    Hocking River RV Park

Scenic, easy in/out and on the river

Stayed here 4 nights, pull through spots require a little bit of maneuvering with big rig (43’ fifth wheel). There was some mud where camper wheels were situated in the spot (needs material). Fire rings are not near RV but behind across the road on the river. Bath house is just ok - not great, not gross. Close proximity to lots of hiking but Hocking Hills itself has become so crowded… don’t come if you want to get away from people.

    Hocking Hills KOA Holiday

    Great first time KOA experience

We have never stayed at a KOA before and were very happy with this campground. The staff were friendly and professional, the sites were clean, and there were a wide variety of sites to choose from. From primitive tent sites tucked back in the woods to large RV sites with water/sewer/electric/cable hookups. We are first-time owners of a 29 ft Fifth Wheel and got a pull-through site. It offered little in the way of privacy, which was the only negative about the whole experience. Our site included a fire ring and a picnic table, along with all the hook ups. The night we arrived we were too tired to cook so ordered a pizza from the front office and they delivered it to our site. They also deliver wood directly to you. They escort you directly to your site so you don't get lost or go down a one-way road the wrong way. There was a nice little pool, but it wasn't open for the season yet. The shower houses were immaculate. The front office includes a little gift shop, ice cream, and pizza. This campground was also located close (within a few miles) to all the main hiking trails, and about 12 miles from Logan. The little road going up to the campground is VERY bumpy. It's not the campground road, it belongs to the Township, so its completely out of their ability to make improvements. This was only our second time out in our fifth wheel camper so it was a little scary, but we just drove slow and our truck handled it just fine. We will definitely be back to this wonderful campground as we love Hocking Hills.

    Hocking Hills State Park Campground

    Great Ohio State Park Campground

Amazing trails walkable right from the campground. Old mans cave, upper & lower falls. Bathroom was clean. Showers were ok. My site 108 was not deep, but was wide. Great for my 5X9 travel trailer, but probably not good for a big rig. Shaded & right near the shower house was a plus.

    Big Sycamore Family Campground

    Great small family campground

We enjoyed our 3 night stay here! Some sites are full hook up, some sites are electric and water, and some are primitive. The dump station is easily accessible if you need it. 5 acres with everything we could need. The owners were amazing. Very friendly and helpful! They had only owned the campground for 2 weeks and were in the process of making several improvements. The shower house and bathrooms were clean and adequate. There is a small playground for kids. It is pet friendly. There is a nice sized pool for summer (we camped in October so it was closed for the season). Located within a short drive (about 10 miles/15 minutes) from everything Hocking Hills has to offer. There is even a restaurant close by that will deliver to your campsite. Kroger and Walmart are within 5-7 minutes driving for supplies. The only downside is that it is close to a highway so at night you can hear the traffic. This didn’t bother us so much but might be a problem for some.

    Burr Oak Cove Campground

    Nice little campsite

Cool little campground. First come first served with no reservations accepted. The sites are clean with picnic tables and fire rings and can accommodate small RVs. There are a couple of vault style outhouses, dump stations and a couple of water stations as well. No electric or water hookups, though. Came on a Thursday and there were only two sites occupied so it was nice and quiet even though there is a bit of road noise from the nearby roads. There’s also an easy 1 mile trail down to Burr Cove proper. The sites are $15 ($10 in the off season when the water is turned off) and you pay at an honor box at the entrance once you pick your spot.

    Carthage Gap

A real slice of American camping

This is a fantastic camp ground, the owners Chris and Teresa are fantastic people and the grounds are just majestic. Sitting above two fishing lakes, one you can swim in during the summer the campground is peaceful and tranquil and next to some amazing woodland.

The camping ground caters all campers and rv’s and has full sewer hook up and water. Wash houses with showers, toilets and washing machine and dryer is available. You can have firewood delivered daily, you propane refilled and Chris and Teresa are always there to help you. this is on top of the events pavilion where something is always on. A basket ball court and two playgrounds make this ideal for family’s. On season event calendar includes archery clinics and annual hog roast and more.

the grounds are 30 minutes away from the Wayne national forest and Athens and parkersburg. The beautiful Marietta and hocking valley hills sit an hour away. Simply breathtaking

What to do

Paddle the Hocking River: Campers staying at Riversedge Campground can enjoy direct water access for kayaking adventures. "If you decide to rent a kayak they will even drop you off upstream to start your trip," notes Ken P., who appreciated the convenience of on-site watercraft rentals during his stay.

Visit historic Marietta: Located just minutes from Ashland RV Park, Marietta offers walkable downtown attractions. "Very close to the nice little downtown Marietta, Ohio but still very rural location," reports James P., highlighting the convenient proximity to urban amenities while maintaining a countryside atmosphere.

Explore hiking trails: The region offers several notable hiking opportunities near camping areas. "They just purchased 62 acres for hiking across the road," mentions Ken P. about Riversedge Campground, while Darla notes that near Shadow Lake "there are a couple hiking trails nearby (Piatt Park and Raven's Rock) which have incredible rock formations in the gorges."

What campers like

Riverside camping spots: Many campers appreciate waterfront sites. "Our tent was right on the river and Kelli was the best host ever!" shares Eric S. about his experience at Riversedge Campground. The ability to watch morning mist over the water from campsites creates memorable experiences.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Natural settings provide wildlife encounters throughout the region. "We see deer almost every evening," reports Darla about her October stay at Shadow Lake RV Resort, where trails meander through the 100-acre property with several ponds.

Cost-effective overnight options: Budget-conscious travelers appreciate affordable riverside camping. "Full hookup alone is worth more than 25 bucks. Cash or Check only," notes Clean Slate D. about Harris RV Park, highlighting the exceptional value for waterfront RV sites with complete hookups.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Fall foliage transforms the camping experience in this region. "To get here, you must drive through the rolling hills of Southern Ohio, which is absolutely gorgeous in October!" shares Darla about her experience at Shadow Lake RV Resort, though she notes "most of the campers have either gone south, closed up or pulled out for the season" during this time.

Site spacing variations: Some campgrounds offer more privacy than others. "Large sites. Great staff. Absolutely love this place. Slow pace and quiet," reports James P. about Ashland RV Park, contrasting with tighter arrangements at other facilities in the region.

Terrain and leveling needs: Campsite conditions can require additional equipment. "Tight spots, but pretty level," notes Clean Slate D. about Harris RV Park, while Tamara W. mentions at Hocking River RV Park that "there was some mud where camper wheels were situated in the spot (needs material)."

Tips for camping with families

Look for campgrounds with beach access: Water features enhance family experiences. "The tent sites are right next to the water and there is a beach and dock nearby also," mentions Ken P. about Hocking River RV Park, making it ideal for families with children who enjoy swimming.

Consider noise levels from nearby highways: Road noise can affect sleep quality. "It's also right alongside State Route 33, so you hear freeway traffic constantly. Trucks and motorcycles woke me up all night," warns Megan M. about Hocking River RV Park, suggesting families may want sites farther from roadways.

Check for kid-friendly amenities: Not all campgrounds offer recreational facilities. "No playground which made camping with kids very uneventful for them," notes Bryatt S. about one location, recommending families research entertainment options before booking.

Tips from RVers

Site access considerations: Maneuvering larger RVs requires advance planning. "Pull through spots require a little bit of maneuvering with big rig (43' fifth wheel)," advises Tamara W. about Harris RV Park, suggesting RVers assess access routes before arrival.

Weekly and monthly rates: Extended stays offer significant savings. "Weekly and monthly pricing is great too," mentions Aly M. about Blennerhassett RV Park, which particularly benefits travelers using the region as a base for exploring multiple attractions.

Hookup configurations: Electrical service varies between parks. "Electric hookup only," notes Bill V. about Hocking River RV Park, while other facilities offer complete connections. Brad B. adds, "Water filling and black water dump. Electric. Close to river," highlighting the importance of confirming specific utility arrangements before booking.
