Best Cabin Camping near Rockbridge, OH

Several state parks and private campgrounds near Rockbridge, Ohio provide rustic cabins and furnished cabin rentals with varying amenities. Hocking Hills State Park offers Sherman cabins equipped with two sets of bunk beds, mini-fridges, microwaves, and air conditioning. At Boulders Edge Cabin and Tipi Retreat in Rockbridge, private cabins provide a less crowded experience in a tucked-away setting. "Perfect place for a getaway! They have tipi and cabin rentals. Such a nice place tucked away that isn't as over crowded as other places," notes one visitor. Lake Hope State Park Campground, located about 30-40 minutes from Hocking Hills attractions, features cabins with clean facilities and access to hiking trails, fishing spots, and kayak rentals.

Cabin types range from basic rustic structures to more comfortable accommodations with electricity and climate control. The Hocking Hills KOA Holiday offers handicap-accessible cabin rentals with amenities like cable and WiFi. Most cabins in the region are pet-friendly, though specific policies vary by location. Reservations are essential, particularly during summer and fall weekends when the area becomes crowded with visitors exploring the natural attractions. "We stayed in a Sherman cabin; it included two sets of bunk beds, a mini fridge, microwave and a/c. We were glad we stayed in the cabin because it rained heavily while we were there and many sites had standing water," reported one Hocking Hills visitor. KOA cabins feature thoughtful layouts with separate sleeping areas, typically with bunk beds in one room sleeping four people and a larger bed for two in another room.

Most cabin camping rentals provide basic furniture and sleeping surfaces but require guests to bring their own linens, towels, and personal items. Kitchen facilities vary significantly between locations, with some offering only outdoor cooking options due to health code regulations. Camp stores at locations like Hocking Hills State Park and the KOA sell firewood, ice, and basic supplies, though selection and prices vary. Cell service throughout the region can be limited, with Hocking Hills State Park noting "a fleeting one bar of Verizon" in some areas. Visitors planning extended stays should consider bringing groceries and supplies, as the nearest full-service stores may require a drive from more remote cabin locations.

    Tar Hollow State Park Campground

    Memorial Weekend 2020

After being cooped up, we (3 young adults) decided to get out and decided on this campground that was new to all of us. The campground was very low key and made for an easy going weekend! We weren’t too keen on most of the parks amenities, but enjoyed just sitting around the fire the whole time. Pros: -staff was cleaning common areas (bathroom and showers) either once or twice a day -campsite 12 was incredible space and had an added bonus of a deck structure over the creek

Other notes: -WiFi available, but only right by the main office/general store -no service for AT&T or Verizon -Fire tower not accessible -Lake tested high for a bacteria and swimming is not recommended

Corona Virus Notes: -only Ice and Firewood available for purchase at General Store -putt putt, boat and bike rentals, and game box rentals not available -nearby Hocking Hills trails were closed

    Jackson Lake Park

    Campground with Water Park

I stayed at this campground because they hosted a wedding I attended. I chose to stay in a cabin, which was pretty pricy for what it was. for $175, it was a basic cabin with a queen bed and 2 twin bunk-beds, a very small bathroom with a toilet and shower, and a small kitchenette with a microwave, sink, and mini-fridge. The cabin was somewhat dirty - dust on the floor and spider webs in the corner. It had no bed linens, or towels, and the bathroom didn't even have a mirror.

There is a "lake" (more of a large pond) on the property, with fishing, and large inflatables to play on in the summer. There is also a disc golf course. The nearby town Lithopolis is cute, with some local coffee and dining, as well as antique shops.

    Lake Hope State Park Campground

Great Location, Good Vibes, Slightly Slanted Sites

Stayed over Labor Day Weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the site we got for booking only a week in advance! Would stay again!

    - Many sites are quite sloped and slanted, but this cannot be determined by pictures online. With that said, all sites appeared to have a spot for at least 1 tent cleared away and the picnic table and fire ring in a secure location.

    - Most sites only had room for one car parked at the site

    - Clean pit style restrooms! With running water restrooms dispersed through the campground.

    - Lake Hope was a good size for kayaking (and rentals were open and only ~$10 per person per hour for various boating devices).

    - Fishing allowed anywhere!

    - Cool hiking trails throughout to see caves, The Hope Furnace, and water features!

    - Only ~30-40min from all the must see attractions of Hocking Hills and surrounding area!

    - Camp Store with wood, ice, etc.

    Buckeye Lake-Columbus East KOA

    Kabin 7 and Kabin 11

The KOA was what one expects of the KOA lots of features and not very secluded. The Kabins were lovely.

The design is nice as the bunk beds are in their own separate room. This means the back room will sleep four individuals. They also included little tables and benches so you can organize yourself in the room.  The front room has a large bed that sleeps two.  Then outside is the picnic table.  Due to health code rules you have to cook and do food outside of the cabin.

Our first cabin some of the light bulbs were dead and as a result they moved us to another cabin. Problem solved.

The bathrooms were very clean and the folks at the camp store were very helpful. I will say that my friend that took a shower was frustrated as one shower was scalding hot and the other was cold.  The floors were slippery as they didn't have a way to stop the water from going beyond the shower (no rim or lip).  She didn't get to use the Family Shower as you have to get the key from the store.  Shower time was usually before bed time with two little ones as they would get dirty playing during the day.  Since the camp store closes at 8 PM she would just use the standard shower with her kiddos. We thought this was a great feature and would have liked to get a look at the family shower set up.

At the camp store, they would drop off the wood via golf carts as you purchased it.  I was able to buy three bundles for $18.00 as it is cheaper that way.  I also purchased two bags of ice.

The cabin was fun and we were able to keep our trip simple by packing less due to the cabin.  Buckeye Lake State Park is close by and if you don't have a boat they really don't have a lot to offer non-boaters unlike other lake state parks.  We didn't see any trails.  We did go to the "beach" but opted not to swim. Our time was spent at the near by Dawes Arboretum and Newark's Earthworks (mounds).

**Will try to come back and upload more photos and videos later as tonight many of my posts are not fully uploading.

    Paint Creek State Park Campground

    Premium sites are

We paid extra to have a "Premium" site, which meant we got a deck. That deck held our picnic table,  but there was no room to put our camping chairs. And though we were close to the lake, you could not see it through the trees. We could barely get out of our trailer and into the driveway without falling into a ravine. The fire pit had to be put on the back side of our trailer next to the road as that was the only spot it could fit. We were told to check out other sites in case we want to come back. Ha. The staff knew no one who had ever been here would ever take this site! But... we won't need to check out other sites as we'll never come back.

    Pops Place Camping

    Hidden gem in Ohio

I highly recommend pop's place.  I stayed there Aug 2024 and as of that date the rustic tent camping was $20.  This is an ideal base camp for riding your motorcycle on the scenic roads in that area of Ohio such as the triple nickel.  The owners are very nice people and helpful.  The porta john and shower were very clean.  The shower uses an on demand water heater.  The narrow cabin you see in some photos is now a gravel pad for RV type camping with electric.  The wider cabin in the photos is still there, but was currently rented so he couldn't take me on a tour of it.  He took me on a tour of the new cabin he is building and it will be a nice play to stay when he is done.  They sell firewood for $5.  The common grass area has wood lounge chairs, common fire ring, playground,  and cornhole boards.  If you are tent camping and need to charge your phone he has no problem with you using the electric outlet at the RV site if no one is there.  I forgot to suggest to him that maybe add an external electric outlet at the shower house since electric is there for the water heater.  There is a spigot on the outside of the shower house to get drinking water.  There is a basketball backboard near the current cabin if you happen to bring a basketball for your kids to use.  There is good verizon cell service there, I did not expect it because of the location and hills in the area.  I don't hammock camp, but it looked like there were trees far enough apart in the line of pines for hanging 2 hammocks.  One of the photos showed 3 picnic tables for tent campers.  There was only one when I stayed, but I assume it's a temporary or cyclical thing and I was the only tent camper and would have shared it anyway.

Of note for motorcyclists is that the road the campground is on is paved (good riding to the north of it) and the campground drive is decent gravel for street bikes.

Pine Creek Cabins & Camping Resort

    Cabin stay

We stayed in one of the small cabins and loved it! Very clean, with thoughtful amenities. Hot tub on the back porch. This cabin also comes with two horse stalls. Bridle trail access right from campground.

Guide to Rockbridge

Cabin accommodations near Rockbridge, Ohio range from rustic structures with limited amenities to fully furnished rental units within the Hocking Hills region. Located in southeastern Ohio at approximately 850 feet elevation, the area features sandstone cliffs and hemlock-shaded ravines that create distinct microclimates around cabin sites. Winter temperatures can drop below freezing while summer cabin rentals often reach capacity during peak season when temperatures average in the 80s.

What to Do

Hiking to natural features: Multiple trails connect directly from campgrounds to notable attractions. At Top O' The Caves Campground, a connecting trail takes you straight to Ash Cave. "You can walk to ash cave from your campsite! There is a connecting trail right at the front of the campground. It was a fairly simple hike too," notes a visitor who stayed with family.

Lake activities and rentals: Lake Logan provides water recreation options for cabin guests. Campbell Cove campers can enjoy "kayaking on the lake" which one reviewer describes as "amazing." Another Campbell Cove visitor mentions, "You can kayak on the lake and they do have rentals."

Evening entertainment: Night programs offer unique experiences for cabin campers. Hocking Hills Canoe Livery hosts special evening events: "I went on the torch light canoe trip... The basic set-up is a standard canoe with a tiki torch in the back of it. You set off at 7:30-8pm." After the trip, "there is a live band and free s'mores."

What Campers Like

Private woodland settings: Several cabin options provide secluded accommodations away from crowds. At Boulders Edge Cabin and Tipi Retreat, visitors appreciate the privacy and unique lodging. One visitor who stayed in a tipi noted that "the outdoor shower is my favorite part. Short hike to the Rock bridge. Well worth it."

Lakefront cabin locations: Waterfront cabin sites create peaceful settings. At Campbell Cove Camping, "site 61 and the lake view is perfect. Bring your hammock because there are plenty of trees!" Another Campbell Cove visitor who stayed in a rustic cabin mentioned their parents "had an RV site overlooking the lake."

Clean bathroom facilities: Many cabin guests appreciate well-maintained facilities. Hilltop Resorts and Campgrounds earns praise for their "bathroom/shower facility are private individual units and are the cleanest we have ever seen!" according to a family with young children.

What You Should Know

Cabin site conditions vary widely: Some cabin areas have challenging terrain. At Lake Hope State Park Campground, cabin sites can be uneven: "Camp sites are very small and very unlevel, had to raise back of camper and put front about a 1/4" off ground to get close to level. Site around is sloped in all directions."

Cell service limitations: Connectivity varies significantly between cabin locations. At Tar Hollow State Park North Ridge, "there is no cell service. Be sure to give anyone who may need to contact you a heads up." Another visitor notes this can be positive: "There is no cell service. Enjoy the outdoors! You are off the grid!"

Reservation policies: Cancellation terms can be strict for cabin rentals. One visitor to Hocking Hills KOA Holiday reported: "Had reserved two tent sites, had to put down 45$ for each site. On Friday the weather was to be awful. Forecast calling for 3-4" of rain. Flash flood watches for entire area. So being in tents we cancelled our reservations. Campground would not return our 90$ deposit."

Tips for Camping with Families

Cabin layouts for different ages: Some cabins have specific configurations for families. KOA cabins near Rockbridge "offer handicap-accessible cabin rentals" according to prior visitors. A family staying at Hocking Hills KOA Holiday noted, "We are first-time owners of a 29 ft Fifth Wheel and got a pull-through site. It offered little in the way of privacy, which was the only negative about the whole experience."

Kid-specific amenities: Several cabin locations offer activities specifically for children. At Hilltop Resorts, "There is a nice sized sand ground play set with swings and 2 slides, an air pillow (blob) putt putt, a trail to the lake, a dog run, poop pickup stations, an A/C'd game room and very pleasant staff."

Budget cabin alternatives: Prices for cabins vary significantly. Top O' The Caves offers "rustic cabins for those that dont tent camp or have a rv." A visitor who stayed with small children noted, "On this particular trip it was chilly and we were staying with small children so we went the rustic cabin route."

Tips from RVers

Site selection for cabin-equipped RVs: Some RV sites offer better views and privacy than others. At Hocking Hills State Park Campground, "the sites aren't very spacious but there's lots of trees nearby and an easy walk to get to Old Man's Cave. We enjoyed swimming in the pool."

Road conditions: Access roads to some cabin areas require careful driving. At Hocking Hills KOA Holiday, "The little road going up to the campground is VERY bumpy. It's not the campground road, it belongs to the Township, so its completely out of their ability to make improvements... we just drove slow and our truck handled it just fine."

Seasonal considerations: Weather impacts RV camping with cabins. Lake Hope State Park accommodates "hunting parties" during hunting season. One visitor noted: "This is also close enough in proximately to serve as an alternative camping area for visiting Hocking Hills."
