts were super kind. Great for kids with a river on site nearby. One part of the river is designated as a nudist-friendly beach but is well-marked," notes Katie G. The campground posts clear signage for family-appropriate areas.

Tips from RVers

Arrival timing: Early check-in options vary significantly between properties. "We arrived super late and left super early but the campground is safe, clean, and well put together. The booking was super smooth and all electronic including the confirmation and after hours instruction," explains Anja R. about Sunny Valley Campground.

Site selection strategies: At Valley of the Rogue, site features vary dramatically. "We were in spot b2... Bull head thorns are sprouting everywhere, we have to be really vigilant when walking our dogs. Water is good. T mobil and att work really well. There is also a separate dump station that is clean and well kept," advises Semi H.

Winter considerations: Seasonal closures affect amenities at several locations. "This is a great first night stopping point when heading south from Portland on I5. So close to the hiway. Nice spots and a view of the river. I'd consider this more of a stop over point than a real camping destination," suggests Kathy B. about Valley of the Rogue State Park, noting it remains open year-round.
