Ochoco NF-Ochoco West - Prineville Area

    Great Place

This is a great place.  The cabin is vintage and takes you back in time.  It was clean and comfortable.  The out house was very clean.  There is no water so you need to bring your own.  The Fridge and stove worked really well, we did have issues trying to get the lights to work.  But we had lanterns so it was not a problem.  We were visited by some cattle that were grazing near by.  Bring your own cleaning supplies and bedding.  The beds are full size with trundles under neath, there are two of them.  There is a small table with chairs in the kitchen.  There  is a picnic table and fire ring outside as well.

    Sunny Valley Campground

    Very nice!

We were here for a quick overnight in our 24' travel trailer. The place is very nice with tent, cabin, and RV sites. Our site was partial HU but they do have full HU sites. Bathrooms and showers were clean. It's close to I-5 bit the road noise was not bad and a chorus of frogs throughout the evening distracts from it. We were in spot 67 which was spacious and offered a great deal of privacy. Picnic table and fire pit on site. The nearby covered bridge is neat to see.

Valley of the Rogue State Park Campground

Brilliant blue waters in an intrepid forest.

This beautiful camp ground is a must! They have Cabins and camp sites available. I would advise reserving far in advance. The park and sites are well taken care of and a wonderful environment for a peaceful stay with hot shower facilities and restrooms.

Family and pet friendly, you will have direct river access to The Rogue River and its brilliant blue waters. Located down it's own little valley, this gives it the seclusion you are looking for and the access to town, if needed, only about 20 minutes away.

This camp ground is well worth any drive you may have to take to get there. Gorgeous!

Rainbow Bay at Lake of the Woods

    Great spot for the family!

My entire family has stayed here twice for family reunions and it has been a great spot for the entire family! They have cabins (tiny houses) for rent as well as spots for RVs! The lake is absolutely stunning and a great size for boating and fishing. The tiny cabins do have some critters living in them but as long as you don’t leave food on the counters you should be okay!

    Willow lake

Wilderness Camping with the basics - A hidden Gem

What a fantastic lake! Secluded in the mountain back country of the Southern Oregon area - not far from Medford / Grants Pass / Siskiyou National Forest / Crater Lake

Great boating lake for water sports, good fishing, excellent hiking and great campsites and in nearby campgrounds not listed on The Dyrt yet, you can get some really secluded sites that are just beautiful... but do not expect more than an outhouse and a spigot, a picnic table (maybe a bear box?) and fire-ring- which to me is PHENOMENAL camping. Fresh water, a bathroom and nature. Works!

The Willow Lake County Park offers more amenities though and great wilderness. Its a beautiful little gem and gets amazing weather- from warm and sunny to random rainy thunderstorms that do not last long. Truly God-sent sunsets and sunrises.

Great place to make some wonderful memories with streams, creeks, the lake, the forested areas, trails, canyons, fishing, hiking, canoeing and more.

Valley of the Rogue State Park Campground

    Trying the yurt thing 💜

We had a relaxing time during our stay at the campground the yurt was warm and cozy, and has a beautiful skylight that you can open if you so choose. You will need to bring your own bedding as it’s only provides you with the furniture there’s electricity as well, but no other amenities in the yurt. The facilities were clean and easily accessible. We would definitely stay here again

The area sits at approximately 1,200 feet elevation with summer temperatures regularly reaching the high 90s. Winter temperatures frequently drop below freezing, making cabin rentals particularly valuable during shoulder seasons when weather conditions can be unpredictable.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Jackson County Howard Prairie Lake Resort, visitors can fish in the lake when water levels permit. "Lots of great spots to fish," notes one visitor who recommends bringing "a nice jacket, and maybe a thin pair of gloves. Wind comes off the lake and the gloves helped when fishing."

River activities: The Rogue River provides recreational opportunities at several campgrounds. "Our campsite was about a 2 minute walk from the river," writes one camper about their stay at Valley of the Rogue State Park Campground. The park features "riverside trail, and green-way paved trail through the park."

Mineral springs soaking: Some properties offer unique mineral water experiences. A visitor at Jackson Wellsprings states: "We camped in our van for $25 per night. Tent and car camping available. Developed hot pool for day use, with a discount of you are staying there overnight. Sauna and steam room available."

What campers like

Clean facilities: Campers frequently mention the well-maintained amenities at cabins near Central Point. A visitor at Riverpark RV Resort reports: "Bathrooms & showers were so clean. What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Water levels can affect lake access and activities. Would be a nice discovery trip for kids finding lake bottom treasures."

Highway noise: Some cabin rental locations experience traffic sounds. At Valley of the Rogue State Park, a camper notes: "This seemed like it would deter from the overall appeal, but the river noise somewhat drowned out the traffic noise." Another mentions, "If you're the camper who wants to sit outside your camper and read a good book to the sounds of nature, this might not be great."

Booking considerations: Reservation policies vary significantly. "We called hoping for availability and got lucky with their last one," writes a visitor at Riverpark RV Resort, suggesting advance planning is typically necessary.

Tips for camping with families
