Bath, North Carolina offers several campground options within a short drive, with Goose Creek State Park Campground serving as one of the main camping areas in the region. The park features both primitive tent sites and a newer RV campground with full hookups, along with recently constructed cabins. Other facilities like Twin Lakes Resort and Tranter's Creek Resort provide additional camping experiences near the Pamlico River and surrounding waterways. Camping styles range from basic tent sites nestled among pine trees to fully-equipped RV pads with electric, water, and sewer connections. The camping landscape includes a mix of state park land and private campgrounds.
Seasonal considerations affect camping experiences in this coastal region, particularly regarding insects and water conditions. Most campgrounds remain open year-round, though bug activity increases significantly during warmer months. The primitive camping area at Goose Creek State Park provides access to the Pamlico River and Goose Creek, with sites 11-14 situated closest to the water. Facilities vary across campgrounds, with primitive sites typically offering composting toilets while developed areas provide shower houses and electric hookups. Cell service can be limited in some camping areas, particularly at Goose Creek State Park. As one camper noted, "You are far enough away from Washington, NC that you don't get great cell coverage so, it is almost like going off the grid."
Waterfront access represents a significant draw for many campers visiting the Bath area. Several visitors highlighted the peaceful atmosphere and water proximity as key benefits, especially at the primitive sites in Goose Creek State Park. The park features multiple trails, some with boardwalks through marsh and swampy areas that showcase local wildlife. Campers frequently mention deer sightings near their sites. The spacing between campsites receives consistent praise, particularly in the primitive camping section where sites are well-separated and private. While the newer RV campground and cabins offer modern amenities, they lack the shade found in the wooded tent camping areas. According to feedback on The Dyrt, "The sites are spacious, well equipped and well spaced (private). There are several water stations and composting toilets."

Great fishing spot we really enjoyed our stay the management team went out of there way to help us even in the late hours as we spur of the moment rented a spot here.
I love this spot. Easily accessible and you basically have your own personal little beach here.
So the spot for the actual coordinates, you will need a 4x4 to get to. I do so it was no problem getting there. The vegetation on the trail is pretty tall so take your time and there are about 5 muddy spots you will go through apparently even when it is dry everywhere else. The “recreation area” is a joke. It’s pretty much completely overgrown except a spot just big enough to drop your boat in. Overall for those of us that like out of the way places it’s pretty good here though. I’m not sure if you can camp in the rec area. I don’t see any signs but there’s a boat ramp here and usually you can’t camp next to those. Oh and my video is of me coming back out of the woods to the rec area. The road getting to there is actually gravel.
Clean and well-maintained. It has a small lake with a swimming beach and some nice walking trails. Great for the crowd that is interested in the more natural style of camping as opposed to places like KOA.
We have been several times last year and once this year. Definitely intend to go back. We love the shade and the lake for swimming and kayaking. Last time we went, the kayaks had been left in the lake and were upside down. After speaking with the owners, they came within an hour or two and use their boat to pull the kayaks and paddle boats back to shore. Love the fact I can do laundry before I leave so I don’t have that to do once I get back home. It is Coin operated. Family oriented and quiet.
This is a great little quiet getaway campground! Peaceful yet close to grocery stores, shopping and the beach! There’s a water hole for swimming and kayaking. Check in is easy and owners live close by and are quick to respond to any issues. This is a plus for us!! Lots of shaded lots too!
It did say that the laundry area was renovated and I was highly disappointed to see that it does not show any signs of remodeling. The shower house is tolerable but also I will NOT be using the area. They are not strict enough about kids and the crap they leave everywhere. There is a house near the property where they keep dogs out in a kennel all day in the summer heat who bark (understandably) all day. That’s not their fault. They’re strict about where you stay long term and won’t let you near the pond which is also underwhelming. The front desk girl is very sweet and welcoming. Would have liked to have the same opportunity to be by the water as everyone else. We travel for work- all stays are long term.
Great little pull off spot. Plenty of room to back in with a fire pit and small clearing. Some passerby’s but still secluded.
We stayed for two nights in the primitive campground. The entire primitive campground was shady and felt ten degrees cooler than the visitors center & RV campground.
We stayed at site 14, the last site in the campground. We had a dock a short walk from our site, the goose creek trail right behind us, and a nice little beach area. The tent pad was a little too small for our tent, but there was plenty of space to set up camp.
The main swimming area of the park was a short drive down the road and a short walk. It was right on the river and perfect for our kiddos.
The proximity to water was awesome and the sunsets were beautiful. Too bad we don't fish, but plenty of places to fish or launch a kayak.
Super easy to pop into town to get anything you might have left at home or if you want to check out a neat historic district with lots to see.
