Overview

Campground closed due to the 2020 Riverside Wildfire Lockaby Campground is ideally located next to the Wild and Scenic Clackamas River in the lush, green mountains of northern Oregon. It provides access to some of the area's greatest whitewater rafting, as well as a famous place to fish. Whether it is relaxation or recreation, there's something for everyone at the campground.

Recreation

Fishing is very popular in the Clackamas River and anglers can expect a catch of winter steelhead, spring Chinook and late summer Coho salmon, as well as other species of freshwater fish. The Clackamas contains miles of wild water as it bends and drops through the scenic Cascade Range, creating prime whitewater rafting opportunities. A hiking trail follows the river north and south and begins about a mile away at Fish Creek Campground. Scenic driving is also available on the West Cascades Scenic Byway, which travels alongside the river.

The forest provides habitat for the federally protected bald eagle and northern spotted owl, as well as an occasional peregrine falcon. A variety of wildlife makes its home in the area.

Nearby Attractions

A boat ramp is available at Fish Creek Campground, which is less than a mile south of the campground. It provides a convenient river launch for kayaks, canoes and rafts. Right on the Clackamas River

Stayed here one year when my other favorite Clackamas River campground was full. Lots of walk in sites right on the river. Plenty of shade. No cell service or hood ups. Pit toilets.  Happened to find a site open for one night on a weekend. Not sure the status of this campground after the fires of 2020

Love this campsite! Only downside is water is difficult to access

I love this site, it's never crowded! Been here 3 times and it's only ever half filled. Only downside is only being able to access the river by the site that is furthest East. We were able to go down this way since there was no one camping there. Sites are a little crammed, if you have a direct neighbor, they might be kind of close.

Beautiful Spot

Great little campground... not too far from Portland Metro area and great view of the Clackamas river. Bathroom was awful but that’s what you get with just a hole in the ground, people there were amazing and really great camp host. I’ll definitely go back.

Natural

Very primitive campground without flush toilets and simple wells. Campgrounds get a little squished together at times

Very simple, quite

Lockaby Campground is a very simple, yet quiet place to camp. Some friends and I stayed here one summer break from college. There is some great hikes along the road, and close to the campground. We did drive about 15 miles from the campground for one hike that was amazing. There is also a river close by- Wild and Scenic Clackamas River. My friends and I had fun cooling off in this river while we stayed. We did see a few people fishing in the river if that is something you are interested in. We also heard/saw that there is a great place you can white water raft. We wished we would have signed up for this because we did see some people doing this, and it looked like a blast. The campsites themselves were your generic/basic campsites. They had fire pits at each campsite, with grates on top which made it nice for cooking. Also, each campsite does have a picnic table too. They did take online reservations which was nice (and simple). There was no running water, so definitely bring a good supply of water!! Especially if you plan on doing some hiking. The campsites were pretty close together, but luckily it wasn't too busy when we went and there wasn't anyone right next to us. The campsites are also pretty shaded, which helped during the heat of the day but it was pretty chilly at night. I would definitely recommend bringing a jacket for the evening. The toilets weren't the best- pit/vaulted toilets. Bring your own toilet paper!! Also, make sure to bring enough food/snacks because the nearest store is about 15 miles away (not bad, but who wants to drive?). Also, no showers onsite-this wasn't a big deal for us because we just went in the river to wash off. All in all I would say this campground was "average." Nothing super special about it, but it was great to just be outside with close friends.
