    Kiser Lake State Park Campground

    Quiet Park

This park is know for the lake that is kayak and canoe friendly since it doesn’t allow any kind of boat with a motor. It also features a beach , 2 playgrounds and several hiking trails. Just be careful if you hike with dogs since some trails intersect with a nature preserve which doesn’t allow pets.

The campground itself has 20 electric sites , 56 primitive sites and 4 camper cabins. All the electric sites are pull through and all sites have a fire pit but only the electric sites come with picnic tables.

Due to off season and COVID the camp store is closed and there is no camper host or park office staff around.

We did notice lots of downed trees on the poorly marked hiking trails. Some trails just started but no maps were around and no trails were blazed. It was hard to tell where we were headed or how long a trail was. I tried using the new Detour app and it wasn’t very accurate for this park.

We did have good Verizon cell coverage.

    Nice little weekend getaway

Stayed 2 nights here. Had a back-in, water/electric spot that was roomy as we were on an end. Wood deck, picnic table, and fire ring included. Very well kept grounds, friendly staff, and all-around good atmosphere.

Venture Out Resorts Arrowhead Lakes Resort

    Big rigs to tents

We stayed here for free for 10 days as a part of a promotion that came with the purchase of our rig. Not sure about normal pricing though, as this campground is owned by Venture Out Resorts and they are a timeshare company (we had to sit for a hour long "pitch" to get our free days). They have 50amp, full hookup, pull through sites (and we saw 40+ ft rigs there) to tent camping to cabin rentals. The campground was clean (shower houses always looked great) and grounds were maintained. Amenities include an indoor pool, hot tub and sauna (close at 10p), but we did not partake because it was so overridden by children, chlorine, and no open windows - didn't seem worth any effort whatsoever in the July heat. The amenities we did checkout (close nightly at 8p) included their new 18 hole mini golf course, small arcade (4 games and pinball was broken 😢), loaner bikes, and water toys (we liked the paddle bikes). The company recently bought the property, so you can see what they inherited vs what it will probably eventually be like based off their sister properties (they recently added the putt putt and a big jungle gym) so it could evolve more as time passes. Regardless, in its current state as active 30 somethings, we were pretty bored. No hiking, significant highway noise, yes a couple big ponds, but a truck stop and truck storage is behind both - so no views. Most of the campers we saw were elderly or had young kids. I'd say if you fall into a category where you want to sit beside your rig all day or want your kids entertained (playgrounds, kids programming - it was luau week so they had a Moana movie night and other kid activities), go on and book a longer stay. If you're only looking for a spot to stay overnight by the highway, do it! It is simple to pull in and have full hookups to take advantage of but a 10 day stay is too long if you're paying. Other things to know: Walmart, Aldi, Lowes, and several automotive chain stores are at max 5 min away, which made grabbing some needed supplies super easy. That said truck stop above was very convenient to get into to fuel up our rig too. Fun fact: Neil Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta and the Armstrong Air & Space Museum is also a max 5 min drive away if you want to get your inner astronaut fix.

    Van Buren State Park Campground

    Small and peaceful

We stayed one night on our way to IN. We’ve never been here before and wanted to check it off our list. It’s a small campground with one side as equestrian and the other side not. All sites had electric and water, no full hookup. There were only drop toilets and no showers. They were clean but I don’t think I’d want to do more than a weekend there. It had a nice playground for kids and plenty of trails to hike or go horseback riding. They also had a dog park and small wildflower garden. The check in cabin had ice and wood for sale but no store. Our site was really nice. The pads were recently paved and had a huge bumper at the end. The fire ring was nice and the site had plenty of space for tents.

    Indian Lake State Park Campground

    Lots of sites

Our pad was not level front to back so we had to adjust a little bit. The fire ring was nice but our picnic table was beat up. I went to move it and the seat pulled right off. We stayed on a Sunday night so it wasn’t packed. There are a ton of sites. Some had great shade and others didn’t have any at all. The bathrooms were flush toilets and they did have shower houses too. The camp store is really big and it’s right next to their pool. They have a dog park, place to dock your boat and a small beach. I would imagine this would be a pretty busy during the summer.

    Lake Loramie State Park Campground

Perfect retreat for the family or solo adventure

Relax on the waters edge in shear tranquility. Perfect beach for swimming, excellent trails for hiking, and awesome lake to boat. Multiple launch ramps provide ease and convenience. Rent a canoe or kayak and head out for some time alone or with your favorite person. The cabins are heated but pets are not allowed. Campground is huge as are the sites. Some are premium, there’s a few ADA and some lakeside making for a great view to enjoy your morning coffee.

Fun for kids during the day and sage at night.

We have stayed many times. Love being so close to the lake we can fish all the time. The beach is a bit of a walk from the campground but not to far. They offer canoe rentals, and bike rentals. The park also has beautiful cabins on the lake shore.

    Hidden gem

Traveling with a dog is not always easy, but I throughly enjoyed my stay. Will be back again, happy it wasn’t full of people. Wifi strong, Verizon service great, premium electric (I have 30amp and there was a hookup), no water as it’s winter meaning no bathrooms (there is a porterhouse). Clean sites and friendly folks.

Guide to Delphos

Cabins near Delphos, Ohio are situated in the western portion of the state where elevations range from 750-850 feet above sea level. The region experiences all four seasons distinctly, with warm summers averaging 80-85°F and winters that can drop below freezing. Local cabin rentals typically see highest occupancy from May through September when water activities are most accessible on nearby lakes.

What to do

Fishing at multiple spots: The region's lakes offer various fishing opportunities, particularly at Kiser Lake where motors aren't permitted. "The lake was calm and everyone was very respectful of us in our kayaks," notes one visitor to Kiser Lake State Park. The lake is stocked with several fish species and provides a quieter experience than motorized lakes.

Water recreation options: Many cabin locations offer swimming and boating access. At Indian Lake State Park, "there is a camper beach area, swimming pool and boat launch within the campground." The park maintains separate swimming areas including a designated dog beach, making it convenient for families bringing pets.

Local attractions exploration: The region has several historic sites worth visiting. "Neil Armstrong was born in nearby Wapakoneta so there are some sights to see there, and the towns of Celina and one other are cute too," reports one camper. The Armstrong Air & Space Museum is approximately 20 minutes from most cabin rentals in the area.

What campers like

Spacious campsites: Many cabins and campgrounds offer roomy sites with good separation. At Grand Lake St. Marys State Park, campers appreciate that "the campground is quiet; family friendly; no golf carts all over." Another visitor noted the "Large spacious sites with cement or paved spots."

Recreational amenities: On-site facilities enhance the cabin experience at several locations. One visitor at Twin Lakes Park shared that "Playground is great, lots to do, and the fishing and swimming lakes are nice. Caught some decent bass and kids enjoyed all the bluegill fishing."

Clean facilities: While amenity levels vary between rustic and deluxe cabins, many locations maintain high cleanliness standards. A camper at Indian Lake State Park mentioned the campground offers "full power both 30 and 50 amp at almost all site and strong wifi where I was," which is particularly helpful for those needing to stay connected.

What you should know

Seasonal availability differences: Not all cabin rentals operate year-round. Van Buren State Park operates throughout the year, unlike some private rentals that close in late fall. One visitor noted it's "a small campground with one side as equestrian and the other side not. All sites had electric and water, no full hookup."

Shower and restroom limitations: Bathroom facilities vary significantly between locations. At Lake Loramie State Park, "The bathrooms were extremely dirty. It looks like they haven't been renovated since the 80s." Several state parks offer only pit toilets rather than full shower facilities.

Booking considerations: Weekends fill quickly during summer months, particularly at locations with special amenities. Make reservations 2-3 months ahead for summer stays. A visitor to Pleasant View Recreation mentioned, "We had a whole sector the event with water and electric sites," showing how group bookings are accommodated at some locations.

Tips for camping with families

Activity scheduling: Many parks offer structured activities for children on weekends. At Lake Loramie State Park, one camper mentioned, "The kids loved the playground and had fun at the Fun Field Day activities!" These programs typically run from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Playground proximity: When booking cabins with children, consider locations near play areas. "Could sit at our spot and watch our kids at the playground. This particular week there were tons of kids and our kids had a great time," reported one family at Grand Lake St. Marys State Park.

Swimming options: Check water quality reports before planning water activities. A camper at Wapakoneta KOA reported "Swimming pool is clean" while noting they have additional recreation options: "They have a pool, pool table, games for kids and adults."

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: RVers should carefully research specific site dimensions before booking. At Wapakoneta KOA, a visitor noted they "Had a back-in, water/electric spot that was roomy as we were on an end. Wood deck, picnic table, and fire ring included."

Hookup variations: Electric options differ between parks with some offering 30-amp, 50-amp, or both. Van Buren State Park has "electric hookups" but requires using a separate dump station rather than providing full sewer connections at individual sites.

Leveling requirements: Site grading can vary significantly within the same campground. One RVer at Indian Lake State Park mentioned "Our pad was not level front to back so we had to adjust a little bit," suggesting bringing leveling blocks is advisable.
