Powerboats race across Lake of the Arbuckles throughout the day, their engines echoing off the water as campers settle into sites along the shoreline. Loop C at Buckhorn Campground requires advance reservations and delivers full hookups alongside gravel pads that accommodate both RVs up to 60 feet and tent campers seeking lakefront access.
The 35 sites spread across this wooded loop offer varying degrees of privacy, with perimeter spots backing into forest providing more seclusion than the open areas near the boat launch. "Sites might be difficult to back in a large camper due to tight turns," notes Kinsey T., particularly around the narrower sections where the road prevents passing. Most sites feature level gravel pads, picnic tables, fire rings, and lantern hooks, though some lakefront spots present leveling challenges on the sloped terrain.
Fishing draws many visitors to the lake's edge, where catfish and crappie provide regular catches according to multiple reports. Swimming occurs directly from campsites despite the absence of designated beach areas, with water temperatures reaching bath-like warmth by mid-June. The lake quiets considerably after sunset once recreational boaters depart for the day.
Modern restrooms with heated facilities serve the loop, featuring push-button timer showers and electrical outlets, though some sites require lengthy walks to reach them after dark. Cell coverage varies by provider, with AT&T generally performing better than others. The campground operates March through November, with Loop C staying busier than first-come options during peak seasons.
For campers preferring walk-in tent sites without the lake activity, Buckhorn Campground Loop B offers quieter alternatives just a short distance away.
